Do you remember when Bishop Briggs was simply known as Bishop? We sure do, because that’s when we fell head over heels for her stunning vocal skills and vehemently riveting tunes. We’ve been devout supporters and fans of the Los Angeles based singer songwriter since, and we’ve watched in joy as her star ascended. River will always be one of our all time favorite Bishop tracks. If you thought the original was incendiary, wait till you hear her voice on this new acoustic version. Every fine detail is on full display in this stripped down version, and it’s nothing short of jaw-dropping (we can’t shut our mouths, sorry, Bishop). We can’t help but look forward to Bishop Briggs’ debut full length Church Of Scars, out April 20th. You can pre-order it like we did, here. Bishop was recently announced as part of Alt 105.3′s stacked lineup for BFD 2018, going down on May 13th at Concord Pavilion. She last performed in the Subsonic Tent a couple years prior.

It’s a huge, huge day when we get to listen to something new from Bishop Briggs. The Los Angeles based singer songwriter, easily one of the best voices out there in the music scene right now, has scintillated us with her fierce and resilient music from day one, and we’re elated that she’s achieved such a massive following and stupendous level of success since, all more than deserved. Though this new offering is a cover, Bishop Briggs brings all her sheer power, unrivaled grit, and vitalic fortitude, including her scratchy sonorous, sooty burning vocals, to INXS classic Never Tear Us Apart. The cover is next song released from the forthcoming Fifty Shades Freed official soundtrack arriving on Republic Records. Listening to Bishop Briggs belt out her songs never gets old. She’s astonishing and jaw dropping each and every single time, and her live presence is so mighty and omnipotent that we’re oft left wondering if she’s even of this world. Pre-order the album, here.

It’s been a wild and vindictive journey for this long time fan of Bishop Briggs, the Los Angeles based singer songwriter who took the world by storm with her fierce and sonorous voice as well as her bluesy rocking electronica. She’s as magnificent as ever on new single Dream, her first release since her phenomenal self-titled debut EP (aside from her ace collaboration with Cold War Kids). Bishop Briggs says of her resolute marching, sooty searing new anthem:

“’Dream’ is unlike anything I’ve ever released. It was written with Dan Wilson who has never rested or settled on anything inauthentic. This song scares me and I think that’s what I find most liberating about it. ‘Dream’ is about having fears and doing your best to embrace them no matter how strenuous the grip is.”  Dream is an emotionally unshackling, spiritually freeing experience, driven by thunderous drums, a resounding choir, and of course, Bishop Brigg’s extraordinary voice. A debut album from Bishop Briggs is due to arrive next Spring. I’ll be restless with excitement for it, all the way through fall and winter. Find out about her extensive fall our, which includes opening dates with Alt-J and Bleachers, here. Dream can also be streamed via Spotify, here.

I still remember having to pick my jaw off the floor the very first time I found out about this collaboration. We’ve been ardent fans of Long Beach blues rockers Cold War Kids for a very long time, and we’ve been in love with Bishop Briggs and her phenomenal voice from the get go. So when So Tied Up was announced as a track off CWK’s latest album L.A. Divine, we celebrated the sonic blessing. Even before hearing the song, we knew that a combination of Nathan Willett’s trademark vocals and Bishop Briggs’ fire would be magnificent. So Tied Up has now received a riveting music video treatment shot in Los Angeles and fittingly noir. Nathan Willet explains that the song is about the tension and struggle of relationships. So Tied Up’s bluesy vehement rock is definitely intense and tumultuous, as well as incredibly infectious and exhilarating. Download/stream the song, here. Purchase, download, or stream L.A. Divine, here.

Despite our long standing love for Bishop Briggs, this one nearly slipped us by. Good thing I was meticulously trawling YouTube earlier and stumbled upon Hi-Lo (Hollow), which is yet another tense gripping display of both her fierce vocal chops and her music’s tendency to fuse alt rock with edgy electronica in a fresh innovative fashion. Hi-Lo (Hollow) seems to be a one off, since it isn’t lifted from Bishop Briggs’ self titled debut EP. If you’ve yet to check out said game changing EP, I suggest you get on it now. Purchase from iTunes, here.

Bishop Briggs is quickly attaining the sort of widespread attention we always knew the fierce alternative artist would. Not only does the rising Los Angeles based star have spectacular pipes that burns with the fire of ten thousand suns, but her visionary fusion of rock, soul, and trap is fresh and unique in a world where we’re inundated by artists and bands who sound too similar to one another. While every Bishop song has been explosively scintillating, Wild Horses still holds the crown as my favorite. We re-visit the sooty gnawing, bass bombastic spectacular as Bishop Briggs premieres a brand new video for the jagged song this week. The video, directed by Ramon Ayala, follows Bishop as she wanders around a Lynchian fever dream. As anything Lynchian must be, the video is cryptic and surreal, ominous and spellbinding. 2016 has already been a massive year for Bishop Briggs. I can’t wait to see how bright her light’s going to shine in 2017. Wild Horses is available as a single, here.

If the world were perfect, I would have shared this next one over the weekend instead of having to excruciatingly wait until tonight. But I was away for much of the past few days, so our journey into the dark heart of Bishop Brigg’s latest is egregiously delayed since its Friday reveal. The fast rising Los Angeles based starlet has proven herself fierce and compelling this past year. She strikes like hot iron again with Be Your Love, offering us her raw immaculate vocals in a turbulent sea of ominous smoldering trap soul and bluesy weathered alt pop. I’m still reeling from Bishop Briggs’ set at Live 105′s BFD back in June, and I’ve been hungry to see her again since. It’s as if she ignites a fire within with her music, and that fire must consume and continue consuming more of Bishop Brigg’s ravishing tunes.

Bishop Briggs’ passionate and fiery music has propelled her to the top tier of my artists to watch list this year, and there’s no doubt in my mind that she’s a personal favorite, too. I was elated when she made her television debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon a few short weeks ago, and I was spellbound by her powerful voice and magnificent stage presence at Live 105’s BFD earlier this summer. The Los Angeles based rising star released a new track on Friday, adding to her collection of stupendous tunes with Pray (Empty Gun). Unlike The Way I Do, Wild Horses, and River, Pray is a far more electronic offering, showing us a somewhat different side of this immensely talented artist. In fact, Pray (Empty Gun) is a slow whomping, steady marching trap pop ballad. Despite reining in some of the bombastic energy and reeling fervor we’ve grown accustomed to, Bishop Briggs still exudes ardent intensity on the taut gripping, grandly shimmering tune. Pray (Empty Gun) is available now from iTunes.
