All the “frills” without the pretentiousness could very well be this duo’s slogan. New York based New Zealand duo Frills leave us swooning with their resplendent psych funk, dance rock, and disco pop on She’s Got Love. It’s the most intoxicating fusion of Foster The People, Portugal. the Man, and MGMT vibes we’ve ever heard, a delectable jam with suave electric guitar riffs and smooth falsettos. For more Frills, including fine gems we’ve featured in the past, visit their Soundcloud, here.

I would love to be friends with Frills, the New York based New Zealand duo who’ve already wooed us in abundance in the past with their endearing brand of psych pop and guitar pop, particularly if it means they’ll serenade us endlessly with their music. The pair have returned with a luminous new tune named We Can Be Friends, complete with feel good hooks and a sing-along ready chorus. Its a much needed dose of sunshine and summery euphoria on a morning when the temperatures have reached near freezing lows here in some parts of the Bay. Re-visit Frills’ earlier singles via Soundcloud, here.

A truly “magical tide” engulfs us as New York based New Zealand duo Frills return with some funky psychedelic pop on fresh new single My Love. The pair draw influence from the likes of Happy Mondays, Flaming Lips, and Gorillaz, but Magic Tide also echoes the playful strut of Portugal. the Man’s more recent work as well as the electro-funk flourishes of Ben Khan. This “tide” comes in like an invigorating and uplifting breeze, with perfect “frills”. Magic Tide follows on the heels of Frills’ debut single My Love, which sure left us excited about the new band earlier this year. Re-visit My Love, here.

There are no unnecessary frills or excess ruffles when it comes to this Brooklyn based band’s charming debut. Everything is in its place, everything is endearing, enchanting, and alluring. Frills’ first single, My Love, is a mellow lilting, melodic hooking indie pop earworm complete with irresistible whistling and a low-key funky groove. My Love is like Peter Bjorn and John gone more sooty alt, or Foster The People gone more muggy chill. It’s a fine anthem for the coming summer months. Color us intrigued, but we can’t wait to hear more from Frills and learn more about the new band.
