It only took a few seconds for me to become a Mazy fan. That’s how gloriously intoxicating the Sydney trio’s spacey psychedelia is on new song Enemies. The band, who just signed to Sweat It Out, have melded Tame impala’s glistering grandeur with Washed Out’s heady chillwave, plus they seem to have sprinkled it all with some of Cults’ charming indie/synthpop, too! Enemies, which arrives with a wonderfully quirky video, is only Mazy’s second single. The band released their debut single Heliar late last year, which is also a must listen gem. Stream the lusciously pulsing indie electro song below. It’s no wonder Mazy has been making waves back at home in Australia with their delicately organic, powerfully electronic music. Enemies is available via major platforms, here.

Ever since Salad Days in 2014, slacker rock purveyor Mac DeMarco has become a dignitary of sorts in the indie rock scene, with countless devout fans all across the world. Sydney’s Mickey Kojak must be a big fan, too. After all, he’s given Mac DeMarco’s Chamber Of Reflection a ravishing cover re-work, and the resulting languorously synthwavy and spacey soulful rendition is absolutely stunning, if not wonderfully, dreamily nostalgic. It’s a thorough transformation, and a thorough intoxicator.

A “Wonder” indeed is this new tune from Australia’s San Mei, who partnered with Oscar Dawson to produce the new single. A dream-like haze is met by fierce, gusty assertion on the psych washed rock meets grungy guitar pop song. San Mei, aka Emily Hamilton, achieves a very striking fusion of sounds on the track. The artist began her musical journey at the keys of her family piano, and as can probably be gleaned from her latest single, she inherited her dad’s love of the Beatles and his penchant for 60′s pop. San Mei’s lissome voice and a heavy blanket of rich smoldering guitars create a gloriously heady contrast on Wonder, leaving us, as previously mentioned, in awe-struck wonder.  She explains: “The new single ‘Wonder’ captures the classic butterflies moment when someone unknown to you captures your attention, and you’re not sure why. It’s about that person becoming a mysterious daydream to you, wondering who they are, what they’re about, and that feeling of not knowing if you want them to become anything more than some intoxicating illusion.” You can also stream Wonder via Spotify, here.

Los Angeles artist Mikale D’Andrea keeps it simple and to the point on the Soundcloud profile for his new project SAVI MINDS. “I like writing songs about how I feel, and I like using sounds that portray the way I think,” he says and continues: “My goal with SAVI MINDS is to expose the hidden layer of myself that I never want to tell anyone about.” We’re infinitely fortunate we get to witness and partake in what artists reveal of themselves through their music, and we’re more than lucky we get to sway to the gauzy strums and gently spiraling synths found on SAVI MINDS’ first single, Dreaming. Its mellow psych rock and chill shoegaze wallows in a spectrum of despairing emotions, but we drift on the song’s incandescent shimmers and ultraviolet waves in pure, untroubled bliss. SAVI MINDS’ Dreaming can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

I could get through anything when I have a new jam like this one from Oakland’s Pink Skies to keep me grooving, so it’s more than suitable that Arieh Berl, the multi-talented artist behind the project, has named his latest release Just To Get By. Berl, who’s also a member of local indie outfit Fever Charm, continues his upwards trajectory as a striking artist to watch with the ravishing new tune. Gauzy psychedelia abounds on the propulsive driving, opalescent shimmering song. Pink Skies continues to enamor us with an opulent brand of kaleidoscopic rock and dreamy pop akin to the lush rhapsodies catered by fellow visionaries like Electric Guest, Tame Impala, and Broken Bells. We’re hoping Berl’s continuing momentum means we’ll be hearing even more of his iridescent concoctions soon. Just To Get By is available via major outlets, here. Los Angeles based band Elle Belle, who we’ve had the honor of premiering music by before and who’s also collaborated with Brooklyn indie pop darlings Lucius in the past, will be releasing their new album No Signal on June 29th via Little Record Company. Elle Belle graces us with a new single from the record. In The Garden, which Elle Belle’s Christopher Pappas says is a song about becoming obsolete, is a sleek strutting yet deeply reflective delight. Elle Belle’s hazy psych pop and wavy synthrock meld into one another alongside the song’s syncopated beats and nimbly plucked strings. Pappas explains: ‘You had a vision there – in nowhere America, and had it disappear to end up in the soil.’ A blue collar worker that’s had his or her job turned over to automation, an artist who wonders if the voice they have is relevant anymore, or seeing someone who has broken your heart move out and move on. It’s about that pain we feel when we’re pushed aside to make room for the new. I think this sentiment within the baby boomer generation fueled the backlash that lead to the Trump victory. I also think it scares impressionable young white men to believe his voice is becoming irrelevant and so he pushes back against POC and women.” His new nine song album works through the stages of a breakup, leading us on an all too familiar journey through heartbreak, betrayal, bargaining, and unanswered questions. No Signal is ultimately an album about breaking up with America and isolation. You can pre-order No Signal digitally or on limited edition vinyl now at Bandcamp or iTunes.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra dropped their new album Sex & Food on Jagujaguwar last Friday. In case you haven’t listened to the album yet, let latest single Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays act as your impetus to dive into the New Zealand project’s new compendium of brilliant psych soul and rock. Not only is Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays a fabulous dose of UMO’s snazzy grooving aplomb, but it comes with an eye-popping music video, too, rife with vibrant colors and extravagant animations. It’s truly a treat for both the eyes and the ears. New album Sex & Food is available, here.

I was really hoping I’d get to see Wallows again at one of the many showcases they played at for SXSW last week, but alas, it wasn’t in the stars. But at least I was lucky enough to see them when they sold out the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco earlier this year, and what a show that was, too! The Los Angeles based band, whose ranks include actor Dylan Minnette, stirred the crowd into a frenzy with their infectious songs. Today, Wallows, who are on a fast ascent in the indie scene, return with news of their debut EP Spring as well as a first taste from the record named These Days. Spacey psych rock meets breezy sashaying indie rock on the track. These Days kind of reminds me of Noah and the Whale gone Tame Impala, which is a recipe I quite like, apparently. Wallows debut EP will feature six new songs, all of which I can’t wait to hear. These Days is available from iTunes, here. Follow Wallows on their website, here, for show announcements.

We are much indebted to music pal with fine music tastes for this new project on our radar. FETES is Cristian Campano, a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Sydney also known for his role as the frontman of garage punk band Food Court. His single Waiting For You thrills and inebriates with a bushy blend of mellifluous psych pop and snaggle-toothed rock. It’s a high caliber song that reminds me how much I’m missing the Smith Westerns and Cullen Omori’s solo project. Waiting For You is also adorned with chunky, surfy sections much reminiscent of The Drums, as well as a unique drum and bass roll.

“From years of loving Drum and Bass, I’ve always wanted to incorporate the fast break beats and heavy bass into my music,” Campano explains. “’Waiting For You’ was calling out for an exciting drum sound so once we injected the Drum and Bass, there was no turning back.” A video will be arriving shortly for FETES’ Waiting For You. Keep up with the artist on Facebook, here.

Flowers are fragrantly romantic, but with the addition of an extra “s”, they become even more divine and a treat for the ears, as exemplified by HALFNOISE, or Nashville artist (and Paramore drummer) Zac Farro, on his new single. Flowerss is the title track from HALFNOISE’s next EP, due out May 4th via Nashville-collective Congrats!. Farro and his band drench us with glossy, spacey 70s psychedelia on the alt rock jam.
