Perhaps you somehow missed the news and buzz surrounding this welcome development, but in case you didn’t know, Theresa Wayman of Los Angeles art rock band Warpaint has been releasing some fabulous new music as solo project TT. In fact, she just released her debut album LoveLaws last Friday, and it’s high time we pay homage by sharing its latest single, a murky, muddy trip hop and art pop song named The Dream. It’s a heady Björk meets

treat that I’m very much looking forward to sinking into live when TT headlines Popscene in San Francisco on July 6th (with our French-American favorites Freedom Fry supporting, too). For more tour dates and links to TT’s debut album, head over to her site, here.

Electro-funk legends Chromeo have been teasing us for awhile now regarding their next album, and though we still don’t know exactly when Head Over Heels will be released, at least we now know it’s dropping in spring. Dave 1 and P-Thugg have also unveiled a follow up to lead single Juice, even partnering up with R&B/hip hop luminary The-Dream on Bedroom Calling. Chromeo says they’ve been obsessed with The-Dream since Fast Car from his first album. To them, The-Dream is a modern day funk auteur, like Prince or El Debarge, and their new song pays homage to their favorite work of his. Chromeo also announced their expansive world tour this spring, kicking off in Vancouver on April 3rd with a stop in the bay on April 7th at the Fox Theater. Delicious icing on the cake? Electronic project Phantoms will be traveling with them to Oakland, too. Visit Chromeo’s website, here, for more details. For now, we can dance it up and get on down to funkalicious, groovalicious Bedroom Calling, a snazzy strutting R&B funk swooner.

Out of California is a debut track ‘u & me’ from MAGS. The title fused with the artwork first conjured up the thought that this was a flip of Flume’s remix of Disclosure’s You & Me. However this Future R&B track surprises when T-Pain’s voice comes on. From then on out it’s a whirl of delight.

The artwork, reminiscent of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, elicits the perfect image for this MAGS track. Van Gogh’s work was expressive and spontaneous with it’s use of vivid colors, broad oil brushstrokes and emotive subject matter. ‘u & me’ is similar to that, I mean, who puts a guitar in a future r&b track AND makes it work. The Purple in the artwork is due to the epiphany MAGS had when Prince died. He wanted to get back to the essence of what got him into music. What’s more essence to our existence than the cosmic connection we have to one and another. I can’t wait to hear more art from MAGS.

Purity Ring Boiler Room set Montreal

May 30, 2013

I don’t think I’ve shared a Boiler Room set on here in a long while, but this one, I must. Apparently, Boiler Room now has a Montreal show, and who else was in charge of the decks for their very first debut show but PURITY RING!!! If you love Purity Ring’s electronic music and future pop, this one’s for you. And me. Me me me. Love. The set features the likes of Cassie ,Jeremih, Ciara, Rustie, Bieber (uh, yes), Nicki Minaj, Blackstreet, Angel Haze, The Dream, and Purity Ring’s own music. But it’s all signature sounding Purity Ring production and mixing. Nommy! So, howz about a Boiler Room series in SAN FRANCISCO, huh huh HUH???? So I can catch some of these sick sets IN PERSON rather than on YouTube? Pretty, please?

The Dream seems to have taken a page from many of the popular warpy trap hop artists of late, and maybe even a page from Death Grips, on this super angry new track titled TRON. It’s harsh and angry. Somehow, it makes me want to put on some Death Grips. TRON will be on his coming album IV Play out on May 7.
