Aww yeah, I knew we’d be in for some new Jungle soon considering the collective’s recent touring activities, and here we are, with not one but two new jams (and videos) from the funk and soul loving Londoners! Happy Man and House In LA are our first new Jungle tunes since the band lit us on fire with their 2014 self-titled debut album. Hopefully, this means their sophomore album is arriving soon, and a new expansive tour is on its way, since I had to miss their stop in San Francisco a few weeks back. Happy Man is classic Jungle, a funky strutting, soulful swaggering affair. It’s lavish and opulent, dashing and suave. House In LA, however, bucks the usual Jungle pizzazz for a heady and sleek, dreamy and warped shimmer, kind of like James Vincent McMorrow gone psychedelic plush whilst enveloped by Radiohead’s orchestral electronica. While Happy Man might be the immediately hooking song out of the two, there’s no doubt House In LA is my favorite and the most brilliant offering. Happy Man and House In LA are both available now from XL Recordings, here and here, respectively.

SOFI TUKKER’s wildly infectious Best Friend, the Grammy nominated duo’s collaboration with The Knocks, NERVO, and Alisa Ueno, is easily one of the year’s best dance tracks. It’s certainly one of our top favorites, and we’re still glowing with joy from the fact that it’s been featured so prominently by Apple in their big iPhone X commercial. The NYC based alt dance duo shared an immense remix pack for Best Friend last Friday, off which comes this frisky fun, beat clobbering edit by Sophie and Tucker themselves. The energetic pumping new “Carnaval Remix” is well worth of some prismatic plumed Brazilian Carnival shenanigans. This rump shaking rendition is a Brazilian house bonanza, and it’s available from iTunes alongside three other edits on the new remix pack, here.

By now, I’ve been fortunate enough to catch SOFI TUKKER live so many times that you’d think that I’ve gotten used to their high energy, crowd elating sets. Yet each time a new chance to see Sophie and Tucker fire up the audience with their groundbreaking form of Brazilian house-pop and jungle-y alt dance leaves my heart fluttering anew with excitement. From the pair’s very first shows at SXSW a couple years back to a dazzling set at the Greek Theater ahead of Odesza a few weeks ago, SOFI TUKKER has been nothing short of magnificent. We’ve also been wildly reveling in the success of Best Friend, their colossal new single with NERVO, The Knocks, and Alisa Ueno. As if 2017 isn’t already closing out strong for SOFI TUKKER and SOFI TUKKER fans alike, the duo have now unleashed Energia, a vivacious, beatific, and contagious carousel ride that dips fully into the Brazilian/Portuguese side of the pair’s sound. Like Drinkee and Matadora, Energia is a collaboration with Brazilian poet Chacal. It’s got plenty of that smoldering SOFI TUKKER spice and fire that we fell so hard for previously. All that’s left to do now is dance, wild and feral, untamed and free, to yet another phenomenal genre defying, classification breaking SOFI TUKKER heater. Download/stream the single, here.

Philadelphia trap, grime, and hip hop expert Baauer unites with Canadian turntablist and producer A-Trak on a surprise two track EP to go along with the big announcement of their B2B tour together. That’s right. Baauer. A-Trak. Together. The two celebrated producers meld their individual styles on Dumbo Drop, a hypnotic bass thumper that lurks in the shadows, or on a dark basement dance floor. For a funky vivacious jungle tease, dive into the other track on the EP below. Fern Gully is a lush sonic oasis, one which you won’t be able to resist shaking your booty to, all night long. Both tracks are out now on Fool’s Gold Records. Stream/purchase, here.

Melon loving, Josh Ocean lead Los Angeles avant-garde project NVDES seems to march to the beat of their own drum. Their ear perking music is always fresh and unique. They truly “do their thing” when it comes to their psychedelic groove and alt dance music, plus they throw a heckuva show live, too, as I myself experienced recently at the Independent in San Francisco. Come December 8th, NVDES will be releasing their La NVDITÉ, Vol. 2 EP, a six-track collection, and it includes this jungle lush groover, D.Y.T. (Do Your Thing), featuring Nashville’s REMMI on piquant vocals. It’s impossible to keep from moving to this playful bouncing, spicy bumping tune, which sort of comes off like a cross between JAIN and SOFI TUKKER, with a buoyant Jersey bounce. Purchase/stream D.Y.T. (Do Your Thing), here, as we wait for NVDES next EP.

You can never go wrong with a new Louis The Child track, much less one that features California singer songwriter Ashe on playful tickling vocals. The Windy City production favorites deliver a sparkly romper of a breezy tropical, jocose chiming anthem in Right To It. A touch of dancehall and even jungle seem to endow this bushy-tailed new Louis The Child Adventure. It’s obvious Louis The Child is trying out some fresh new sounds, and they’ve dazzled us with their chameleon dexterity with the bacchanalian foray. Catch the duo on their expansive Last To Leave Tour across North America, details can be found, here.

I became an instantaneous fan of Jarina De Marco a year ago when I heard her eclectic single TIGRE over a year ago. The Los Angeles based artist, whose roots lie in both the Dominican Republic and Brazil, seemed to bring together her diverse background with ease on the rump shaking Brazilian bass meets dancehall extravaganza. Now, Jarina De Marco has teamed up with Miami production bigwigs GTA on an exhilaration new anthem named STFU. Spice, spunk, and Latin fire abound on the killer banger. Jarina De Marco is certainly a sound of the future. She’s a must for fans of SOFI TUKKER. I expect her buzz to grow exponentially. Wildly infectious STFU is out on Mad Decent. Stream/purchase, here.

Are you ready for a sonic safari? Because that’s exactly what we’re embarking on as we delve into this dazzling new tune from Flamingo Jones. Whatever island the Melbourne producer is evincing on The Island Does Crazy Things, I feel like I’m right there with him as I listen to this wild bonanza of lush psychedelic and tropical splendor. Nick Bond, the mind behind Flamingo Jones, tagged his experimental electronic masterpiece “nature beat” on Soundcloud, and he utilized a wide array of instruments to craft the worldly piece. The Island Does Crazy Things quickly brings to mind Animal Collective, with a touch of Baio and a sliver of Al Bairre. It’s a prime cut for those who really want an evocative jungle escapade. The Island Does Crazy Things is the second single from Flamingo Jones’ sophomore EP, expected to arrive later this year. You can purchase the song from Bandcamp, here.

I’ve actually been searching for a proper stream of this phenomenal tune for close to two weeks. Back when it first surfaced, the only option available tor sharing was a BBC Radio Hottest Record rip, and Cola is far too fantastic a song to share it in that muddles, low quality state. London based singer songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Elderbrook recently teamed up with production buzz makers CamelPhat (Whelan & Di Scala) on mesmeric thrumming Cola. It’s a lush swelling, moody gripping masterpiece saturated with lavishly entrancing percussion. Elderbrook’s infectious vocals lure us in with a rhythmic lilt reminiscent of Crystal Fighters and other indie/alt dance bands, but dropped in a luscious garage soundscape much like Jamie xx crossed with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Cola is a jaw dropping collaboration and one of the year’s best electronic tracks I’ve encountered. Grab it from iTunes, here.

SOFI TUKKER’s Moon Tattoo is a gorgeous tune off the Grammy nominated duo’s stellar EP Soft Animals. It’s a cool halcyon gem with a mystical ambiance. Sydney based producer Frost has given the song a sublime re-work seasoned with deliciously dark synths and deep rumbling bass. Frost’s remix is sweet ambrosia for the ears… tranquilly entrancing but also hypnotically moving, like a celestial dance under a magical moon in the depths of an enchanted jungle. SOFI TUKKER’s critically acclaimed and widely adored EP, Soft Animals, is available from major retailers, here.
