A thick swirl of scuzzy thumping rock envelopes us as Tancred enthralls us with her latest single, Something Else. While her ex-bandmates from Now, Now are in the midst of their new album release and touring for the record, Jess Abbott is preparing to release a new album of her own named Nightstand on June 1st. And she’s going to hit the road with The Joy Formidable this fall. 2018 is turning out to be super sweet, considering all the bands and artists we love that have returned with new albums. Something Else fluctuates between raw frenetic and sweetly delicate. Its a bit like Best Coast gone more vociferous and vehement, with some Slothrust and a bit of Snail Mail surfacing in its crunchy riffs and glistering shimmers. Pre-order new album Nightstand, here.

A kiss is sweet, but a “Kiss” from Pale Waves is even sweeter, particularly when its such a dreamy lustrous, glittery rocking alt pop gem like this new tune. We’ve been huge supporters of the Manchester based band this past year. We caught them live as many times as we could, both here in San Francisco and in Austin at SXSW, and we celebrated when they were named to BBC Sound of 2018′s esteemed shortlist. New song Kiss jump starts another busy and exciting season for the quartet, who are set to appear at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands Music Festival, and a number of CHVRCHES’ tour dates. The single is also their first release since they dropped their critically lauded debut EP, All The Things I Never Said. Kiss is a fresh and welcome dose of Pale Waves’ 80s styled, jaunty hooking alt pop. Kiss is available from iTunes, here.

I’d love to party with Jane’s Party someday, especially if they’re going to serenade us with any of the Toronto band’s dashing, swooning tunes. The quartet return to melt us with sleek billowing alt pop and shimmery synthpop on romantic You’re The Light. For all its glossy veneer and lustrous pop allure, there’s a dusty rolling undertone to the upbeat song that even evokes The War On Drugs and their emotive heartland rock. The song’s video is a chromatic dazzler, in which we get a little taste of the band’s renowned live performances. Stream/purchase the single, here.

Wrong is a word I’d never ever associate with Brooklyn’s pronoun, except on this rare occasion, when the one-woman band lead by Alyse Vellturo has released a new song named “wrong”. The zestful hooking guitar pop song feels ever so right with its lush prancing guitars and galvanic vocals. “wrong” is the second single from pronoun’s forthcoming debut album, set to drop sometime this year. Intimate lo-fi pop meets lithe and animated rock on her new anthem, of which pronoun explains:

“For the longest time I was so angry at her, and the news that should have been the final straw actually just made me feel really bad for her which spun me in to the weird emotion of how can you feel sorry for some one you "hate”? How is that even possible, do other people feel this way? I guess in a way it’s what I would want to say if i wanted to talk to her–which obviously I don’t–so i wrote this song instead.“ You can find the endearing new single on iTunes, here.

Hospital is an indie rock band from Moscow formed in 2011 by members from several other Russian bands. Though we’ve never heard of them until now, they already have two successful albums out. They’ve even supported the likes of Lana Del Rey, The Neighbourhood, and The Kooks on tour, and they’re now ready to release their third full length. In The Evening is a magnificently exhilarating taste from the record, a ravishing melodic rock piece whose plucky bass, lush strings, and snappy beats exude much art rock, dance pop, and post-punk assurance. In fact, In The Evening is almost like Editors and Two Door Cinema Club had a wild child together. Hospital will release their next album later this year. For an even more vibrant and dance rocking new preview from their next full length, stream Nothing But Love below. Keep up with the band through their website, here.

Some fortuitous music exploration the other day brought me to Seattle six piece La Fonda and their song In The Summer. It may not officially be summer here yet in the northern hemisphere, but it could very well be as we tap our feet and sway in ecstasy to this saccharine guitar pop earworm, a coastal charmer of a dreamy luscious jam. La Fonda brings us into a sun-dappled reverie with the hip swaying indie gem, a more than enamoring introduction to the collective, who have a whole slew of indie pop treats you can stream on Soundcloud, here. La Fonda plans on releasing a full length album come fall.

We’ve been following along with GRMLN since the project was a one person project, helmed by San Francisco musician Yoodoo Park. The music Yoodoo and his brother serve up is part 90s Dinosaur Jr slacker rock, part Day Wave surf pop, and a whole lot of sun-kissed, blissed out nostalgia. Later this month, GRMLN will officially release a new EP named Explore II. Drift Away is its opening track, a dreamy jangling, dulcet strumming lo-fi bedroom delight that oozes endless West Coast charm. You can listen to Explore II on Bandcamp, here, or Spotify, here.

Australia’s Slow Turismo never fails to charm me with their wonky warped psych pop and woozy jangling indie rock. Their latest single Adult Baby is a prime dose of exactly just that, a dulcet yet wistful, youthful and gauzy coming-of-age ditty that steals my heart away with its peppy step, its crunchy guitars, and some vintage flair. You’ll be oohing along before you know it, and swaying in rhythm to its contagiously ambling cadence. If you missed out on our long time affair with this Canberra quartet in the past, make sure you re-visit some of our older features, here.

Hannah Van Loon first caught our attention as a charismatic member of esteemed Oakland indie outfit Trails and Ways, so we were rather despondent when she parted ways with the band. But then she started releasing solo music as Tanukichan, proceeding to mesmerize us and intoxicate us with her dreamy whirring shoegaze and svelte, airy vocals. We’re more than ecstatic now that news has arrived of a debut full length. And guess who’s on board as producer? None other than Berkeley’s Chaz Bundick, or Chaz Bear, a.k.a. Toro y Moi! Sundays drops on July 13th, and Tanukichan has shared a sumptuous new song by way of a picturesque music video, too. Lazy Love is a glorious dream pop and hazy shoegaze song. Despite what seems to be a leisurely pace, it climbs to vigorous highs on the back of its emphatic guitar riffs. We find ourselves caught between restless agitation and tranquil, torpid bliss. It’s a state we want to stay in forever, listening to Tanukichan. I could spend many a summer afternoon drifting away to Lazy Love on repeat, and I probably will. Pre-order Tanukichan’s debut album Sundays, here.

Canadian four-piece Dizzy continues to awe critics and melt our hearts with the band’s tender bedroom dream pop on new single Joshua, out today via Royal Mountain Records / Communion Music. The pellucid trickling gem follows on the heels of remarkable prior singles like Swim and Pretty Thing. Airy, lustrous guitars and soft, saccharine vocals truly leave us dazed by Dizzy and their gently heartrending, intimately stirring lullaby.

Singer Katie Munshaw explains it’s ”a goodbye to someone who left my life unexpectedly. There’s a constant buzzing in your entire body after a relationship ends without closure. At first it chatters through to your teeth and bones, but eventually it dwindles down to a soft humming in a secret hiding spot in your heart. Coping. This song is ‘Goodbye, and thank you. I hope you’re well. This is what’s happened since you disappeared on me.’” Dizzy will be playing a series of tour dates these next few months, including stops in the UK, France, Canada, and Austin. Perhaps they’ll fit in some California shows at some point, too. One can hope…
