The thought of teflon usually brings to mind something tough and resistant, hard and strong. Yet Cleveland’s Teflon Sega renders us a melted, liquefied mess every time he serenades us with one of his R&B soul ballads. Those feelings bubble to surface yet again as Teflon Sega melts us with his creamy, satiny cooing on new single Closure, a poignant lament of a dreamy electro and velvety R&B track featuring sonic magician YLXR on foggy atmospheric, dusky surreal production duty. Tragic romance and aching heartbreak take a hold of us as we dissolve into this pillowy, dreamy affair. While the closure we seek in life might always evade us, at least we can seek comfort in Teflon Sega and drift into the night feeling a little bit more complete. Closure is a free download, here.

The North Bay Fire Relief Benefit Concert at Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma went down exactly a week ago, and we’re still feeling very despondent that we couldn’t make it up for the show. Not only was it for a very good cause, but we would’ve loved to have been mesmerized by Devon Baldwin again. The now Los Angeles based San Francisco native both lifts our spirits and tears our hearts asunder with a gorgeously devastating new track. The ever stunning siren has presented us with a beautifully moving, chiffon stirring cover of Drake’s Shot For Me, featuring a few slightly altered choice lyrics to “make it extra topical”, as Devon herself said. The singer songwriter re-unites with her go-to producer and friend Christoph Andersson on the heartstrings tugging ballad. It’s a synthesis we’ve praised with much zeal in the past, and the union proves to be rewarding once again as Andersson sculpts an immaculate and austere electro-based soundscape to cushion Devon Baldwin’s aerial fluttering, pure and silvery voice. It’s a minimalistic song with no bells and whistles to hide behind, but there’s nothing that needs hiding when it comes to Devon Baldwin’s pristine vocals and heartfelt performance. She lays it all out. Shot For Me has never felt more raw, vulnerable, and sincere than on this deeply moving cover, which even works in some well suited Marvin’s Room. Devon Baldwin’s Shot For Me can also be streamed via Spotify, here, and downloaded from iTunes, here.

It’s likely you’ve already heard about this talented musician from New York, particularly if you take into account the sheer amount of streams he’s racked up on all the tracks he’s released under the project name of joji (millions, to be exact). Even if not, you might be familiar with the enigmatic artist’s role in web series Filthy Frank TV, or his other project, Pink Guy. His latest release as joji is a mellow lilting, diaphanous hovering downtempo pop piece named ‘i don’t wanna waste my time’, and it’s the exact opposite of a waste of anybody’s time. In fact, time itself ceases to exist for a few brief minutes as we drift in deep contemplation to this heartrending bedroom pop emulsion. Listen to some of joji’s other offerings via Soundcloud, here.

Enter a misty surreal, foggy swirling world alongside Spanish starlet Sofi de la Torre as she links up with guest vocalist Taylor Bennett on her latest single, Views Of You. Fleecy plush, feathery soft Views Of You is a supple hovering, poignantly reflective beauty. If there’s any moment to coin the sub-genre name “dream R&B”, it would probably be now, expressly for Views Of You. Sofi de la Torre’s outstanding new single caresses us ever so gently, yet it has the striking ability to drive straight into the heart and draw the deepest sighs.

It is a true sonic Elysium we encounter on DVWEZ’s latest ravishing single, Paradise. The singer and songwriter from Florida woos us with a plush, lavish soundscape and torrid brass as we wade into the sensuous beauty. This breathy seductive late night ballad fuses pastel gauzy soul with foggy fluorescent 80′s synthpop. I find it hard not to surrender myself and dissolve completely into its luxuriant folds. We’ve been fans of DVWEZ’s music for a long time, but this might be her most sublime aria yet. It arrives as the title track from DVWEZ’s next EP, out later this year. Paradise, which features AnimalGrammar on saxophone and KAIXEN on production, can also be streamed via Soundcloud below. Purchase from iTunes, here.

Yukimi Nagano lead Swedish outfit Little Dragon has been a favorite of mine for close to a decade now, so my Tuesday started out unimaginably fabulous when I woke up to a brand new tune from the alt R&B and indietronica band. Little Dragon bathes us with warm swirling fog on High, a plush song whose name pretty much summarizes how it feels. The woozy slow jam is an intoxicating trip. Its surreal haze directly translates into the song’s heady music video. Yukimi even sings “feel free to roll another one for me” on the song, so they’re definitely not holding anything back in regards to the drugged out vibes on their droopy new tune. Except we don’t really need anything else to feel inebriated when we have a song like this to dissolve into completely. Along with the new song comes news of a Little Dragon tour this April that takes them from California, through Coachella, and to the East Coast, at times with Glass Animals and GoldLink. Find High on iTunes, here.

R&B singer songwriter SVFARI resurfaces from London and re-unites with UK producer Atlas on a tender stirring piece named For Something You Love. The fleecy melting beauty is a taste from SVFARI’s debut EP, due out later this year. It’s midnight magic as SVFARI’s vocoder treated vocals hover tentatively in the air, guiding us through Atlas’ lush celestial soundscape. This imaginative aerial lullaby is sure to take you to a land of enchantment, at times in a similar fashion to some of Francis and the Light’s music, but more plush and cottony.

Cosmic smooth vibes abound on Beretta Lake, a new R&B soul melter from New York’s Teflon Sega. The velveteen crooner unites with producers WAJU and F A L L EN on the creamy celestial tune to enfold us in warmth on a frigid cold winter day. Brooklyn’s SAINt JHN provides a mesmeric, hip hop laced verse to the dreamy wafting beauty, making this a four way oasis of heavenly sound. Teflon Sega leaves me in swaying on cottony clouds of bliss with Beretta Lake.

The delicate and earnest balance between the sensual and the heartbreaking in Lyves’ music always renders me a rather helpless and transfixed mess. The London based singer-songwriter and producer fills those wounded, aching voids within us with gossamer sleek electro R&B and misty haunting pop on No Love. We float in her soupy intoxicating sonic fog, our hearts tenderized by the exquisite anguish seeping through from Lyves’ silky smooth voice. As halycon soothing as it is, No Love also hides much barbed restlessness in its plush velour, both through its dissonant haunting chords and its spectral trip hop skitters. No Love is a breathtaking taste from Lyves’ debut EP, Like Water, which comes out on January 20th.

Call Me Up envelops us in buttery smooth, swirling warm R&B pop, leaving us in a divinely relaxed state of mind. The song is the latest from Montreal project Homeshake, the brainchild of  ex-Mac DeMarco member Pete Sagar. Pete is preparing a third album for eager fans. In the meantime, he floats us into the clouds with honeyed intoxicating, gooey melting bedroom pop. Homeshake’s new album Fresh Air will arrive on February 3rd. You can pre-order, here.
