High Priestess remix

April 30, 2012

If you’re in the mood for something sweepingly cinematic and beautiful, this is for you. Active Child’s haunting, dreamy High Priestess was given this grand, royal remix by Polaris At Noon. Some dreaminess kicks back in as Pat Grossi’s voice starts up. Loving this remix. It’s brilliant. Seriously. Some people might like it more than the original cut due to the upbeat, uptempo, and uplifting flavor of the remix. I’ll reshare the album cut below for comparison.

OFFICIAL VID: Chiddy Bang – Mind Your Manners feat Icona Pop

April 30, 2012

Oh, wow. I just realized Chiddy Bang has a new song out titled Mind Your Manners, featuring Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop, whom I gladly featured on I Heart Moosiq a number of times. The hip hop track is a play off of Icona Pop’s great song Manners. Here’s the video for Chiddy Bang’s rap version and below it, I’ll share the original Icona Pop song again. Looks like Icona Pop are going to get a ton more attention going forward! Yay!

Best Coast’s Fleetwood Mac Cover

April 28, 2012

YES! I’ve been searching for this ALL day to share. Finally, someone ripped it to youtube! For BBC Radio 1, Best Coast did a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Storms. Bethany Cosentino’s voice fits the song perfectly, and they bring a more lo-fi, laid back sound to the classic. I can’t wait for the new Best Coast album!

Childish Gambino Live at The Switch LA

April 28, 2012

Whooo. I can’t say I’m the biggest Childish Gambino fan, though I’ve heard such great things about him. I haven’t spent too much time on his music. These videos of him performing at a secret show in Los Angeles sure impressed me though, especially the video of Heartbeat. Good stuff!

OFFICIAL VID: Blood Orange – Champagne Coast

April 27, 2012

I recently missed seeing Blood Orange at Popscene in San Francisco due to show conflicts, and still regret it. Hopefully I’ll catch the talented singer composer next time he’s in town. Here’s Dev Hyne’s brand new video for Champagne Coast. It’s an infectious track that brings to mind some of Prince’s old work, whatever it is Prince calls himself now… the purple one, the artist, the sign, whatever.

OFFICIAL VID: The Very Best – Yoshua Alikuti

April 27, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I expected not to enjoy it too much, since the video is supposed to be a play on the video for Lil Wayne’s A Milli. I wasn’t sure what that meant, so I figured the song might be something similar too. Instead, The Very Best’s Yoshua Alikuti is a wonderful world music track filled with African flavor and with amazing footage of Nairobi. I’m totally digging it and loving the chance to see the local footage. I still have Africa on the top of my must visit travel locations. Someday, someday.

School of Seven Bells’ RSD cover

April 27, 2012

For yet another Record Store Day limited exclusive, School of Seven Bells recorded their cover of Siouxsie And The Banshees’ Kiss Them For Me, bringing their dreamy chorale like sounds to the pop classic.

Guess who’s back? The OFFSPRING! Days Go By is the title track off their upcoming 9th album. It’s been a few years of absence for the alt rockers, so it’s nice they’re back. Days Go By is a relatively demure chiller Foo-like track. Here’s to hoping the rest of the album will have some more upbeat, rocking tunes.

Oblivion remix

April 27, 2012

Claire Boucher shared this sweet remix of her incredible song Oblivion. The ubiquitous Grimes song gets an interesting approach on Baardsen’s version. It’s a bit darker and  much heavier. It’s good, but it makes me salivate for the album cut.

SOKO and a “Water Less adventure”

April 27, 2012

SOKO did a lovely rendition of her song How Are You in this video in conjunction with Levi’s, Yours Truly, and the LA Girls Choir. It’s some type of message about living an environmentally friendly lifestyle that Levi’s is promoting, called Water Less. The video was shot in the Mojave Desert at the Deep Creek Hot Springs. It’s very ethereal.
