If you recall, Chrome Sparks was once a duo, at least, they were a few years ago, when I first caught them live at Mezzanine in San Francisco. Chrome Sparks is now a solo act. So, what happened to the other guy, you ask? Jesse Brickel, a classically trained percussionist, has been quite busy with his own solo project, named Young Yeller. War is one of his stand out tracks off a self-titled debut album, filled with spacious, echoing pensiveness and intricate, woozy synthpop production. Today, Young Yeller released a video for another track off his LP, the brighter and more dreamy 1st Love, a song filled with such saccharine yearning. Stream the track below, or watch the new video.

A few months ago, I featured a fanastic new duo out of France named My Dear. Their propulsive electropop music was instantaneously catchy and pulsing with sumptuous synths. Today, they’ve unveiled a video for disco flavored, sunshine imbibed song Standing In This Dream. The song is part of a recent 2 track EP, along with previously featured Perfect Connection. They call the EP “an anthem to summer’s eroticism”.

Here’s another one that slipped past me for awhile until I first heard it on Live 105’s Soundcheck recently. Do some of you not so young ‘uns remember a certain emo alt rock band named Good Charlotte? I was pretty huge on some of their music back in my emo days (yes, I was very into that scene for awhile a long time ago). Guess what the Madden brothers have been up to of late? They’ve resurfaced, under the name of, you guessed it, The Madden Brothers. Surprisingly, their new project’s sound is miles away from their old sound, but it’s one I’m enjoying very much. The brothers return with We Are Done, and it’s quite the catchy, soulful affair. There’s a touch of classic Queen hit Under Pressure, paired with a very sunshine doused Fitz and the Tantrum 60’s soul pop sound. The Madden Brothers released a music video to accompany the song, which you can stream below. We Are Done will be on their forthcoming album Greetings From California.

Out of Atlanta comes David Courtright, a talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, who creates music under the moniker Suno Deko. Though I couldn’t find much other recorded material online by the artist online, other than this psych flavored indie rock number Bluets, I did watch some live footage on YouTube, which showcased his one man talent on stage. Bluets, which is off his coming EP Thrown Color, is a gorgeous, drifting piece, reminding me of a blend of Deerhunter and Grizzly Bear. Thrown Color comes out soon on Stratosfear. Suno Deko will also be on tour supporting the likes of Hundred Waters, How TO Dress Well, GEMS, and Mutual Benefit. We’re sure to hear more about him.

Big ups to San Francisco Bay radio station Live 105 and music director Aaron Axelsen for this fantastic find. I first heard Kali, from indie alt rock band Taxes, on Soundcheck last night, and was immediately taken by the sweeping emo charmer. I give it all major bonus points for the fact that the five piece is a local San Francisco band, too! Kali is a lush, cinematic number off Taxes’ forthcoming full length It Never Ends, out in July on Breakup Records.
