Cocaine remixed by Little Dragon

November 30, 2011

cocaine remix

I previously shared the super trippy track Cocaine from Syd da Kid’s side project The Internet. Now there’s a Little Dragon remix, giving it a more even, upbeat and soulful dance sound.

I like! For reference, here’s the original mix of Cocaine again, complete with the really trippy video. I am in no way affiliated nor do I promote the message in the song. 😉

Girl Walk // All Day

November 30, 2011

girl walk all day

This is interesting. There’s a 71 minute film made to the music of Girl Talk, or a “music video of epic proportions”. In particular, the film will be set to his full album All Day. The film is being released in 12 chapters on the New York blog Gothamist starting today and ending in January. The film was funded via Kickstarter, which is pretty cool. I’ve supported several projects on Kickstarter previously. Guess I missed the memo on this one, would’ve been cool to have been involved in some way since I really appreciate both music and dance. And the weirdest thing of all.. I just realized the girl in this film is the SAME DANG FREAKING GIRL in The Good Wife! Who else watches The Good Wife and recognized her? WHAT THE HECK? That girl is the tutor in The Good Wife, and in the TV series, the tutor does crazy, flamboyant dances in public to create sensationalism and art. WHAT THE HECK? She’s real?! What she does is… REAL?! Does she tutor too? 😉 Holy. Crap. Having one of those moments where things connect, things I like… and it feels so dang awesome. How strange! Now I really wish I realized this was on Kickstarter earlier!

Here’s a blurb from their tumblr:

The idea behind Girl Walk // All Day emerged from our desire to expand the boundaries around the idea of the traditional music video, which usually spans the length of a single track. This album-length piece will feature a talented group of dancers across a range of public and private spaces around New York City, turning the city’s sidewalks and obstacles into part of an evolving improvisational dance routine.

Watch chapter 1 below underneath the first video, which is the trailer. Check out the tumblr for Girl Walk // All Day here. Go to their Kickstarter site here.

Met Before

met before

Chairlift has previewed a new track off of upcoming album Something. The new one, titled Met Before, isn’t as infectious as some of their other stuff I’ve listened to so far, but it’s an upbeat, more earnest track.

Of course, I still can’t help liking Amanaemonesia more, video and song, and often find it ninja stealthing its way through my brain again. Here it is to worm through yours…

Woohoo! New video from Yacht today for I Walked Alone, off the great album Shangri-La. Not a lot happens in most of the video, other than eccentric dancing from Jona Bechtolt and Claire L Evans, but as always, they are absolutely captivating. I really enjoyed seeing Yacht live at the Treasure Island Music Festival a short while ago. They are so energetic on stage. Their style and eccentric dancing works wonders live as well. I Walked Alone is a bright track on Shangri-La, and I always love the sound of cowbells. 😉 The guitar solo in here is a nice bonus too.

Acoustic Lykke Li

Lykke Li recorded a gorgeous acoustic video for Youth Knows No Pain. The video is a gothic beauty, and the lo-fi, gritty performance is haunting.

Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Paradisco (w/Beck)

November 30, 2011

gainsbourg and beck

Ah-ha! Here’s a version to share! Been looking for one since yesterday.. awesome new track from Charlotte Gainsbourg titled Paradisco. Best thing? It’s a collaboration with Beck! He wrote and produced Paradisco. Sounds great. Totally reminds me of Phantogram; I can hear Sarah Barthel singing this too. Phantogram should totally do a cover or remix version. They can mold the instrumentals into a slightly more dreamy sound to fit perfectly.

Late Night TV goodies

November 30, 2011

There were some great late night TV goodies again last night. Must share!

First, The Dodos performed Don’t Try and Hide It with Neko Case on Jimmy Fallon.

And next, we have the man, the myth, the legend… Morrissey! On CoCo! Can’t wait to see him live tomorrow night in Oakland. Epic!

The Path of Totality preview

November 30, 2011

path to totality

Korn posted a seven plus minute preview of upcoming dubstep-hard rock album The Path of Totality. From what I’ve seen so far, the response to the new Korn material has been extremely polar. People either hate it with a vengeance or love it. I think the album concept is pretty awesome, keep your minds open. The sounds work very well together, since the dubstep in the tracks is super hard hitting. Hard hitting wobbles plus hard hitting rock is a satisfying matrimony. Korn worked with Skrillex, Noisia, Excision, Downlink and others on the album. Narcissistic Cannibal seems like the best track so far, but I’ll have to pay attention and listen through the full songs a few times to be able to tell. As for Korn trying to say they were dubstep before they were dubstep and all that BS about 140bpm and bros with glowsticks at rock shows…. umm, sorry, your idea of dubstep is obviously wrong. 140bpm has nothing to do with dubstep (it doesn’t have to be fast beats duh) and it’s been around a long time. But just keep putting out interesting new stuff, and all is forgiven. 😉

OFFICIAL VID: Salem – I’m Still in the Night

Off the new EP of the same title, here’s the music video for Salem’s I’m Still in the Night for a good dose of creepiness and haziness. Super trippy cool visuals, eh?
