Betty Who joining Lemaitre on a fresh and funky new tune is a dream come true. We’ve been fans of the Australian pop sensation for a very long time, and we love the new music she’s been releasing now that she’s gone back to an independent career, too. She lends that irresistible voice to Norwegian electronic project Lemaitre’s scintillating new song, Rocket Girl, which was co-written with DagnyWe fly across the universe with them, riding high on Lemaitre’s French house-styled electro, so rife with sumptuous funk guitar and juicy plump synths. Suddenly, I’m imagining Grimes dancing to Rocket Girl alongside Elon Musk as he launches one of his Falcon 9′s. Seems fitting, doesn’t it? Rocket Girl has been tapped as the theme song for X Games Norway, which kicked off yesterday. Lemaitre will be performing at Sasquatch on May 25 and Austin City Limits Festival in October. French producer Bolivard has captured the essence of both funk in the jungle on his flashy new banger, Maya Funk. If Caribou, Cut Copy, and Daft Punk teamed up for a monumental jam session, it’d probably result in the glorious, glamorous disco funk and electro house that Bolivard has crafted for us on his sensational new tune. The artist, who’s also taken on the role of graphic designer and illustrator at newly minted label Cookie Records, inspires us to strut our way across the room in bliss to his lush dazzler. Maya Funk is the second single revealed off Cookie Records’ Crispy Groove Compilation. Visit the first single, Patawawa’s Lie, via our recent feature, here. Maya Funk is available, here.

One of my most epic evenings at SXSW this past March involved Cut Copy. It was the last night of my annual migration to Austin, and I had no idea what to do since most of my music buddies had already left. Serendipity brought me to the band’s headlining set on Rainey Street. I didn’t think I’d be able to get in to the show, since I expected a stupendously long line, but thanks to my music badge, I made it right in and danced to my heart’s content. And now, Cut Copy’s bassist Ben Browning has made a splendorous return with new solo music to keep me moving. We last heard from him two years ago when he dropped exuberant Friends Of Mine. Now he charms us aplenty with a new song appropriately named Sunshine Baby. It’s a golden luscious, sweetly candied, & kaleidoscopic twirling track that melds chromatic italo-wave with glamorous disco funk. Sunshine Baby will be on Ben Browning’s forthcoming sophomore album named Even Though. He says of his next  album, which arrives on June 22nd: “After listening to this record I hope people feel like they’ve gone on a smooth psychedelic journey through a colorful musical world. I wanted to create an album that people would want to play in their homes whilst cooking dinner or getting high and imagine what they’re hearing comes from a land created by Jim Henson – or perhaps they’re listening a lost George Harrison album recorded in the Caribbean and discovered on a VHS tape 30 years later."

If I were one of the “Bodies In A Room” from the title and lyrics of Colin Magalong’s banging new tune, I’d probably be busting out my best dance moves to its luscious disco groove and rambunctious strutting beats. The up-and-coming Los Angeles musician has delivered sonic gold on the wildly infectious song. Bodies In A Room has been compared to JT meets Daft Punk, a pretty accurate appraisal, if you ask me. It’s also very Bruno Mars meets SOFI TUKKER. Colin’s on a quick trajectory upwards after making his debut just two months ago with well-received Blossom. Keep an eye on this guy as the year continues to progress.

Bust out your slickest dancing shoes, because you’re going to want to get down and dirty to the funky synths and sooty smoothness of Superficial, our very first introduction to a young new talent from London named Tommy Down. Take the velveteen electro-soul of HONNE and the jazzy friskiness of Tom Misch, dip them in some of the snappy funk we normally associate with Jai Paul or Gnarls Barkley, and you’ll get a taste of this fine, dapper jam, of which Tommy Down states: “The track tries to act as an analogy. It tries to show how our generation is fully aware of how narcissistic and unhealthy it can be. Yet in spite of knowing this; we don’t seem to care and almost revel in being like this.” Superficial is available from iTunes, here.

If you’re in the mood for some throwback disco pop and lustrous electropop, Make You Happy’s going to do just that. Los Angeles duo Chris Boulous and Ryan George, better known together as BETABLOCK3R, make a ravishing return on their new single. Crisp pumping synths and sleek vocals bring us a welcome dose of nostalgia while inspiring us to get up and dance. The track will be on BETABLOCK3R’s new EP, Monolith. RAC meets Nile Rodgers on the glamorous jam, out now on Apple Music, here.

The other day, I was wondering when we’d hear from Capital Cities again. The Los Angeles based duo will always have a special place in my heart. Their breakout single Safe and Sound will be an endearing favorite for the rest of my life, and I associate it with so many cherished memories of dancing with friends at countless Capital Cities shows in the past. Just as I was wondering if we’d ever hear from the pair again, they unleash their glam disco and synthpop on us again by unveiling new single My Name Is Mars. It’s as groovalicious and funkalicious as we’d expect from the duo, who’ve also enlisted Los Angeles based rapper Sacha for additional classic West Coast vibes on the track. As usually happens, new music comes with new appearances. Capital Cities will be performing at a slew of festivals this summer. Follow them on their website, here, for updates. Perhaps you’ve been jamming out to this snazzy tune for the past two weeks, as we have. If you haven’t, prepare for some funky disco and brassy swagger as Brooklyn’s French Horn Rebellion unites with UK trio Patawawa for a cross-Atlantic soiree on breezy wagging, island jangly Mr. Romantic. Summer comes early as we dance to the agile beats, playful flares, and plucky riffs of this light-hearted and carefree groover. The two projects are heading out on tour together later this month in the UK, with dates in Sheffield, London, and Manchester. Find out more, here.

A few years ago, we knew Spencer Ludwig as the dashing trumpet guy in Capital Cities. Fast forward to today, and the fast rising vocalist/instrumentalist is quickly etching out his own space in the indie scene as a solo artist. Spencer embarks on the next phase of that career with the release of his latest single, Just Wanna Dance, an utterly infectious eruption of disco funk imbued glittery pop. Of course, no Spencer Ludwig track is complete without some jocular trumpet solos to keep us grooving. The only thing left to do is to get up and dance the night away to the fresh and funky treat. The rest of 2018 is going to be massive for Spencer Ludwig. YouTube chose him as one of ten acts for their prestigious “Artists In Residence” program. He kicked off the year opening for The Chainsmokers and Jason Derulo, and he just wrapped up his tour with Betty Who, but he’ll be performing at Bonnaroo and so much more in the coming months, too. Just Wanna Dance is available, here.

Silverchair’s Daniel Johns and Empire of the Sun’s Luke Steele were two very busy music luminaries last week while we were dashing around Austin like crazy. It sure is a nice surprise to come home and find out that the two have formed a new project together named DREAMS, and they’ve already released an explosive first isngle named No One Defeats Us. Dance rock, French house, and synthpop meld together on this invincible anthem. To be honest, it’s an unexpected composite sound since Daniel Johns’ solo music is much more R&B driven these days. No One Defeats Us is more Empire than anything, with an extra funky strut and a whole lot of glamorous twirling. Turns out, Daniel Johns and Luke Steele are long time buddies, so DREAMS is a realization of that long-time friendship.  No One Defeats Us is described as a war cry, or an exorcism of a bad series of events, or a bad dream. DREAMS makes their debut performance at Coachella this April. I can only imagine how glorious it’s going to be. Download/stream No One Defeats Us, here.
