A band like Freedom Fry releasing a song named Cold Blooded Heart almost seems ironic, considering how sweetly affable and genuinely down to earth the French-American duo from Los Angeles has proven to be in all our encounters with the pair. But that’s exactly what Bruce Driscoll and Marie Seyrat have named their new single, a dusty rolling gem from their long awaited debut full length, arriving this summer. With it, Freedom Fry takes us to the ruthless Wild West, known for its stoic shootouts and its heart wringing escapades. But we feel cozy and safe, swaddled by the LA-based duo’s twangy strumming, bucolic stirring song. They’ve given us a heartfelt reminder to look to the future after surviving the past. Cold Blooded Heart is that welcome hearth, that dependable log cabin we return to after a long day out in the barren wilderness under a brutal sun. Our hearts may be beaten and mangled, but we’re lifted by Freedom Fry’s harmonious vocals, their beautifully lush strings, and an overwhelming sense of weathered contentment. “Make a fire, put it in your heart, I won’t let you go, I’ll make you whole again,” they coo. Freedom Fry’s debut album Classic drops on June 1st. Re-visit the title track via our feature, here.

Rodes Rollins is back with more of her dusty spellbinding, smoky enchanting music on Wes Come Back. As desolate tumbleweeds roll by, dreamy psychedelic mirages shimmer in the distance. The Boulder, Colorado native, who now resides in both NY and LA, endows her alt rock flavored charmer with a spaghetti western twang, giving us a unique storybook concoction that feels ghostly yet muggy and provocative. I’m transported into a Tarantino film, minus all the violence and with all of their nostalgic beauty. Wes Come Back features drums by Electric Guest’s Matthew Compton, and it tells the story of Wes, Rodes Rollins’ young love who endured a lot of hardship throughout his life.

It’s been a long year since we last enjoyed the bewitching beauty of Israeli duo Lola Marsh together, but tonight, they take us far away from the banality of our mundane lives with spectacular new song She’s A Rainbow. Imagine Lana Del Rey or Nancy Sinatra in a Tarantino movie, their whiskey soaked vocals enveloped in orchestral Spaghetti Western cinematics. She’s A Rainbow is glorious, magnificent indie pop. She’s A Rainbow will be on the Tel Aviv duo’s upcoming debut album.

Though the breaking up of the Smith Westerns was certainly bad news for many, many of the many are also much ecstatic about ex-member Cullen Omori’s solo record after having heard some of the splendid songs he’s previewed off of it. While swirling, twirling Cinnamon is still my favorite taste off of New Misery, I find myself gravitating immensely towards newly revealed Synthetic Romance, a lilting psychedelic wall of hazy, dreamy euphoria. Synthetic Romance is a very unique amalgamation of Spaghetti Western twanginess, kaleidoscopic synthiness, lo-fi pop, and jaunty rock. New Misery drops very soon on March 18th via Sub Pop. I’ll be in Austin at the time for SXSW, perhaps I’ll get to hear some of Cullen’s music live before I come home to my copy of the album sitting on my doormat. Pre-order yours from Sub Pop.

While LP has offered us an array of sound on her last few songs, even venturing into hooking electro pop territory, the talented Los Angeles based singer songwriter makes a return to organic earthiness again on beautiful Lost On You. In fact, the anthem nearly has a spaghetti western dustiness to it that matches her extraordinary voice perfectly. Lost On You was produced by Mike Del Rio, who’s from one of my favorite emerging indie pop acts out of Los Angeles right now, POWERS. It’s hard not to be moved by LP’s powerful voice, and this cinematic piece is a spectacularly rousing gem. I’ve yet to see LP live, and I greatly look forward to witnessing her compelling performance someday. Lost On You will be on LP’s forthcoming album, out in 2016 on Vagrant Records.

Nowadays, in the influential, colossal world of video gaming, music plays a large role, too. We’ve seen how incredible some of the soundtracks for certain games have been. Despite this, I did not expect the latest Tomb Raider game to sign on the great Karen O for its soundtrack. Karen O pens and delivers a glorious new tune for Rise Of The Tomb Raider named I Shall Rise. It’s a fiery slice of cabaret theatrics and Spaghetti Western dramatics. Yes, Karen O is super rad on the ferocious, dauntless song. Rise Of The Tomb Raider releases on November 10th. Gamer boys and girls are going to eat it up in joy.

You Don’t Own Me is a spectacular song from new Australian singer songwriter Grace. It’s a stunning re-working of Lesley Gore hit You Don’t Own Me. The 60′s pop artist recently passed away, and I have mad respect for her artistry, plus I harbor fond memories of listening to her hits with my mom, while growing up. Lesley really laid the foundation for most of the female pop sensations of our time. Grace’s passionate version features Oakland hip hop artist G-Eazy on guest rap vocals, and it’s a compelling combination. I never thought I’d encounter a hip hop imbued You Don’t Own Me, complete with all of its minor key, spaghetti Western styled vintage splendor. All I need are some wicked boots, and I’m ready to strut around to this tune.

Israeli duo Lola Marsh sure struck a chord with me on their new twangy tune Sirens. The spaghetti Western laced and greatly bewitching folk pop song is a bold and fiery song, with vocals that greatly remind me of Lana Del Rey and sweepingly cinematic orchestration. Having finally watched Tarantino film Django Django quite recently, Lola Marsh brings me right back into that world. This intriguing new act just signed recently with Anova Music and appeared in many big festivals in Europe.

Labrinth – Let It Be

I couldn’t wait for a SoundCloud stream to share this soulful, catchy tune, Let It Be, from Timothy McKenzie, aka talented English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Labyrinth. Let It Be is a crazy mix of almost everything… be it R&B, electronic, gospel, spaghetti western, soul… you name it. It’s a passionate, commanding song with all the makings of a huge UK hit. I think more Americans need to get up on Labrinth, don’t you?
