Just a few short features ago, we were sharing an immense song from Molly Moore entitled Catch and Release and gushing over its jazzy soulful R&B pop. Now, let’s turn to her beau, progressive soul swooner Brandyn Burnette and his new single, out on esteemed French label Kitsuné. The St. Louis transplant leaves our hearts aflutter with his every smooth and buttery vocals on the resplendent future R&B groover, the first track from Brandyn Burnette’s long awaited debut album which reportedly is on its way soon. Lavish flickering, swanky glimmering Layup showcases some of Brandyn’s best vocals yet. Grab the single, here.

Lately, Mura Masa has been surprising us by taking the role of producer behind some of our favorite artists’ new songs. His latest such work sees him crafting an intricate future bass soundscape for long time IHM supported LA artist Michl. Better With You proves to be a divine pairing. Michl’s smooth vocals and expert songwriting melds perfectly with Mura Masa’s sonic wizardry on the immaculate balance between electronica and soulful acoustic pop. The contrast between the song’s gentle, fervent strums and the track’s sharp whizzing, dramatic rolling texture is striking. It’s been a long time coming, but Michl will be releasing a debut album this summer, before he heads out on a new headline tour in the fall.

There’s a whole lot to take away from our week at SXSW this year, and though we expected some of our must-catch artists to be incredible, some of them simply blew our minds with their ridiculously good sets and sensational talent. FINNEAS is one such artist. Though it was a bit out of the way, we made sure to run over to the Central Presbyterian Church on 8th street for his one set of the week, and it was truly worth the effort. Finneas O’Connell, a Los Angeles based actor/musician who’s also siblings with red hot star-on-the-rise Billie Eilish, belted out some incredibly emotional ballads during the acoustic set, stunning us with his powerful and heartfelt vocals. It was magical, to say the least. Later in the week, FINNEAS played guitar during his sister’s sets (he was instrumental in crafting her debut EP, after all), but we’ll never forget the sheer magnetism and moving beauty of his solo acoustic performance, which at times reminded me of my experience watching Damien Rice live in a church, too. You can feel an inkling of that magic in Heaven, FINNEAS’ haunting and affecting new release which premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. Heaven was also instantly added to Spotify’s highly-coveted New Music Friday playlist. Damien Rice meets James Vincent McMorrow on the cathartic hymnal, possibly one of FINNEAS’ most gorgeous releases yet. Sister Billie may be conquering the world with her pop right now, but it’s obvious she’s going to have to share the crowning limelight with FINNEAS and his profoundly moving music.

I know it’s been a moment since we’ve visited with dashing Los Angeles based singer songwriter Lostboycrow, but it’s high time we delve into the melting crooner’s new EP, Traveler: The Third Legend, out now. The release completes his Traveler trilogy, and it’s a potent five track collection of deeply stirring gems. To be honest, we’ve had a very hard time selecting a track to highlight from the EP, but let’s turn our attention to Cindy At The Window, the third track off the release and a molten brooder of an alt/electro R&B meets progressive soul song. The production on the track is on point, scintillating and scalding, while Lostboycrow’s voice and its velvety velour inundates us with the pangs and anguish of lovelorn heartache. You can stream Traveler: The Third Legend in full on Soundcloud, here.

K-pop is rising to great new heights of success here in the U.S. with BTS leading the charge, but let’s not forget how swooning EXO can be, too. Los Angeles based St. Louis progressive soul talent Brandyn Burnette showcases his creamy chops on a demo of EXO’s Been Through, reminding us how much of a heartthrob this hard working, incredibly gifted artist is. Girlfriend and Cosmos & Creature partner Molly Moore lends her co-writing skills and backing vocals to the amazing rendition of Been Through, which is quickly racking up streams since its release earlier today, while Rice N Peas is on impeccable production duty. As it turns out, Brandyn and Molly are responsible for writing Been Through, which EXO picked up and used a translator to modify into his Korean hit. Stream his version via Spotify, here.

We Are: The Guard, a crowd sourced music label for indie/alt pop, released a fine indie Christmas compilation featuring a bevy of artists we’ve been lauding on IHM for a very long time. We’ve already shared DENM’s cover of The Christmas Song, now let’s turn to Los Angeles by way of St. Louis progressive soul artist Brandyn Burnette’s melting rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. In true holiday fashion, we find ourselves swaying in bliss to jazzy horns on the cozy, heartwarming R&B soul cover. Its an intimate ballad on which Brandyn Burnette’s buttery voice nuzzles the heart. Thanksgiving has passed, and jolly ol’ St. Nick is preparing for his epic night out from the North Pole. What else better to get us in the right mood than this cushy tune? I suggest a warm fire and some hot chocolate to go along with the stringy lush lullaby. We Are: The Guard’s Indie Christmas also features tracks by Alxxa, JMR, Janelle Kroll, Kyan Palmer, Micky Blue, Dog Orchestra, and Cappa. Stream/purchase, here.

I don’t know about you, but I’m still glued to Louis Futon’s Stranger Things flip despite the fact that I finished my Stranger Things 2 binge on Netflix ages ago. But lately, I’ve also been swooning endlessly to the producer’s new original with alt/electro R&B faves Opia. As expected, Opia delivers satin smooth crooning on Louis Futon’s Restless Sea, a dark and moody future bass and future soul ballad with funky riffing guitar curls, all suspended in sooty smoldering heat. This ‘sea’ is very much tumultuous, turbulent, and unsettled, as hearts oft tend to be. Download the powerful anthem, here.

X Ambassadors’ massive hit Unsteady still stands as one of their best in my books. It’s such a robust soaring, gut-punching anthem. LA based electronic duo Cosmos & Creature, that divine combination of pop chanteuse Molly Moore and her boyfriend, St. Louis progressive soul sensation Brandyn Burnette, gives us a fascinating and moving new interpretation of Unsteady. This unexpected delight, which the pair had been performing live on tour, amplifies the aching longing found within the original. Molly and Brandyn’s impassioned vocals dance a dance of heart stopping intensity within Cosmos & Creature’s finely nuanced electronic soundscape, complete with seamlessly layered new instrumentals. It’s a far duskier and moodier Unsteady that Cosmos & Creature offers us, and this welcome alternate approach on Unsteady is a free download, here.

If there’s any fast rising indie band who has the ‘power’ to set our souls on fire, it’s Los Angeles’ POWERS. Though I’m supremely gutted that I didn’t get to catch the duo at SXSW last week, I take solace in the fact that I’ll be seeing them soon on the NYLON Music Tour. Crista and Mike follow up on recent bangers Dance and Heavy by shooting us into orbit with Man On The Moon and giving us their most bluesy soulful performance to date. Man On The Moon smolders with embers potent and robust. It slinks with swaggering confidence, making it impossible not to sway in sync to its strapping beats. My own heart beats with excitement for any impending news of POWERS’ forthcoming debut album. The duo will be playing Popscene in San Francisco on April 7th as part of the NYLON tour.

Los Angeles based St. Louis native Brandyn Burnette may very well be the hardest working musician in the business. It feels like he’s always regaling us with rousing music, whether as a solo artist, as a guest vocalist on other projects’ songs, or as Cosmos & Creature with girlfriend and talented songstress herself, Molly Moore. Even though Cosmos & Creature is in the midst of a tour right now alongside IHM praised Minnesota talent Call Me Karizma, Brandyn has found the time to unleash a splendid third solo EP, Feature Films. We’ve already obsessed over several of the songs on the six track EP, but now we also can’t get enough of Fuel. The prolific progressive soul artist effortlessly delivers a creamy swooning, honeyed melting performance on the divine ballad. Fuel’s luxurious soundscape inebriates us with a rich array of elements, from gently rolling percussion, to smooth shivering shakes, to soft pummeling beats. You can also stream the single off Soundcloud below. Brandyn Burnette’s Feature Films EP can be purchased now from iTunes
