Firstworld, the project of South Florida’s Kris Alvarez, unveiled a music video for his latest single today, welcoming us with the lo-fi video into his world of chillwavey electronica and smoggy bedroom pop. Not Obvious is a hazy swirling song that immediately recalls my love for bands like Neon Indian, Washed Out, and even MGMT’s latest album Little Dark Age. It’s quickly apparent (the opposite of ”not obvious”) I’ve just stumbled upon a favorite new chillwave artist. Follow along with our new discovery on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

It only took a few seconds for me to become a Mazy fan. That’s how gloriously intoxicating the Sydney trio’s spacey psychedelia is on new song Enemies. The band, who just signed to Sweat It Out, have melded Tame impala’s glistering grandeur with Washed Out’s heady chillwave, plus they seem to have sprinkled it all with some of Cults’ charming indie/synthpop, too! Enemies, which arrives with a wonderfully quirky video, is only Mazy’s second single. The band released their debut single Heliar late last year, which is also a must listen gem. Stream the lusciously pulsing indie electro song below. It’s no wonder Mazy has been making waves back at home in Australia with their delicately organic, powerfully electronic music. Enemies is available via major platforms, here.

Los Angeles artist Mikale D’Andrea keeps it simple and to the point on the Soundcloud profile for his new project SAVI MINDS. “I like writing songs about how I feel, and I like using sounds that portray the way I think,” he says and continues: “My goal with SAVI MINDS is to expose the hidden layer of myself that I never want to tell anyone about.” We’re infinitely fortunate we get to witness and partake in what artists reveal of themselves through their music, and we’re more than lucky we get to sway to the gauzy strums and gently spiraling synths found on SAVI MINDS’ first single, Dreaming. Its mellow psych rock and chill shoegaze wallows in a spectrum of despairing emotions, but we drift on the song’s incandescent shimmers and ultraviolet waves in pure, untroubled bliss. SAVI MINDS’ Dreaming can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

All the “frills” without the pretentiousness could very well be this duo’s slogan. New York based New Zealand duo Frills leave us swooning with their resplendent psych funk, dance rock, and disco pop on She’s Got Love. It’s the most intoxicating fusion of Foster The People, Portugal. the Man, and MGMT vibes we’ve ever heard, a delectable jam with suave electric guitar riffs and smooth falsettos. For more Frills, including fine gems we’ve featured in the past, visit their Soundcloud, here.

Phosphorescent sparkling, synth spiraling psychedelia pulls us into the “Deep Blue” that is KYLYPSO’s debut single. The trio from London have made an excellent entrance with the genre defying gem. Hazy electro and glimmering guitar pop meld seamlessly on the track, whose gauzy shimmers and wavy undulations create a mirage-like effect for the ears. For a moment, all is pure and blissful as I drift away to this breezy idyllic, rosy glowing dreamscape. It’s perpetual summer and infinite romance in this Deep Blue world. If only this heaven could last for a lifetime. At least we can pretend it does by hitting that play button again. And again. And again.

Flowers are fragrantly romantic, but with the addition of an extra “s”, they become even more divine and a treat for the ears, as exemplified by HALFNOISE, or Nashville artist (and Paramore drummer) Zac Farro, on his new single. Flowerss is the title track from HALFNOISE’s next EP, due out May 4th via Nashville-collective Congrats!. Farro and his band drench us with glossy, spacey 70s psychedelia on the alt rock jam.

Superorganism’s buzz has reached near deafening levels since we first discovered the art pop and psych pop collective nearly a year ago. We’re super excited to catch the band when we head to Austin for SXSW in a few short weeks. The band will also be hitting the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on March 20th, right after their stint in Texas. Both these appearances closely follow the arrival of Superorganism’s self titled debut album, off which comes this synthy burbling new charmer, Reflections On The Screen, which arrives by way of music video. Reflections On The Screen is a vibrant burst of the band’s chromatic pop. Superorganism’s music is so unpredictable and singular, many have even compared them to the Gorillaz. Pre-order their debut album, here, before its release date of March 2nd on Domino.

Lake Jons released their marvelous self titled debut album last month. In the days leading up to its arrival, we shared many of the Finnish lo-fi pop and psych folk band’s songs. Just as we expected, their debut album doesn’t contain a single banal track. Give Away is but one of many splendid songs from the record, and today we partake in its spacey warbling, jaunty stirring rock together. I’d encountered it on Soundcloud during my musical discovery adventures, and I just couldn’t resist popping it up for a share since it’s such a wonderfully intoxicating, heady shimmering delight. For more on Lake Jons’ debut album, visit their website, here.

Oakland native Arieh Berl continues to garner growing success with his solo project Pink Skies since his debut ‘Start. End’ half a year ago. In fact, attention has been so swift that some congratulations are in order. The multi-faceted musician, who’s also a member of local indie band Fever Charm, has signed his first record deal with HW&W Recordings, and he’s gearing up to drop Pink Skies’ first EP on the label later this year. Tonight, we groove out to the first single off the EP, an infectiously pumping psychedelic dance and electro-rock song named Reflections. Though we’re still much infatuated with Pink Skies’ prior singles and even his cover of 6LACK’s Gettin’ Old, there’s no doubt that Reflection is his best song to date. It prances and sashays with satin chic aplomb, like Electric Guest meets Broken Bells with extra pizzazz and spring. You’ll be hard pressed not to swing your hips and wag your head to the gallant rhythm of this flashy glittering, wavy rolling tune. Keep up with Pink Skies’ releases on Soundcloud, here, while we await further news regarding his self-titled debut EP.

It’s not even February yet and it’s already been a wild 2018. With the dawning of each new day, a flurry of news and tour announcements has been surfacing. New Zealand psych rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra are responsible for some high spirits this week as they announce their new album Sex & Food and unveil their snarling new single American Guilt, our first taste of the new record. Gloriously growling guitars and fuming vocals endow this blustering anthem, a welcome return from the esteemed band. UMO also announced a tour, with a stop in Oakland at the Fox Theater on May 10th. American Guilt is available, here. Sex & Food’s release date is yet to be announced.
