French producer Bolivard has captured the essence of both funk in the jungle on his flashy new banger, Maya Funk. If Caribou, Cut Copy, and Daft Punk teamed up for a monumental jam session, it’d probably result in the glorious, glamorous disco funk and electro house that Bolivard has crafted for us on his sensational new tune. The artist, who’s also taken on the role of graphic designer and illustrator at newly minted label Cookie Records, inspires us to strut our way across the room in bliss to his lush dazzler. Maya Funk is the second single revealed off Cookie Records’ Crispy Groove Compilation. Visit the first single, Patawawa’s Lie, via our recent feature, here. Maya Funk is available, here.

If I were one of the “Bodies In A Room” from the title and lyrics of Colin Magalong’s banging new tune, I’d probably be busting out my best dance moves to its luscious disco groove and rambunctious strutting beats. The up-and-coming Los Angeles musician has delivered sonic gold on the wildly infectious song. Bodies In A Room has been compared to JT meets Daft Punk, a pretty accurate appraisal, if you ask me. It’s also very Bruno Mars meets SOFI TUKKER. Colin’s on a quick trajectory upwards after making his debut just two months ago with well-received Blossom. Keep an eye on this guy as the year continues to progress.

Aww yeah, I knew we’d be in for some new Jungle soon considering the collective’s recent touring activities, and here we are, with not one but two new jams (and videos) from the funk and soul loving Londoners! Happy Man and House In LA are our first new Jungle tunes since the band lit us on fire with their 2014 self-titled debut album. Hopefully, this means their sophomore album is arriving soon, and a new expansive tour is on its way, since I had to miss their stop in San Francisco a few weeks back. Happy Man is classic Jungle, a funky strutting, soulful swaggering affair. It’s lavish and opulent, dashing and suave. House In LA, however, bucks the usual Jungle pizzazz for a heady and sleek, dreamy and warped shimmer, kind of like James Vincent McMorrow gone psychedelic plush whilst enveloped by Radiohead’s orchestral electronica. While Happy Man might be the immediately hooking song out of the two, there’s no doubt House In LA is my favorite and the most brilliant offering. Happy Man and House In LA are both available now from XL Recordings, here and here, respectively.

All the “frills” without the pretentiousness could very well be this duo’s slogan. New York based New Zealand duo Frills leave us swooning with their resplendent psych funk, dance rock, and disco pop on She’s Got Love. It’s the most intoxicating fusion of Foster The People, Portugal. the Man, and MGMT vibes we’ve ever heard, a delectable jam with suave electric guitar riffs and smooth falsettos. For more Frills, including fine gems we’ve featured in the past, visit their Soundcloud, here.

Art-funk minimalism and left field electronic pop fuse on Sink In The Water, an elaborate piece from a London project named Cocoa Futures. The track was recorded at Manchester’s Low Four studios and produced by Brendan Williams (GoGo Penguins, Dutch Uncles), and it marks the first of six new Cocoa Futures tunes to be released this year. Sink In The Water might be our first time encountering the artist, but we’re already hooked on his dexterous songcrafting and slick delivery due to the bedazzling electronica, dance punk, and pop found on Sink In The Water. A touch of Metronomy’s wonkiness, some of Porches dreamy house pop, and a whole lot of zesty swagger make us quick fans of Greg Sanderson, the Scottish born frontman and architect of Cocoa Futures. Sink we do, but then we can’t resist how this invitation to get up and dance. Sink In The Water is available via iTunes, here.

Electronic outfit Park Hotel is at it again. They’ve ignited a solo dance frenzy in my room with their steamy dance rock and disco with Good People Bad Dreams, a high voltage extravaganza that evokes legends like Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, Soulwax, The Rapture, and Friendly Fires. Sure, good people do have bad dreams very often, but this is more like a fevered dream of a tune, a deliriously whirling, flashy kicking extravaganza. The track was chosen as last month’s Kitsuné Hot Stream, and deservedly so. Grab the torrid blazing banger, here.

Who else but Danish production duo THANKS could immediately inspire us to don our dancing shoes and bust out some sweet moves after a long day? The pair are back with their rambunctious dance rock and French house inflected disco house on their frisky bacchanalian banger Sunshine. So go on, let that sunshine into your heart, throw your hands up in the air, and party the night away to this funkalicious groover. It’ll leave you beaming in joy just before you dive back in head first. Sunshine even has some wonderfully acidic moments for a full on dizzying trip of a soiree. It’s like Basement Jaxx meets C2C and Junior Senior. Stream/download the track, here.

Electro-funk legends Chromeo have been teasing us for awhile now regarding their next album, and though we still don’t know exactly when Head Over Heels will be released, at least we now know it’s dropping in spring. Dave 1 and P-Thugg have also unveiled a follow up to lead single Juice, even partnering up with R&B/hip hop luminary The-Dream on Bedroom Calling. Chromeo says they’ve been obsessed with The-Dream since Fast Car from his first album. To them, The-Dream is a modern day funk auteur, like Prince or El Debarge, and their new song pays homage to their favorite work of his. Chromeo also announced their expansive world tour this spring, kicking off in Vancouver on April 3rd with a stop in the bay on April 7th at the Fox Theater. Delicious icing on the cake? Electronic project Phantoms will be traveling with them to Oakland, too. Visit Chromeo’s website, here, for more details. For now, we can dance it up and get on down to funkalicious, groovalicious Bedroom Calling, a snazzy strutting R&B funk swooner.

One of these days, I really must find out what the impetus is behind Penguin Prison’s name. But until then, I’m more than happy to continue joyously waddling around like an awkward penguin to the beats of this NYC synthpop and nu-disco artist’s music. In fact, I just waddled a few rounds around the room to Penguin Prison’s new single, Keep Coming Alive, a funk strutting, glittery whirling dance pop and electro pop banger whose glamour and vivacity are like RAC gone Le Youth. Keep Coming Alive is a coruscant taste from Chris Glover’s new EP Turn It Up, due out February 9th. The sanguine tune sticks to the overarching theme of the EP. It’s about staying hopeful in daunting times.

“On the night of November 8, 2016 I initially wondered how I could even keep being an artist,” Glover reflects on the writing of the track. “It seemed like making art was trivial at that moment.  Upon further reflection I realized that of course the world needs people to make music and film and all kinds of art.  It can get very hard to keep coming alive while it seems like the world is trying to cut you down.  You have to keep reminding yourself every day."

In support of the EP release, Glover will be heading out on the road for a headlining tour kicking off on April 5th in Austin, TX with support from Mating Ritual and Little Monarch. He’ll be hitting the Independent in San Francisco on April 28th. Stream/download Keep Coming Alive, here, and find out more about Penguin Prison’s forthcoming tour, here.

I can’t seem to get enough of this new of Montreal today. It’s oodles of fun and insanely catchy, plus it’s impossible to resist the urge to get up and dance. The Athens, Georgia veterans just announced a new album today named White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood, due out March 9th on Polyvinyl. Paranoiac Intervals/Body Dysmorphia is their first single. It’s a squishy, wonky whirlwind of a dance funk and psych funk spectacular, perfect for dancing up a storm to. I even love the new artwork of Montreal has unveiled for their new album. Pre-order White is Relic/Irrealis Mood, here.
