This day can’t get any better now that our long time Swedish electro-pop and neo-soul faves, Little Dragon, has surprised us with a brand new song ahead of their North American spring tour. Yukimi Nagano and her bandmates shed some of the wild entangling psychedelics from their last album Season High and return to a more slow burning and sparse synthpop meets soul sound on Sway Daisy. The sumptuous new Little Dragon song is available from iTunes, here. The band’s March tour doesn’t seem to include a Bay Area stop, but we’re hoping this means they’ll be on a local festival billing or fresh dates will be added somewhere down the line. Swedish neo-soul and electronic pop outfit Little Dragon is without a doubt one of my all time favorites (meaning they’re on my list of bands that I’ll probably love till the end of time). Ritual Union is up there as a favorite song from the Yukimi Nagano lead band, and it’s such a treat to get to re-visit her soulful voice and the sassy swishing tune by way of a chic and snazzy remix by an enigmatic production crew named AUXIL. Chill funk, future soul, hip hop, and deep house all interweave on this decadent FKJ meets Kaytranada edit. AUXIL’s remix is a free download, here.
It’s quite the surprise to get a new Little Dragon song since it hasn’t been that long since the Swedish outfit dropped their last album Season High, much less a song that also features R&B queen Faith Evans as a guest vocalist. But here we are, jamming out to Peace Of Mind. Yukimi Nagano and Faith Evans’ soulful crooning, all at once? Yes, please! The soulful R&B groover comes with a music video, too. I’m crazy excited for Little Dragon’s new album Season High, even more so than I originally expected despite the fact that I’m fully aware of how much I love the Swedish neo-soul and electropop project fronted by charismatic Yukimi Nagano. Sweet and High have shown us how much Little Dragon continues to push boundaries and think outside of the box on their new material. It’s obvious Season High is going to be one of their most brilliant and creative records yet, with heady and edgy offerings. They continue this trajectory on fresh taste Celebrate, a snappy funking jam that recalls some of their earlier offerings, but with a bounteous amount of psychedelic embellishment and plenteous throwback Prince vibes. I’m so excited over the fact that a new Little Dragon album is on its way that I’m just about ready to jump out of my own skin. The project has been a personal favorite for many years, and the arrival of woozy psychedelic High last month was a hint that something fresh was brewing in those Swedish waters. Sure enough, news of an album entitled Season High has arrived, and the band has revealed a frothy bubbling new single, too. Sweet is everything it sets out to be, a full on sugar high bursting with Yukimi Nagano sass. The wonky burbling, volatile vaulting dazzler comes with an eye popping music video, too. If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to inject Little Dragon with some of Grimes’ splashy and eccentric theatrics, Sweet might be your answer. Though I’ve never been one with a sweet tooth, I can’t get enough of Sweet. Though they’ve yet to announce a San Francisco tour date, I can’t wait to see Little Dragon again, even if all they play is Sweet on repeat. I’ll dance all night long to this frisky song. Yukimi Nagano lead Swedish outfit Little Dragon has been a favorite of mine for close to a decade now, so my Tuesday started out unimaginably fabulous when I woke up to a brand new tune from the alt R&B and indietronica band. Little Dragon bathes us with warm swirling fog on High, a plush song whose name pretty much summarizes how it feels. The woozy slow jam is an intoxicating trip. Its surreal haze directly translates into the song’s heady music video. Yukimi even sings “feel free to roll another one for me” on the song, so they’re definitely not holding anything back in regards to the drugged out vibes on their droopy new tune. Except we don’t really need anything else to feel inebriated when we have a song like this to dissolve into completely. Along with the new song comes news of a Little Dragon tour this April that takes them from California, through Coachella, and to the East Coast, at times with Glass Animals and GoldLink. An Odesza song is an automatic must share. A Little Dragon song is an automatic must share. An Odesza AND Little Dragon song? My head explodes before I can do anything at all! Maybe not, but it’s a must must must share, for obvious reasons. I don’t know if they teased this tune at all, but I had no idea the brilliant Seattle electronic duo (whom I just caught tearing it up at Outside Lands Music Fest) had collaborated with one of my favorite Swedish electropop bands. What a divine surprise when Light popped up this morning! The gorgeous, glimmery tune is a sublime union of Odesza’s ethereal production and Yukimi Nagano’s sweet and entrancing cooing. The spectacular song will be on a deluxe edition of last year’s phenomenal Odesza album, In Return, out September 18th on Counter Records. In Return is undoubtedly one of last year’s best electronic albums. Light will also get a limited edition 10″ vinyl release on November 1st.
In an almost oddball coupling, Los Angeles’ Poolside has remixed Swedish neo-soul and electropop band Little Dragon’s Cat Rider, a track of LIttle Dragon’s recent album Nabuma Rubberband. And even more oddly enough, the super laid back and euphoric take works splendidly. Poolside smooths the track out, giving it plenty of dreamy, drifting atmosphere, inviting us to get totally and blissfully lost within its summery shimmers and swirling fog. In fact, there’s a Tycho like quality to this remix that I can’t help but enjoy.

Let’s start the afternoon off with a cover, shall we? Little Dragon, who’s due to play a sold out show at the cavernous Fox Theatre in Oakland tonight, turned in a fantabulous cover of Kelis’ Millionaire, which originally features Andre 3000. The Swedish electropop band’s neo-soul electropop style fits the tune well, and I found myself captivated to the utmost by the always incredible Yukimi Nagano and her smooth voice. This is also the first time I’ve heard Yukimi rap, which is pretty dang cool. This makes me regret not making it out to Little Dragon’s show tonight, but I’m planning to hit them up the next time they return this Fall. After all, I got to see them at Mezzanine a couple years ago, albeit while incredibly hungover because it was the day after my birthday.
