As often happens to me, it’s finally FRIDAY and I’m already pooped after a jam packed week of shows, work, and stuff. Swedish pop duo Icona Pop’s brand new banging electropop song Girlfriend is perfect for that extra TGIF oomph that I need. It’s bright, cheerful, and fun, as always. Well, not always “bright”. I extra dig it when Icona Pop throws a bit of darkness into videos and tunes, ie. Nights Like This. Icona Pop is set to headline tour soon with K.flay and Sirah. I’d hit up the SF show if I’m not going to be at Burning Man that very weekend. Doh! Icona Pop has been loads of fun to catch live. They’re awesome and super sweet in person!

Oh boy. Y’all probably think I purposefully post an endless array of music out of the UK. I really don’t mean to do it. It just so happens there’s endless great music coming out of there these days. Well, boys and girls, here’s some more! Fyfe is a young musician out of London, previously known as David’s Lyre, real name Paul Dixon. His latest song is the synthy burner Conversations. It comes on the heels of several other stand out, grandiose tunes off his Solace EP in the past few months, which I’ll eagerly share with you below. Conversations is a brand new track not from that EP. I love his dramatic production on these tracks. I’m guessing he has a debut album in the works?

Sweet. Manchester act No Ceremony did a remix for their fellow Manchester buddies The 1975 and made this sick electric version of their song The City. The 1975 are another band that I’m greatly looking forward to catching live come July, I really adore so many of their tunes. They have an EP out right now titled IV and a self titled debut album is in the works for September. If ya haven’t heard the original edit of The City yet, listen below. I’m pretty sure I shared it before. I know I’ve shared several of The 1975’s other synthy alt rock/pop tunes. So good.

As for No Ceremony, it’s about time I got around to posting a few of their good songs. I’ve only had them as part of mixtape shares on here previously. FEELSOLOW is an excellent track that starts out very moody dark wave-ish before it satisfyingly explodes with synthy energy. HurtLove is also a gorgeous synthpop song. Heartbreaker starts off almost How To Destroy Angels like with that grating electric synthline, but goes far more into pop territory as the electronic rock song progresses. Yummy. Bands to watch for sure. Wow, this is the second time within a week where stumbling on a good remix lead to a mega post about both bands involved.

OFFICIAL VID: The Wytches – Beehive Queen

May 31, 2013

UK rockers The Wytches dropped a video for their surf doomy noise rock single Beehive Queen. As expected, they seem to be creating some ripples with thier music these weeks. While Beehive Queen is a lo-fi garage sounding track with an almost Jack White-ish punk bluesy flavor, their other work I’ve featured previously reminded me greatly of some of Bright Eyes’ work as well as other alt bands, ie. Ludo. I’ll share the audio for moody, raw Crying Clown again below the Beehive Queen clip.

Laura Welsh is yet another new electronic R&B/pop artist to emerge from across the pond with a great sound. Her new song Cold Front is produced by none other than Robin Hannibal of Rhye. It’s an excellent new single that will drop on July 15. There sure is a strong wave of these kind of artists from the UK as of late. Laura Welsh previously worked with Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) on the excellent, beautiful song Unravel. Listen to that one below.

Another new Cansei de ser Sexy tune

We heard lead single Hangover off Portuguese band CSS’ new album Planta, out on June 11, and it was a fun, catchy, bust out the drinks ready tune. However, I’m digging this new preview off Planta a TON more. Into The Sun is a more dialed down, synthy, new wavey one with a chanty Lovefoxxx delivering some infectious lines. It’s a fantastic jam and suddenly, I’m looking forward to Planta a whole lot more.
