Considering everything that’s happened this year and in particular for me, this past month, I could really use a jaunty pick me up, one still rife with emotion and bursting with sentimentality. Rich Jones, a Chicago artist new on my radar, delivers exactly that on alt pop ballad Everything. This piano driving, soulful clapping song is a whole lot of uptempo infectiousness. Everything is the first single from Rich Jones’ upcoming project VEGAS. You can watch the music video for Everything below. Rich Jones also followed up Everything with another excellent tune named Deja Vu. Stream below the video and marvel at the electro richness of this throbbing sonic adventure, one so very different from Everything.

There’s less than two days left to December and 2016, but it’s still more than enough time to lose your heart to this beautiful new track Opus Orange has just offered up on Soundcloud. The Santa Monica folk band waxes tenderly melancholic on a beautifully stripped down rendition of timeless Counting Crows hit A Long December, a song I’ve loved since 1996. Opus Orange’s poignant acoustic cover is utterly appropriate for the woefully bizarre year we’ve had. It’s been a long December, but we’re about to make it to 2017. “Maybe this year will be better than the last”. Download this unexpected treat from Opus Orange’s bandcamp, here.

If there’s any pop princess who’s cool, it’s Tove Lo, so full of saucy sass and fearless confidence. The Swedish chanteuse has held us under her spell from the very start, and it’s such a delight to see her achieve the level of success we always knew she would. As Tove Lo continues to ride the success of her second album, we turn to Two Friends for an airy lifting re-imagination of hit single Cool Girl. It doesn’t get more cool than this. The LA duo infuse the song with carbonated future bass and warm vibrant strings. There’s no denying the lure of this melodic brisk remix. It’s a whisk of fresh invigoration, so weightless and lithe. Cool Girl has never been more buoyant and comforting, liberating and freeing.

Earlier this year, Los Angeles production talent Elephante dropped a massive remix package for the stellar tunes from his debut EP. The treasure trove of gems opens with a gorgeous remix of his Brandyn Burnette featuring original, Plans, by Callan Alexander, or cln, an Australian producer we’ve been enraptured with here at IHM for a very long time. The end result is nothing short of epic sweeping though subtle drifting. cln’s Plans trickles, a gentle stream of bass trembling beauty. Its melodic waters ripple and furrow, rife with exquisite emotion. Brandyn Burnette’s soulfully aching crooning takes a starring role, but it melds into cln’s soundscape organically, as if one cannot be separated from the other, and each is a continuation of the other. The beautifully rendered remix is a free download, here, while you can purchase the full I Am The Elephante Remixes package from iTunes.

Back home to San Francisco we go for sensational electronic exhilaration as dive head first into Life Hack, a gripping track from HIGHSOCIETY’s scintillating new EP, Controlled Chaos. The producer, who previously gave us some of the year’s most exhilarating remixes (ie. that AWOLNATION Run remix, wow), takes it upon himself to flawlessly fuse a full spectrum of dance genres on his blistering, warbling, and quivering track. Buried in this florid opus and hybridized as one epic saga are trap, breaks, dubstep, electro, future bass, and more. The full synthesis, though jolting and ruthless, is also mellifluous and beautiful. It tinkles with wonder even as it drills under the skin. With a melancholic gaze, Life Hack beckons us to “please stay”. Stay, we gladly shall. Download Life Hack for free, here, and listen to HIGHSOCIETY’s Controlled Chaos EP in full on Soundcloud.

This one’s been a long time coming as my daily share schedule has been majorly derailed by some personal emergencies these past weeks, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let it go, not for the world. When I saw that electro-soul maestros HONNE, the perfect accompaniment to freezing winter days, had been remixed by Vancouver’s Pat Lok, I was not only surprised, but I was gleefully thrilled. Pat Lok gives satin smooth FHKD an elastic jouncing, disco squishing metamorphosis to help us break a sweat on this frigid evening. We’re warm, on a cold, cold night, and we have both HONNE and Pat Lok to thank for it. Too bad I won’t get to dance to the track in person if Pat Lok drops it as SnowGlobe Music Fest in Tahoe later this week, since I’m unable to make it out. Yes, I’m gutted.

Technotronic’s Pump Up The Jam is an undeniable dance classic. It’s been out for a whopping twenty seven years now, as hard as it is to believe, but the moment its unmistakable melody and booming beats hit, an insane urge to “get your booty on the floor” grabs hold of every grain of the body. It’s that timeless hit that prolific producer Luca Lush has turned his attention to for his one of his latest wicked jams, and boy, does he do a high voltage genre mashing turn on it. Get ready for some guttural deep house, whomping trap, wavy electro, and warbling future bass as Luca Lush gets the party started with this magnifique edit. I don’t know about you, but I’m wired. The grandiose remix, a holidays treat from the producer that I can’t get enough of, is a free download, here

Everyone seems to agree that 2016, and for me in particular, December of 2016 has been absolutely horrid. For a moment, let’s “Make Believe” we live in a different world, where things are rosy and perfect. PC Music’s Hannah Diamond shares in our sentiments as she makes believe with us through her yearning new song. Make Believe might be her most dreamy wistful and halcyon twinkling offering to date. It carries plenty of entrancing PC Music shimmers and bops, but they’re laid down gently, with a cotton soft melancholic touch. There’s even a bridge full of guitar notes that sweep us skyward into our magical fantasy world. Too bad we have to come back down from our castles in the sky, but who’s to say we can’t head right back up with another eager listen?

Dark cinematic vibes abound as Niko The Kid’s Wasting My Time greets our ears. The Atlanta by way of Los Angeles based producer soon ignites us swanky smooth house on the bouncy luxuriant jam which features svelte sexy R&B pop vocals by SoCal’s BRAVE. If there’s anything I’m certain of, it’s that this opulent dance track is no waste of time. Future funky jabs and frisky synths add to the song’s vivacious energy. Waste my time any day, Niko The Kid. I more than welcome it. You can download a free extended version of Wasting My Time, here.
