Scarlet Pleasure has without a doubt been our favorite Danish upstart since the trio first swooned us with their satiny twisting R&B pop on Deja Vu last year. The breakout project has since captured hearts aplenty with their 2017 EP Lagune, and they’ve finally unveiled their first new music of 2018 in slick romping, whimsically capering Mind, which you can stream via its music video above, as well as a sultry simmering jam named Let Go, which can be previewed via Soundcloud below. Mind is a sleek cruising treat that showcases Emil Goll’s silky crooning and the band’s innovative pop, ever so gently checkered with balmy sweltering R&B, funk, and soul. It’s a smooth lurcher of a luscious bop whose video was directed by Scarlet Pleasure themselves, alongside Stine

Thorbøll and DolceRocca. Their new songs are out now on Copenhagen Records.

It really doesn’t get much better than Me & You ◑. I mean, seriously…. HONNE and Tom Misch, on one song together? I think my life is fulfilled now that the two UK projects have united to give us a delectably grooving swathe of velveteen electro-soul and jazzy strings. We celebrated when HONNE returned last month with two new tunes after spending much of the past couple of years working quietly on their next album. And now, this?! My heart can’t take it! HONNE even offers up a fabulous music video to go with the song, featuring a dance troupe in what looks to be South Korea. Dashing Tom Misch turns in molten guitars on the uptempo swooner. HONNE’s next album Love Me/ Love Me Not will be out sometime this summer. Our eyes are peeled for a release date and pre-order details.

Electrified” we are by newcomer Just Loud and his vivacious alt pop debut, which in the short interim it’s been out has already been added to four of the top five radio markets (including our own favorite, San Francisco’s The New Alt 105.3). One listen to the superb single more than demonstrates why. Electrified is immediately infectious, a funk tinged jam that seems to meld Cherub, Foster The People, MGMT, and Passion Pit with a dash of Prince. That might seem like an outlandish combination, but Just Loud executes his energetic burst of jaunty synths and perky strings with slick panache. Just Loud teamed up with producer Dave “Sluggo” Katz (Neon Trees, Katy Perry) on the striking debut, which is out today on Eleven Seven Label Group’s Five Seven imprint. Just Loud ruminates on the parties of days past. The frisky earworm is easily one of this year’s finest debuts. Just Loud is already preparing to release his first EP, entitled Episode I. Betty Who joining Lemaitre on a fresh and funky new tune is a dream come true. We’ve been fans of the Australian pop sensation for a very long time, and we love the new music she’s been releasing now that she’s gone back to an independent career, too. She lends that irresistible voice to Norwegian electronic project Lemaitre’s scintillating new song, Rocket Girl, which was co-written with DagnyWe fly across the universe with them, riding high on Lemaitre’s French house-styled electro, so rife with sumptuous funk guitar and juicy plump synths. Suddenly, I’m imagining Grimes dancing to Rocket Girl alongside Elon Musk as he launches one of his Falcon 9′s. Seems fitting, doesn’t it? Rocket Girl has been tapped as the theme song for X Games Norway, which kicked off yesterday. Lemaitre will be performing at Sasquatch on May 25 and Austin City Limits Festival in October. French producer Bolivard has captured the essence of both funk in the jungle on his flashy new banger, Maya Funk. If Caribou, Cut Copy, and Daft Punk teamed up for a monumental jam session, it’d probably result in the glorious, glamorous disco funk and electro house that Bolivard has crafted for us on his sensational new tune. The artist, who’s also taken on the role of graphic designer and illustrator at newly minted label Cookie Records, inspires us to strut our way across the room in bliss to his lush dazzler. Maya Funk is the second single revealed off Cookie Records’ Crispy Groove Compilation. Visit the first single, Patawawa’s Lie, via our recent feature, here. Maya Funk is available, here.

If I were one of the “Bodies In A Room” from the title and lyrics of Colin Magalong’s banging new tune, I’d probably be busting out my best dance moves to its luscious disco groove and rambunctious strutting beats. The up-and-coming Los Angeles musician has delivered sonic gold on the wildly infectious song. Bodies In A Room has been compared to JT meets Daft Punk, a pretty accurate appraisal, if you ask me. It’s also very Bruno Mars meets SOFI TUKKER. Colin’s on a quick trajectory upwards after making his debut just two months ago with well-received Blossom. Keep an eye on this guy as the year continues to progress.

I’m still kicking myself for not walking up to Christine and the Queens to say hi after I caught her very first performance on North American soil at SXSW a few years ago. She was hanging out by the stage after dazzling us with her dance moves and irresistible persona. I could have, I SHOULD have, gone up and said hello. After all, I’d made it a priority to be there for that performance, after falling in love with the French artist’s imaginative music and forward-thinking, convention-breaking music. She’s since become a global sensation, and now, Christine and the Queens is back with long awaited, highly anticipated new music. Girlfriend, a collaboration with Dâm-Funk, is a slick and chic tribute to G-funk that also feels very 90′s R&B. With her new music, Héloïse Letissier is stepping away from her acclaimed debut album Chaleur Humaine, towards what’s described as a more upbeat, tougher, and more minimalist sound. Girlfriend questions identity and plays with the performance of gender, and how the codes of “masculinity” are disrupted if the player isn’t a man.

“I initially set out to smash against macho culture and macho men,” says Letissier. “I became obsessed with this idea of the macho man, and still being a woman. What does it mean if I’m this figure, and I’m a woman? Does it make me an aberration? Is it joyful?“ The song, too, is overwhelmed with desire. “I felt I had to address female desire and it’s diversity,” she says. “How sometimes it’s blacked out or ignored. It’s still something quite suspicious or slightly dirty. I felt like it was important to be more unapologetic about that. There are hints of nights spent having sex and coming back covered in sweat. Like a male figure, the young hero who has love stories, and comes back in the morning and his friends are like: ‘What happened to you?’ I want to be that.” Listen to the French version of Girlfriend below, entitled Damn, dis-moi. An extensive world tour begins this fall, details can be found, here. Girlfriend is available, here.

Every time a new Maths Time Joy track surfaces, I know we’re in for quite the spectacular sonic experience. The Grammy-nominated UK producer & songwriter always links up with superb vocalists on his singles. Misunderstood is no different. Los Angeles neo-soul songstress Asal Hazel joins the producer on the track, intertwining her chiffon voice with his buttery crooning. Their vocals dance seductively over Maths Time Joy’s gooey ravishing bed of dreamy synths and slow burning funk guitar. Misunderstood is the latest track to be released off Maths Time Joy’s Sunset Motel EP. Stream prior releases on Soundcloud, here.

I rarely touch a video game console these days despite how often I found myself punching away at controls during my youth. As such, I’ve never really played EA Sports’ FIFA releases, though I’ve come to realize that its soundtracks are always in line with my own music tastes. FIFA 2018 World Cup’s trailer features a song that involves two artists we hold dear here at IHM, namely electro-soul trailblazer NoMBe and rising hip hop artist Thutmose, both of whom we were lucky to catch at SXSW earlier this year. The two combine talents to give us a frisky hip hop and funky soul jam named Run Wild, which comes off like a vivaciously cavorting combination of Pharrell, Outkast, and NVDES. You can watch the FIFA video game trailer, here. Run Wild is a whole lot of unbridled fun. It courses with infectious, untamed energy.

Fresh off their collaboration with brassy electro-funk brothers French Horn Rebellion comes new Patawawa jam Lie, a swanky twirling disco banger through and through. Its French house swagger is as infectious as a classic Daft Punk jam, with a whole lot of frisky synths and scalding beats. Patawawa’s put out some fantastic songs in the past, but Lie might be their best yet. It’s a solid gold track that also reminds me of some of my favorite Flight Facilities tracks of yore, due to its rich, sultry vocals and its plucky attitude. LIE is the first song revealed from Cookie Records’ new compilation Crispy Groove, out in early June. Download/stream Patawawa’s swag new tune, here.
