DEAD2ME wasn’t what I expected to hear from Robokid when I was first afforded a generous preview of the track earlier this month, but I soon found myself marveling over the Los Angeles producer’s versatile talent and the song’s gripping alt sound. We’re witness to an incredible paradigm shift as Robokid captivates us with a superbly catching tune whose pulsing cadence and gritty vocals evoke The Chainsmokers’ recent music, or twentyone pilots and Blink-182 gone electro. The producer explains:

in this song i was trying 2 capture my feelings when losing touch with friends whether or not it was by choice or beyond control..i hope it makes u feel some type of way.” It’s a rather poignant and familiar topic. Robokid creates an intimate sense of rapport as he takes us on a whirlwind ride with his dashing new alt electro track. Watch the lyric video for DEAD2ME below. The single is available on all major services, here.

April always tends to be a very fine month for live music, partly due to all the acts traveling through California due to Coachella, partly due to the fact that, well, it’s spring! Everyone’s touring! April 25th has been circled a million times on my calendar. Not only do I get to see NoMBe swoon the crowd again with his trailblazing electro-soul at Popscene, but Australian indie electro trio Mansionair will be headlining the sold out San Francisco show, too! The casual music listener probably knows Mansionair for their spectacular collaboration with Odesza and WYNNE, Line Of Sight, but us music heads all know how amazing Mansionair’s music has been over the past few years. Songs like Easier and Speak Easy have melted us time and time again, and now they’ve revealed a new alt electro jam named Violet City. There’s a slinky vibe to the beat scuttling, electro-bass propulsive pop/electro hybrid that evokes the likes of SAFIA, Glass Animals, Wild Beasts, or even Alt-J, but Violet City is undeniably a Mansionair masterpiece with its sleek falsettos and its cinematic, expansive production. Add in a whole lot of whimsical eastern string flair and we have another compelling Mansionair winner. Mansionair hits the road this week with Mikky Ekko and NoMBe for Sirius XM Alt Nation’s Advanced Placement US Tour. Keep up with details on Mansionair’s website, here.

Last month, chameleon production virtuoso TOKiMONSTA shared the music video for her song with Selah Sue, I Wish I Could, not too long after we learned about her battle with medical challenges after being diagnosed with a rare ailment named Moyamoya. We’ve long known how immensely talented the Los Angeles based artist is, even contributing to crowdfunding for her first music video back in the day. Jennifer Lee never fails to defy our expectations with her sonic concoctions and the spectrum of sound she gives us on her variegated releases. I Wish I Could, a smooth and seductive, polished and elegant electro R&B and hip hop chimera has now received a remix treatment from another favorite of ours, alt dance pioneers SOFI TUKKER! The Grammy-nominated pair give the soulful track a fresh influx of dance energy on their brisk bounding, bass rippling remix. There’s no way you can ever listen to anything involving SOFI TUKKER and not want to get up and dance. The edit is a part of TOKiMONSTA’s new talent studded Lune Rouge Remixed record, which can be streamed/downloaded, here. In related news, SOFI TUKKER has also dropped a fresh new track, and as always, they’ve dealt us some incendiary bass and feisty sass on Batshit, which you can stream below. You could say we’re batshit for SOFI TUKKER. After all, we’ve already pre-ordered the duo’s debut album, Treehouse, and you can do so too, here. It arrives on April 13th, which is next week! YES!

There’s no limit to our love for Captain Kidd, or that’s what we’ve learned over the past two years from the Ohio quartet’s singles. They reinforce our penchant for their pop with recent single LIMIT, a bass pumping house pop jam whose incendiary heat and swaggering beats are like Years and Years with a drizzle of Sofi Tukker’s torrid groove. Desire fueled LIMIT is one to take into the late hours of the night, when you can dance without abandon in the embrace of dark shadows. Re-visit some of Captain Kidd’s prior singles on Soundcloud, here.

Aikonawena (“Eye-konna-where-nah”) seems quite a mouthful to say, but there’s no way you’re going to forget that name once you’ve heard this brother/sister duo from Bondi Beach in Australia lay down their rich thrumming beats and slick indie electronica on new single Guard Down. Get ready for a euphoric sonic assault as Aikonawena sweeps us off our feet with their foxy indie dance jam, a wildly vibrant and contagious affair which can also be streamed via Spotify, here. You can check out some of Aikonawena’s prior soulful burning electronic releases on Soundcloud, here. I’m hoping to learn much more about the band in the coming months.

It’s always a ginormous deal when Grammy-nominated alt dance duo SOFI TUKKER releases new music, but news of a debut full length? That’s bigger than big, and nothing short of monumental! Think about it for a moment…. a full length album, bursting at the seams with Sophie and Tucker’s incendiary bangers and fierce burning, sultry prowling songs. Treehouse can’t come any sooner, even April 13th still feels like an excruciating long wait. In the meantime, SOFI TUKKER fires up our day with a brand new track from the album, one which they first performed on Conan just last week. Get ready to strut your heart out to Baby I’m A Queen, rife with raucous guitars and anthemic lyricism. Just like many of SOFI TUKKER’s other songs, this is a full-blown hands in the air, make YOU feel like royalty sort of glamorous and fierce Brazilian house meets brassy dance pop dazzler. The song was written about embracing tumultuousness and vulnerability. “Just because you are vulnerable, doesn’t mean you have to let yourself be belittled or infantilized (why is "baby” the default nickname?)“ the band says of the song. "We are strong and empowered because we cry, because we desire, and because of what is chaotic about us. This song is about standing up as strong and powerful, because of that courage to share ourselves. It’s about being both a baby and a queen at the same time.” Pre-order Treehouse, here, which SOFI TUKKER explains is about the childhood spirit of play. The ground-breaking dance pioneers will be kicking off their Treehouse World Tour in D.C. on April 18th, with a stop in Oakland at the Fox on May 18th. Find out more about the tour, here.

A “confidence man” by traditional definition, is a con man who’ll likely bilk you out of your money or trick you in some way. But as we’ve learned already from last year’s Better Sit Down Boy, this Confidence Man isn’t here to deceive us but to thrill us with the Melbourne band’s indie dance and dance rock music. They make a resounding and ‘confident’ splash as they bring us cheeky Don’t You Know I’m In A Band, alongside news of their debut album Confident Music For Confident People, which will arrive April 13th on Heavenly Recordings. So go ahead, strut your stuff, and get down and dirty to their spacey synths and cowbells embellished groover, which sits somewhere between recent faves like SOFI TUKKER and NVDES. Confidence Man will be playing a series of shows back home in Australia this May, ticket info can be found, here. Stream/purchase Don’t You Know I’m In A Band, here.

Electronic outfit Park Hotel is at it again. They’ve ignited a solo dance frenzy in my room with their steamy dance rock and disco with Good People Bad Dreams, a high voltage extravaganza that evokes legends like Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax, The Rapture, and Friendly Fires. Sure, good people do have bad dreams very often, but this is more like a fevered dream of a tune, a deliriously whirling, flashy kicking extravaganza. The track was chosen as last month’s Kitsuné Hot Stream, and deservedly so. Grab the torrid blazing banger, here.

I knew some great new Albert Hammond Jr. music was coming our way when I caught a show announcement from the garage rock artist most well known for his role in The Strokes. New solo album Francis Trouble arrives via Red Bull Records on March 9th, and new single Muted Beatings is a jaunty rocking thriller that feels like it’s part The Strokes, part Spoon. There’s nothing “muted” here, it’s full of energy and wonderfully hooking. Albert Hammond Jr.’s fourth solo album explores a deeply personal topic – the stillborn death of his twin brother, Francis, and the lingering effects it had on his life and music. Muted Beatings is available from iTunes, here.

KUNZITE sure isn’t losing any time in unleashing their music upon us, even though the fascinating new project just made their debut with MONKS a few short weeks ago. And we’re not for complaining at all. Not only are they back with a new single, but the duo, whose ranks include Ratatat’s Mike Stroud and White Flight’s Justin Augustin, have already announced a debut album, too! Birds Don’t Fly is set for release on March 2nd. And the hotly tipped pair regales us with more of their “multidimensional sound stream broadcasting from the inner depths of Earth, while simultaneously emanating from the heart of the Milk Way Galaxy” with VAPORS and its music video. KUNZITE’s sound is not easy to typecast. In fact, it subverts expectations with its spacey pop and dance ready groove. If VAPORS really were a sound stream from space, it’s a swift reminder that space itself is shackled to time… This song seems to defy delineations of eons and epochs. Funk guitars, behemoth pop hooks, and psychedelic flourishes abound on the flashy alt electronic jam. A free download of VAPORS is available from KUNZITE’s website, here
