Fans of Los Angeles’ The Fontaines are holding their breath in anticipation of their darling band’s debut album, expected to arrive last this year. Those fortunate enough to be in Austin for SXSW next month will also get to see the brother-sister duo light it up from the stage. And by light it up, I mean ignite with swaggering charm and steamy heat, like they do on recent single Evaporate. The song’s funky grooving dance rock is a spicy tantalizing affair. Evaporate teases us with frisky bounces and breathy vocals. The Fontaines cheekily sing about “catch and release” on their song. I, for one, don’t want to be released from the clutch of this infectious jam. Evaporate is available from iTunes.

There’s nothing pale at all about August 6th, Pale Rivers’ debut single. In fact, it’s a resounding anthem with a voluminous array of slow building electronic and acoustic elements, all topped off with gravelly moving vocals. This new five piece alt rock and pop band hails from Cork, Ireland, and they’ve spent much of the last year writing and recording with producer Gavin Glass at his Dublin studio alongside mixing engineer Kieran Lynch (U2, R.E.M, Elvis Costello). You can purchase August 6th from iTunes while you decipher what exactly did happen on that fateful August 6th.

The four lads that make up Liverpool band SPINN prove themselves dashingly irresistible on their new single Home. The surfy jangle pop meets sparkling dream pop song thaws the frigid cold of winter and lights the path towards spring’s eternal hopefulness. Day Wave’s bittersweet nostalgia meets The 1975′s earlier, more starry eyed indie pop on this endearingly romantic gem. Home will be out as a single come March 3rd.

San Francisco’s own dream poppers No Vacation recently signed to Topshelf Records. Their very first single on the label is a gem, plus they’ve even promised a mixtape this summer. That timing can’t be more appropriate for such a release, considering the languid cruising, gently drizzling charm of No Vacation’s sound. New single Mind Fields is suffused in warm droopy nostalgia. We’re reminded of long summer days when time itself seems to stop. We lay supine on a beach, daydreaming the hours away. No Vacation’s surf tinged bedroom pop is worn and soothing. It hangs on us with a relaxed fit, like damp morning dew or a light sea mist. One puff of wind or a stubborn ray of sunlight and it’s gone. All that’s left is a memory of its gentle kiss on our skin.

Sometimes, I can’t help but wonder when snail mail will become obsolete. As the world slowly shifts ever closer to a purely digital existence, writing letters by pen and paper inches ever closer to being a lost form of art. In the meantime, a band from Baltimore named Snail Mail is emerging as one to watch, and there seems no sign that they’ll be fading away anytime soon. Last summer, they released their debut EP, Habit, an excellent six track record which singer, guitarist, and driving force behind the band Lindsey Jordan forged from her own bedroom before her bandmates joined in to record the album. Off that EP comes Thinning, a charming chugger that channels early Best Coast and angstful Slothrust. Thinning is warm and sincere, yet distinctly melancholic and nostalgic, too. It comes with a recent music video directed by Snail Mail’s drummer, Shawn Durham. The laid back earnestness of the clip matches that of the song. Debut EP Habit can be streamed in full and purchased from Bandcamp. Perhaps I’ll be lucky enough to catch Snail Mail at SXSW a couple weeks from now.

Come March 10th, Jersey outfit Lunch Ladies will be releasing their debut album, Down on Sunset Strip. You could say I’m really down with the third single they’ve launched off the record. You’re Not There’s languorous dream pop meets leisurely indie rock billows ever so gently, like a mild wistful draft of air. Lunch Ladies serves up a heavy dose of shoegazey reverbs on the charming tune, too. I readily gobble up this delicious meal through my ears. Debut LP Down on Sunset Strip, a seven track affair, will be available via all digital formats. Lunch Ladies promises more singles in the coming weeks.

It’s a satin stirring, bluesy melting electronic affair from Denver as production auteur StéLouse enlists 19 year old singer songwriter Mascolo for his molten vocals on Shivers n Gold. The future soulful, gritty smoldering vibes on his fresh original seem appropriate follow ups to the producer’s exceptional remix of Bryce Fox’s Horns earlier this month. But the velveteen simmering electronica exuding ever so abundantly from Shivers n Gold is even more sleekly chill and molten chic. I find myself assaulted by ‘shivers’ aplenty by this ‘golden’ luscious jam, which comes with a captivating dance video which you can watch below. Download or stream Shivers n Gold via major services and outlets, here.

Lido’s Crazy is pure magnificence and utter perfection, a orchestral trap magnum opus. I’ll never forget how spectacular it was to witness it live from within the elegant walls of San Francisco’s Herbst Theater last year. It was one of 2016′s stand out shows. Truly wondrous Australian producer Alice Wonderland has given that shuddering tour de force a phenomenal remix of her own. The mind blowing expanse of dramatic blaring future bass and slick slicing future trap found on the explosive remix reminds us why Alice Wonderland is one of the most exciting producers from Australia right now. Her Crazy edit can also be streamed at Spotify.

It’s likely many of you have already enjoyed this next behemoth collaboration which surfaced a few days prior, particularly if you’re a fan of the great Zedd, or a devotee of Alessia Cara and her ever authentic & endearing urban pop artistry. For those that haven’t, this is your chance to partake in their colossal song together, Stay. Zedd takes a future pop approach on his infectious new jam. The chill melodic, ethereal bouncing piece is reminiscent of some of The Chainsmokers’ biggest hits. Stay is out now on Interscope.
