Aww yeah, I knew we’d be in for some new Jungle soon considering the collective’s recent touring activities, and here we are, with not one but two new jams (and videos) from the funk and soul loving Londoners! Happy Man and House In LA are our first new Jungle tunes since the band lit us on fire with their 2014 self-titled debut album. Hopefully, this means their sophomore album is arriving soon, and a new expansive tour is on its way, since I had to miss their stop in San Francisco a few weeks back. Happy Man is classic Jungle, a funky strutting, soulful swaggering affair. It’s lavish and opulent, dashing and suave. House In LA, however, bucks the usual Jungle pizzazz for a heady and sleek, dreamy and warped shimmer, kind of like James Vincent McMorrow gone psychedelic plush whilst enveloped by Radiohead’s orchestral electronica. While Happy Man might be the immediately hooking song out of the two, there’s no doubt House In LA is my favorite and the most brilliant offering. Happy Man and House In LA are both available now from XL Recordings, here and here, respectively.

This day can’t get any better now that our long time Swedish electro-pop and neo-soul faves, Little Dragon, has surprised us with a brand new song ahead of their North American spring tour. Yukimi Nagano and her bandmates shed some of the wild entangling psychedelics from their last album Season High and return to a more slow burning and sparse synthpop meets soul sound on Sway Daisy. The sumptuous new Little Dragon song is available from iTunes, here. The band’s March tour doesn’t seem to include a Bay Area stop, but we’re hoping this means they’ll be on a local festival billing or fresh dates will be added somewhere down the line. Hit their website, here, for current dates and locations.

Esteemed New Zealand jazz pop artist Kimbra will be releasing her third full length album Primal Heart on April 20th. Though the date seems very far off right now, the strenuous wait is much more manageable now that the two-time GRAMMY award winning songstress has shared a music video for her latest single, Human. You never know quite what to expect when Kimbra blesses us with new music. She’s that creative and unpredictable, imaginative and original. Human sees her wading deep into electro-R&B territory. It’s an avant-garde foray into the jazzy ornate pop that Kimbra is such an expert at. Fierce and spunky, fluid and sultry Human even feels like Phantogram meets Little Dragon at times with its glitch hop beats and its neo-soul/trip hop vibes. Pre-order Primal Heart, which has been named by Rolling Stone as one of the year’s most anticipated albums, here. Those in San Francisco can catch Kimbra on tour when she hits the Regency Ballroom on Tuesday, February 13th. More tour info can be found on her website, here.

We’re celebrating Sigrid’s BBC Sound of 2018 accomplishment today, but let’s not forget about Jorja Smith, one of our favorite BBC Sound of 2017 contenders, who blew us away the moment she made her debut with Blue Lights well over a year ago. As expected, she’s went on to garner a ginormous amount of critical acclaim and fan devotion, and today, she’s revealed a stunning new tune featuring UK grime king Stormzy. Let Me Down is a beautifully devastating R&B soul ballad. Jorja’s exceptional voice flies resolutely over heartfelt keys, while Stormzy adds raw grit to the sensational track. Let Me Down is a heart stopping anthem. Hopefully, Jorja Smith will follow up the song with news of a debut album soon. Stream/purchase Let Me Down, here.

To be honest, describing Yellow Days music hasn’t come easy. The unique 18 year old wunderkind continues to defy convention and classification with his psychedelic vintage pop and lo-fi soul on new single Holding On. He builds ever so strongly towards the release of his upcoming full length project ‘Is Everything Okay In Your World?’ with yet another forlorn crackling, shabby warped experimental track on which George van den Broeck’s vocals are on showstopping display. This is the sort of music that could haunt you forever. Time doesn’t seem to exist when you listen to Yellow Days. It could be decades prior right now, or years ahead in the future. I feel as if I’m listening to him through an old phonograph sometimes. A movie reel of broken hearted memories play through my mind as I suddenly feel faded and old beyond my years. Yet this anguish is so sublime… it’s as if Yellow Days knows all of the struggles and loss that our hearts have gone through. And all we want to do is “hold on” to that feeling of sad comfort. Yellow Days explains of Holding On:

‘The track is about living your life in a manner that you’re always holding on, finding day to day life hard. It’s about modern depression’. ‘Is Everything Okay In The World?’ will be out on October 27th via Good Years.

Swedish neo-soul and electronic pop outfit Little Dragon is without a doubt one of my all time favorites (meaning they’re on my list of bands that I’ll probably love till the end of time). Ritual Union is up there as a favorite song from the Yukimi Nagano lead band, and it’s such a treat to get to re-visit her soulful voice and the sassy swishing tune by way of a chic and snazzy remix by an enigmatic production crew named AUXIL. Chill funk, future soul, hip hop, and deep house all interweave on this decadent FKJ meets Kaytranada edit. AUXIL’s remix is a free download, here.

‘Loving You’ is the lead track off Nick Nery’s debut EP ‘Phoenix’, which is available at Target. The NikoBeats’ track is two years old but still resonates. The neo-soul singer soars smoothly through the pains of unrequited love.

Though On And On was our very first encounter with Curtis Harding and his music despite his having released a full length in 2014, it was immediately apparent that this is an artist to take note of and keep a close watch on. He’s swooped out of Atlanta with a dashing brand of vintage soul and old school R&B that evokes the likes of Leon Bridges and Michael Kiwanuka, but with the funky Motown strut of some of Danger Mouse’s work. On And On is out now via ANTI- Records. Find out more from his website, here.

As it turns out, much adored Los Angeles based indie pop and neo soul outfit Fitz and the Tantrums dropped a fine new single recently, and I finally happened upon the tune and its kooky video today. Whether it’s also your first day enjoying Fool, or whether this is a re-visit for you, there’s no denying the fact that Fool is an irresistible jam. It’s a perky booming, cheeky strutting new tune from FATT’s forthcoming deluxe edition of their 2016 self titled album. You can stream and download Fool, here. Catch Fitz and the Tantrums on tour this summer, details, here.

An irresistible groove and classic vibes abound on No Good, alcordo’s debut original. This newcomer from Scarborough, Canada is already making an indelible mark and catching tastemaker ears aplenty with her R&B soul. Her jazzy luxuriant, infectious swaying single is a warm breadth of vibrant West Coast sunshine. No Good would be so good on a languorous cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down and a sea breeze running through my hair. No Good is out now via JMSN’s label White Room Records.
