New York producer Computer Magic, aka Danielle Johnson, previewed a single on Stereogum today titled A Million Years. It’s an addicting piece of music with spacey pop/italo-disco flair and a popular throwback feel. The track will be released on 7" with another track Everest. I’ll be on the lookout for a preview of the B-side. I looked into Computer Magic and found some more electropop & house goodies below. I like. Very much.

Here’s something you might want to revisit in the midnight hours. St Louis electronic/hip hop producer Phaseone dropped this shadowy, textured track titled Blood Spirit I. The languid track feels like a punch drunk journey through some subdued Tron dreamscapes. It’s off his coming album If I Tell You out on May 7.

New Iron and Wine

January 31, 2013

This has got some awesome swag and it’s brilliant as F. Iron & Wine, aka Samuel Beam, has been in the scene for years, creating amazing folk rock music. This spring, he’ll be releasing yet another full length album. It’ll be titled Ghost On Ghost. Lovers’ Revolution is the lead single off the album. If it’s any sign of what the rest of the album will sound like, Iron & Wine seems to be focusing on a much jazzier sound. It’s an incredibly complex, layered track filled with endless amazing strings, horns and piano. I can’t begin to describe what a work of art it is. Wow. I want to hear this live.

OFFICIAL VID: Ra Ra Riot – Beta Love

January 31, 2013

I have Ra Ra Riot’s new album Beta Love sitting next to me in shrink wrap and can’t wait to finally get around to unwrapping the disc and popping it in. The dance poppy title track from the album is infectious and fun. Its new video brings back footage from the 1980s television show Dance Party. That’s pretty freaking cool. It’s a local San Francisco Bay Area show. I can’t say I really watched it while a child, but I do remember it being on TV.

Tom Odell’s Taylor cover

January 31, 2013

Rising UK singer songwriter Tom Odell visited the BBC Radio studios recently to perform some tunes. In the midst of all that, he performed a cover of Taylor Swift’s ubiquitous single I Knew You Were Trouble, but he made it all his own. The soulful, alluring, emotive, gritty cover is a far cry from the original pop song. It’s no surprise, as Odell has already been impressing countless people (including me) with his skills. I’m catching the guy live tonight in an intimate venue (Popscene in San Francisco at the Rickshaw Stop), and I can’t feel luckier. I’ve been waiting for this show since late last year when I heard he was coming by. On top of that, I get to see In The Valley Below and Sweden’s Urban Cone (also excellent) all in the same night. If you’re in town, you should really stop by. It’ll be worth your time and few buckaroos. Anyway, without further ado, the amazing Swift cover below and Odell’s fantastic Another Love again. This guy has got huge things ahead of him.
