Kim Petras made a huge impression on us when we caught an incredible set by her at We Found New Music and Peppermint Club’s official SXSW showcase back in March. We came away from it convinced she’s already a star, and our brief encounter with her afterwards proved how infinitely sweet a soul she is, too. The Los Angeles pop artist released a wildly infectious, saccharine thrumming song named Heart To Break earlier this year, a lush shimmering pop confessional that we’re head over heels for. And now, a new music video has surfaced for Heart To Break. The delectable pop fantasy sees Kim re-imagined as a modern day Disney princess finding her dream man. It comes as no surprise that Heart To Break has already garnered over 5 million Spotify streams and received praise across the board, even from MTV’s TRL. Kim will be performing at the 2018 LA Pride Festival on June 9th, where she’ll be joining the likes of Kehlani, Tove Lo, Eve, Natalia Jimenez, Icona Pop, and Keri Hilson for one of the most diverse lineups in the festival’s history. Heart To Break is out, here.

Though we’re still kinda crushed that Mikky Ekko ended up pulling out of SXSW (we were ready to write about him for the Official SXSW Bloggers Guide, too), we’re immensely grateful we were one of the first to catch his new music on tour at Popscene earlier this year. The Grammy-nominated Nashville based artist, most well known for having worked with Rihanna on Stay, continues to release said new material by blessing us with his infectious indie pop on What It’s Like Now, a vivacious thrumming, beat pumping anthem off his sophomore ealbum FAME, set for release on Interscope / Polydor this summer. What’s It Like Now is without a doubt one of his danciest tracks to date, and dance we shall. With it, Mikky Ekko continues to showcase his new more indie and alt leaning sound, which we’re loving very much. He’ll be performing in London, Paris, Berlin, and Hamburg next month. Those stateside can catch him on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation Advanced Placement Tour that just kicked off today.

Birocratic is a Brooklyn producer and multi-instrumentalist whose real name is Brandon Rowan, and he’s already established himself a force in the scene these past few years thanks to a slew of original productions and remixes. The 24 year old artist has even been featured in videos from Buzzfeed and YouTube vlogger Casey Neistat, as well as supported artists like MNDSGN and Grammy nominee StarRo live. He kicks off 2018 with a groovy homage to 90′s house and 80′s funk named, fittingly, Extra Fresh. The luscious track even comes accompanied by a cheeky “infomercial” video for, what else, but minty mouth wash. Get down to Birocratic’s robust basslines on his chill disco and glam house jam. Birocratic is also known for his brilliant live shows. He dazzles the crowd with his instrumental skills on bass guitar, keyboards, finger-drumming, and more, allowing him to bring his experimental jazz, hip hop, and house records to life in real time. Download/stream Extra Fresh, here.

We’ve been fans of Swedish electropop artist Karin Park for years, and it boggles my mind how we missed out on the news of a project she’s now involved in, named Pandora Drive. Fortunately, we’ve stumbled across last month’s lyric video for the trio’s single Albino Heart, a slick pulsing, stringy lush, dark and cinematic combination of icy ethereal synthpop, deep house, and gothy electropop. The atmospheric song is just what tickles our fancy, a dusky engrossing anthem and an undeniably catchy introduction to this new iteration of Pandora Drive with Karin Park. Albino Heart is available from iTunes, here.

The first thing I noticed when I waded into this new acoustic video from Efraim Leo was his melting voice. It’s dulcet and soothing, soulful and emotive, like a cross between James Bay and Ed Sheeran. Then I noticed that his tender strumming first original, You Got Me Wrong, was tugging hard on my heartstrings, too. The dreamy singer songwriter hails from Stockholm, Sweden, and he’s obviously poised to make an imprint with his dashing looks and affecting vocals. Head to his Soundcloud to let him liquefy your heart some more with a cover of Shawn Mendes’ Treat You Better as well a handful of other tracks.

Once again, a new stripped down acoustic video for an incredible song has keyed us into an amazing rising artist and her music. New York’s Aisha Badru is an urban folk singer songwriter who delivers soul stirring music with a supple & emotive voice. You can watch her perform her recent single Bridges in an intimate setting below, but make sure you watch the video for the original above. Bridges is lifted from Aisha Badru’s debut album, due out this year. It follows on the heels of her 2015 Vacancy EP, which garnered a lot of attention from the advertisement world when her hushed single Waiting Around was utilized for a viral Volkswagen add in South Africa. That buzz continues to grow with delicate and understated Bridges, a tenderly stirring gem that feels like early, dusky BROODS gone ambient, atmospheric Daughter. Bridges is available, here.

It’s incredible how versatile and talented young actors and actresses are these days, particularly ones from hit Netflix shows. Aside from almost every major cast member involved in Stranger Things, Dylan Minette, the dreamy actor who plays Clay in 13 Reasons Why, is also a flourishing musician with his own band. In case you missed out on our previous feature on Wallows, let me fill you in on this three piece from Los Angeles. Their dusty crunching, guitar embroiled music is top level stuff, and Dylan’s voice is fantastic. He reminds me of Interpol and the Strokes on Pulling Leaves Off Trees, for which Wallows just released this live studio clip. It’s one of the alt rock band’s latest singles and a rollicking good time. Download and stream the knotted rocker, here. For another fine recent single from Wallows, jam out to Uncomfortable below, too. You can stream Pulling Leaves Off Trees off Soundcloud, here. Perhaps Wallows can soundtrack season 2 of 13 Reasons Why themselves. The band kicks off their North American tour on January 24th right here in San Francisco with a show at the Great American Music Hall.

JATA, the solo project helmed by Berlin based singer songwiter and producer Jacob Vetter, has a knack for seducing our hearts with his sleek curling, smooth ravishing brand of retro-futuristic electronic R&B. He recently released a beats lavish, synth entwining single named Mephisto, for which he’s also released an intimately riveting live video which you can view below. Mephisto is lifted from JATA’s debut album Mexico, which can be streamed/purchased, here.

Exquisite. That sums up this new acoustic video to the utmost, and it’s placed Welsh pop duo Dusky Grey smack in the center of our radar, too. Turns out, we’ve been missing out on some deeply affecting pop. Told Me is the duo’s debut single, and it’s already made quite a mark in the scene with millions and millions of streams over the past year. Gethin Williams and Catrin Hopkins offer up a stripped down rendition of the debut in their new video, and we watch, transfixed, as the pair belts out the acoustic piano ballad with much immaculate perfection and emotive force. Stream the original below and revel in its crunchy strolling cadence and laid back yet wistful charm. You can also stream/download the acoustic version of Told Me, here.

Man Without Country is Welsh vocalist and musician Ryan James’ most distinguished musical project, but he hasn’t released new material under that name in two years. He breaks his silence by announcing a new double A-side, Lion Mind / Jaws of Life. Lion Mind is a pensive indie electronic & alt pop drifter featuring chiffon vocals by Finnish singer songwriter SANSA. Its hypnotic beats, atmospheric synths, and silky swelling aesthetic create an ever enthralling, deeply introspective experience. You can watch a kaleidoscopic visualizer for Lion Mind below. The new double A-sided release, which shows two contrasting sides to James’ artistic vision, is now available exclusively via Music Glue. The release will also be available to listen on all streaming services, and to purchase from all digital retailers from September 18th.
