Less than a week ago, Wingtip was slaying the Subsonic Tent at Live 105′s summer festival BFD with the San Francisco born Brooklyn producer’s rapturous house and future beats emulsions. I watched in joy as the crowd danced to their hearts’ content, and I’m brought right back to that euphoric moment by his latest track, Walls, featuring dulcet vocals by Delacey. There’s no better pick me up than Wingtip’s Walls, a crystalline glowing, warm lifting gem which Wingtip describes as really special for him. It was the first time he sat down to write to guitar without any backing track, and it came together smoothly and swiftly. Wingtip has a spectacular summer ahead of him. You can catch him at a long list of major festival appearances, including Splash House, Electric Forest, Lollapalooza, Electric Zoo, Life Is Beautiful, and much, much more.

We’re totally psyched that we’re get to catch HIGHSOCIETY at LIVE 105′s BFD this Saturday at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. The festival is a tradition of sorts for me, and I can only imagine how lit it’s going to be when the San Francisco producer unleashes his high voltage music on the crowd. He stokes the flames of our excitement with a fresh remix of HONORS’ cinematic sprawling debut single, Over. The Toronto project’s synth smoldering alt/electro R&B gets a wicked future trap and laser etched dubstep makeover in HIGHSOCIETY’s dexterous hands. The whirlwind edit is explodes with oscillating synths and precipitous drops. Snag the grand and exultant thriller for free, here.

WATERS’ new track is named ‘You Don’t Know What You Want’, but the thing is, I know exactly what I want. I want that new album ‘Something More!’, and I want it now! Unfortunately, I still have a few days to wait as the California five piece won’t be releasing their third record on Vagrant/BMG until Friday, May 19th, but I confess I’ll be very much content in the meantime listening to this hearty chugging cut. Lead singer and SF native Van Pierszalowski explains of the song: “’You Don’t Know What You Want’ is a mashup of various flashes of conflict and disagreement I’ve had in relationships in between long stretches of highway and days spent hanging out at the Subway on Kodiak Island in Alaska. There have been so many times in my life where I have literally no idea what is going on in my partner’s head and I wanted to make it all into a fun pop song so I could deal.” Soon after ‘Something More!’ arrives, I’ll get to see WATERS at Live 105′s BFD at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. June 10th can’t come any sooner, after May 19th comes first, of course.

Though I’ve already seen Los Angeles duo POWERS many times over these past couple of years including quite recently when the Nylon Tour brought them back to Popscene in San Francisco, I’m still giddy with excitement over the knowledge that I get to see them yet again when Live 105′s BFD hits the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View come June 10th. The Subsonic Tent is going to be set afire and the crowd’s going to be over the moon, like the “Man On The Moon”, when Crista Ru and Mike Del Rio stirs them into a “Dance” frenzy with heavy grooving, “Legendary” moving pop spectaculars like Beat Of My Drum, Sunshine, and their The Knocks collaboration, Classic. Newly revealed treat Closer will surely add plenty more heat to their set despite its mellower demeanor. Closer is a dreamy strumming, saccharine drifting sparkler with a touch more soul and a dab more languor in its handsome strut. You’ll just went to “get closer” to that special someone to the tune of this POWERS, then shimmy the night away with them like it’s senior prom all over again.

California went through quite a lot climate wise in the past few years. First, we had that nasty drought. Then, we had a spectacularly stormy season that even drove dams to near failure and left sections of the Pacific Coast Highway completely collapsed. For the most part, I think we’re done with rain for now. But we can make room for one more ‘raindrop’, courtesy of (and opportunely named) Hot Flash Heat Wave, especially since their latest song is such a chugging charmer of a surf rock jam. The San Francisco garage rockers, who I’m more than excited to see play the local stage at Live 105′s BFD festival come June, are quickly becoming one of my favorite Bay Area bands with their scuzzy hooks and confident riffs. They get some mega brownie points for reminding me of one of my all time favorite bands, the Pixies, with new song Raindrop, too. Sunlit twangs and saccharine 60′s feels make Raindrops an irresistible preview off Hot Flash Heat Waves’ sophomore album Soaked, due out June 2nd on OIM. Pre-order from Bandcamp, here.

Last year, Silversun Pickups dropped their fourth full length, and Better Nature, despite my love of their in between albums, is probably my second favorite SSPU release since debut album Carnavas. I’ve loved the Los Angeles alt rock band for a full decade now, and found myself particularly elated by album track Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance), a wonderfully catchy and lushly wistful anthem which seems to channel hints of Jimmy Eat World and Motion City Soundtrack in its lulling melodies and nostalgic sentiment. SSPU unleashed a very pink and shimmery music video treat for Circadian Rhythm today. On top of having a new video out for the song, the band has also been announced as part of the lineup for Live 105′s BFD this June at the Shoreline. Though I’ve seen SSPU plenty times over, even meeting them once at Outside Lands Music Festival many suns ago, I’m more than excited to see them once again. They are, after all, one of my favorite bands.

Not too sure what’s going on with these song titles with 3 letter acronym names (reference previous Anna Lunoe post), but TTU, or Too Turnt Up, is so satisfyingly filthy, Flosstradamus can name it anything they please, and it would still be rad. The duo collaborated wdith Waka Flocka Flame on the massive track, and blasting it brings me back to BFD 2014 two Sundays ago, when Flosstradamus murdered the steamy Subsonic tent to close out the fest. It was insane, to say the least.

OFFICIAL VID: WATERS – Got To My Head

April 29, 2014

Sure, I’ve been professing my love for San Francisco’s WATERS for awhile now, particularly their brilliant single Got To My Head, but I can’t risk you missing out on the rising act and this amazing tune. Got To My Head received the music video treatment today, so get ready for another dose of the infectious, stomping music. I had the pleasure of catching WATERS play at Brick and Mortar back in February for Noise Pop Fest, and they killed it. High energy, loads of fun, and endless rambunctious anthems enveloped me with warm, fuzzy feels. If you dig Grouplove, there’s no doubt you’ll love these guys. They’ll be playing the local band stage at BFD 2014, and I’m excited to catch their set again.
