A band like Freedom Fry releasing a song named Cold Blooded Heart almost seems ironic, considering how sweetly affable and genuinely down to earth the French-American duo from Los Angeles has proven to be in all our encounters with the pair. But that’s exactly what Bruce Driscoll and Marie Seyrat have named their new single, a dusty rolling gem from their long awaited debut full length, arriving this summer. With it, Freedom Fry takes us to the ruthless Wild West, known for its stoic shootouts and its heart wringing escapades. But we feel cozy and safe, swaddled by the LA-based duo’s twangy strumming, bucolic stirring song. They’ve given us a heartfelt reminder to look to the future after surviving the past. Cold Blooded Heart is that welcome hearth, that dependable log cabin we return to after a long day out in the barren wilderness under a brutal sun. Our hearts may be beaten and mangled, but we’re lifted by Freedom Fry’s harmonious vocals, their beautifully lush strings, and an overwhelming sense of weathered contentment. “Make a fire, put it in your heart, I won’t let you go, I’ll make you whole again,” they coo. Freedom Fry’s debut album Classic drops on June 1st. Re-visit the title track via our feature, here.

Welcome news from Freedom Fry regarding their long awaited debut album Classic is

as good as any other reason to rejoice on this fine afternoon. The record arrives on July 1st, and the Los Angeles based French-American alt-folk duo, whom we’ve been long enamored with, has already shared a first taste off it. Parisian-born Marie Syrat and Michigan-born Bruce Driscoll bring us a warm infectious burst of sun-soaked indie rock and Pacific Coast Highway vibes on the album’s title track, which fuses uptempo rhythms with feel-good melodies. An earthy lush array of brass and strings accompany their endearing song, which comes on the heels of last month’s stellar “#girlpower” cover of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ Man On Fire, featured in a new animated film from Intuit that’s already racked up over 20 million views to date. As always, Freedom Fry is heartwarming and disarming on their verdant and euphonious new offering. We look forward to hearing Freedom Fry’s new song live when we make our way back to Austin for SXSW in a few short weeks. Classic is out now via all major platforms. Keep up with our favorite California indie duo by way of their website, here.

Our week couldn’t have kicked off in any better way than with some more than welcome news from French-American indie troubadours Freedom Fry. The Los Angeles based alt-folk duo just announced their long awaited debut album Classic, which will arrive this summer. In celebration of the significant event, one that we’re monumentally excited over, Parisian-born Marie Seyrat and Michigan native Bruce Driscoll have shared a new cover version of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ Girl On Fire. Dubbed a “#girlpower” adaptation of the song, Freedom Fry’s dusty strumming, gently windblown folk rock rendition is warm and euphonious, with dulcet harmonies and a bucolic charm that evokes both Lucius and First Aid Kit. You can also stream the track via Spotify, here.

Late last month, Lost Beach dropped an absolutely charming new tune. We’ve held off on sharing it to coincide our feature with the release of a music video for the song. Today, we finally get to satisfy our hankering to share this sonic and visual package. Lost Beach, as you might recall, is the Los Angeles based solo project of Jonny Perdue, who also plays in Los Angeles based indie band Freedom Fry. He follows up on his compelling debut releases from earlier this year with Classless Man, a dusty chugging, scruffy lilting indie rock jam that vividly evokes open highways, curling waves, and plenty of sunshine. Classless Man brings to mind early The Strokes with a bit of Cold War Kids, all injected with some of Milky Chance’s earthy, upbeat prance. Its music video, which also emits plenty of sandy beach town vibes, was directed by Freedom Fry. You can catch Lost Beach live when he plays the KAABOO Festival in San Diego come September 16th or at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles on September 24th, which happens to be an intimate venue I’m very fond of. Re-visit Lost Beach’s first releases on Soundcloud, here.

It was Freedom Fry’s infectious and disarming folk pop that first enraptured us early in our love affair with the French-American duo’s indie offerings, but it’s their more groovy and psychedelic offerings of late that have amplified our affection and strengthened our devotion to Bruce Driscoll and Marie Seyrat’s ever unpredictable stream of fine music. The pair are preparing to release their Strange Attraction EP this month, and the alt-folk duo have shared a funky swinging, disco pulsating new tune named Party Down alongside a new music video, too. We’re more than ready to party down to the funky strutting, spacey sashaying jam, which reminds me of some of fellow Los Angeles indie partnership POWERS’ earlier singles, with a 70′s alt-folk twist.

“Party Down is a song about getting through the grind of your daily life and wanting to make the good times last longer – having the foresight when you’re in a good moment to realize that once it’s over you’re going to miss it,” Freedom Fry comments. “We were playing with synths as lead elements, which we haven’t done very much as a band. We wanted the beat to feel like a cross between Michael Jackson and the more danceable songs by The Clash. Once that was in place the rest of it just came together.” Once Strange Attraction arrives on September 7th, Freedom Fry will be bringing their ever endearing, always kinetic live show to Los Angeles on September 9th at the Sunstock Solar Music Festival. I don’t find my attraction to French-American indie duo Freedom Fry and their music “strange” at all, unless the plethora of sounds they’ve brought us on their many fine tunes is deemed odd for how wonderfully good they all are. From heartwarming folk pop to groovy disco imbued throwback rock, Freedom Fry has dazzled us to no end with endless charm and their impressive dexterity. Today, the Los Angeles based pair, consisting of Parisian born Marie Seyrat and Michigan native Bruce Driscoll, brings us reason to rejoice in the form of a single named Strange Attraction and the announcement of a new EP. Strange Attraction is in fact the title track fof that EP, which is due to arrive on September 7th. Our excitement grows tenfold as we shuffle our feet ebulliently to Strange Attraction’s funky bassline and popping beats. They’ve seamlessly fused classic roller rink ready 70′s disco with earthy endearing alt-folk on their liberating ode to loving whoever you want.  We revel in a modern “summer of love”, thanks to Freedom Fry. You can start to pre-order the new Strange Attraction EP tomorrow, August 10th, on iTunes and Google Play.

It’s been quite a month for this fan of Los Angeles based French-American indie band Freedom Fry. Not only did they release a fabulous remix pack featuring deluxe talent like SOFI TUKKER, Penguin Prison, and more (which you can stream in full, here), but now Bruce and Marie have revealed a homegrown remix of their infectious gem Brave. This chill summery, earthy prancing dance remix is going to charm the socks right off you, if they don’t fall off while you’re dancing away to the song first. This Brave is an ebullient, heartwarming sunset house remix for fans of Milky Chance and Broken Back, but it also boasts some of SOFI TUKKER’s breezy guitar bounce. You can snag the new remix from iTunes, here.

Los Angeles based French-American indie duo Freedom Fry gave us a series of endearing new tunes earlier this year, which they released on a weekly basis, giving us something fresh to look forward to for quite some time. They now speed up the process with a new set of remixes of said tracks, culminating in the release of a remix EP on Friday. The new adventure began with a most delightful surprise from Grammy nominated duo SOFI TUKKER, who gave Freedom Fry’s Brave a light and airy lift on their dance edit, which you can listen to, here. Penguin Prison is up to bat next, and the producer from New York straight knocks it out of the ballpark with this exuberant bouncing take on Junkie. A plump bassline, luscious guitar licks, and youthful springing beats adorn the indie dance banger. Who knew nu-disco Freedom Fry could be so dashing? If you’re not dancing around the room right now, you’d better have a good excuse.
