POWERS has been one of our long time favorites in the funk pop, alt pop, and dance pop scene for a very long time. Any time a new track surfaces from Mike Del Rio and Crista Ru, we revel and rejoice. And really, is there any better way to do so than with a sexy strutting heater like this new jam, Georgie? Its snazzy guitar, Crista’s sultry cooing, and its frisky, torrid beats leave us dancing up a sweat, as the LA duo always does. No joke, if you haven’t experienced POWERS live yet, it’s an energetic and impassioned affair. Chic stylish Georgie will be featured on POWERS’ long awaited debut full length. Strut that stuff and get on down to this saucy, spicy jam.

We can count on POWERS to bring us the best funkastic alt pop tunes, as they’ve been doing now for quite some time. The Los Angeles based duo, consisting of Mike Del Rio and Crista Ru, are back with a new single named Just Kids, on which they go extra summery with pitched vocal chops and playful teasing finger snaps. In fact, they’ve gone a near tropical route on this infectious new song, on which Crista’s cooing is breathy and sexy, light and airy.  Just Kids is also awash in some of the 2000′s bright and gauzy R&B pop. About the song, POWERS commented, “We were both still living in New York at the time, carving out our own existence with each other and the city when the initial seed of the song started. “Just Kids” was partially inspired after reading Patti Smith’s book of the same title and going through our own journey as Patti did in the 70’s. There’s something about undressing someone, figuratively- and in reality, that can feel so playful and eternal. Creativity and connection are what keep us taller children after all and we wanted to write a song about that.” Atmospheric Just Kids is a wondrous anthem that feels like it has the capacity to take us to the ends of the earth. It feels limitless, like life did when we were young and naive, hopeful and tenacious. Just Kids is out now on Republic Records. Keep up with POWERS on their website, here.

Though I’ve already seen Los Angeles duo POWERS many times over these past couple of years including quite recently when the Nylon Tour brought them back to Popscene in San Francisco, I’m still giddy with excitement over the knowledge that I get to see them yet again when Live 105′s BFD hits the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View come June 10th. The Subsonic Tent is going to be set afire and the crowd’s going to be over the moon, like the “Man On The Moon”, when Crista Ru and Mike Del Rio stirs them into a “Dance” frenzy with heavy grooving, “Legendary” moving pop spectaculars like Beat Of My Drum, Sunshine, and their The Knocks collaboration, Classic. Newly revealed treat Closer will surely add plenty more heat to their set despite its mellower demeanor. Closer is a dreamy strumming, saccharine drifting sparkler with a touch more soul and a dab more languor in its handsome strut. You’ll just went to “get closer” to that special someone to the tune of this POWERS, then shimmy the night away with them like it’s senior prom all over again.

If there’s any fast rising indie band who has the ‘power’ to set our souls on fire, it’s Los Angeles’ POWERS. Though I’m supremely gutted that I didn’t get to catch the duo at SXSW last week, I take solace in the fact that I’ll be seeing them soon on the NYLON Music Tour. Crista and Mike follow up on recent bangers Dance and Heavy by shooting us into orbit with Man On The Moon and giving us their most bluesy soulful performance to date. Man On The Moon smolders with embers potent and robust. It slinks with swaggering confidence, making it impossible not to sway in sync to its strapping beats. My own heart beats with excitement for any impending news of POWERS’ forthcoming debut album. The duo will be playing Popscene in San Francisco on April 7th as part of the NYLON tour.

The coming months are going to be incredibly exciting for this POWERS fan. Mike and Crista are building towards the release of their debut album Alpha. They’ll also be making their way back to Popscene in San Francisco on April 7th. And before that, they’ll be at SXSW, where they’ll be playing We Found New Music’s official showcase at the Bungalow on March 17th. Even if I wasn’t helping out Grant Owens with the showcase as I did last year, I’d be there anyway for POWERS and the rest of that evening’s stellar lineup. Find out more about We Found New Music’s showcase, here. Then get ready to shake that rump as POWERS leaves us flushed with sweltering disco pop and dance rock on Heavy. The Los Angeles based duo has seamlessly melded vintage dance with contemporary pop on this steamy grooving, glamorous strutting jam. Heavy is sexy scrumptious to the max.

Los Angeles indie duo POWERS was one of my top bands to watch in 2016. Crista and Mike gave us anthemic earworms like Beat Of My Drum (which I joyfully caught in a television advert for hair products last night) and Sunshine as well as lent their vocals to colossal The Knocks hit, Classic. That crowning status rolls over into 2017 as the charismatic pair make their return with Dance, a furious explosion of spicy glamour that takes us into a whole new level of POWERS appreciation. Dance, which comes with a flashy video, is a dizzy twirling, bombastic strutting, and riotous rocking dance funk spectacular. POWERS’ riveting new single is the definition of carefree fun. You’ll want to shove everything off your desk, get on top of it, and what else, but jiggle away. POWERS’ new single is taken from a debut album named ALPHA, due out in April. I can’t wait to catch the pair when they hit Popscene in San Francisco on April 7th as the last stop of their spring tour.

We already know from Classic how sumptuous music involving both LA’s POWERS and NYC’s The Knocks can be. The two duos meet again on a candy coated, light frisky remix of POWERS’ incandescent Sunshine by The Knocks. There’s no resisting the sun dappled nu-disco charm of this perky hopping treat. My head’s wagging from shoulder to shoulder as I type. If it’s good feels you need, this spinning carousel is your answer. You can also take the remix for a whirl via Soundcloud below.

I just watched The Knocks slay all over again at Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park over the weekend, and they sure took full command of the Twin Peaks stage when they dropped their funky grooving set. But it’s a very different The Knocks we get to experience today, as Brooklyn’s Dulsae gives us an unexpectedly meditative and atmospheric remix of Classic, featuring POWERS. The melodic re-work is a huge surprise and miles away from the original, yet so incredibly moving and beautiful. This laid back and airy Classic is a cosmic transformation, a perfectly balanced acoustic and electronic aria that presents me with my first ever chill step and melodic bass The Knocks experience.
