I still remember having to pick my jaw off the floor the very first time I found out about this collaboration. We’ve been ardent fans of Long Beach blues rockers Cold War Kids for a very long time, and we’ve been in love with Bishop Briggs and her phenomenal voice from the get go. So when So Tied Up was announced as a track off CWK’s latest album L.A. Divine, we celebrated the sonic blessing. Even before hearing the song, we knew that a combination of Nathan Willett’s trademark vocals and Bishop Briggs’ fire would be magnificent. So Tied Up has now received a riveting music video treatment shot in Los Angeles and fittingly noir. Nathan Willet explains that the song is about the tension and struggle of relationships. So Tied Up’s bluesy vehement rock is definitely intense and tumultuous, as well as incredibly infectious and exhilarating. Download/stream the song, here. Purchase, download, or stream L.A. Divine, here.

I know a band as well established as Cold War Kids really doesn’t need any support from a little blog like us, but we’ve always been about sharing good music, and this fresh new taste from the band’s forthcoming album La Divine is far too good not to give it a bump and a shout. Plus, I’ve been such a devout, long time fan of the Long Beach rockers’ bluesy soulful rock that I can’t help but continue professing my love for them, especially if they keep sounding this fantastic. There’s no dearth of nostalgia in Restless, and the video with which it arrives perfectly encapsulates the human emotion flowing freely from the song. La Divine is shaping up to be yet another fabulous Cold War Kids album, plus it also includes So Tied Up (Los Felix Blvd) which features one of our faves, Bishop Briggs, on guest vocals. Pre-order the album, here, ahead of its April 7th release.

Some truly wonderful and unexpected collaborations surfaced in the music scene last week while I was running amok through the streets of Austin for SXSW, and one of my favorites is this song, the latest from Long Beach rockers Cold War Kids featuring Los Angeles’ Bishop Briggs. The moment I saw that the two had partnered up for the cut off Cold War Kids’ upcoming album La Divine, I could barely contain my excitement. So Tied Up (Los Feliz Blvd) comes by way of an acoustic video recorded live at Sonora Recorders in Los Feliz. It affords us a spectacular vantage point when it comes to Cold War Kids’ bluesy soulful delivery and Bishop Briggs’ ever intense and impassioned vocal prowess. This stripped down rendition of the song features an alternate arrangement with a string quartet and more prominent vocals by Bishop Briggs. We love them both, and we love this new song. Cold War Kids’ new album drops April 7th, pre-order, here.

If you love Cold War Kids as much as I do, then it’s likely you’ve already listened to their new single “Can We Hang On?”. If not, prepare for a generous helping of this Long Beach band’s signature bluesy soulful rock. The five piece waxes nostalgic yet hopeful on the single, one of Cold War Kids’ more introspectively strolling gems. “Can We Hang On?” comes accompanied by news of a new full length album. La Divine will arrive on April 7th via Capitol Records, and you can pre-order now, here. Watch the music video for the single below. I’m pretty sure we can “hang on” as long as we have Cold War Kids to keep us steady and strong. There’s a solidarity to be found in this song. With it, we feel less alone.

My heart fluttered with maniacal excitement when I first encountered news of new Cold War Kids. I’ve had quite a long love affair with these Long Beach rockers, whose sound draws heavily on post-punk, soul, and heartland blues. The trio sweep me away with yet another exhilarating dose of that recipe on Love Is Mystical, lifted from forthcoming album L.A. Divine, due out April 7th. The scratchy chugging, sooty electrifying anthem comes by way of a new music video, too. Stream Love Is Mystical via additional services or purchase the single from various outlets, here.

The single First might be my absolute favorite tune off Cold War Kids’ recent full length Hold My Home, which was another crowning achievement in their five album repertoire since 2006. From the very first moments I heard First last year, I was utterly in love. Signature Cold War Kids bluesy and post-punky indie rock lines the Long Beach rock band’s tune. Today, CWK released a video for the song, more than enough reason for me to visit it again. I briefly contemplated sharing, considering how swamped I am with amazing music to share. But then I hit the play button, and the rest is history.

For a band that’s been around for quite some time now and that has a very distinctive, signature sound, Cold War Kids have continued giving us spectacular songs, time and time again. While other bands might grow old and stale over the years, I’m only loving the Long Beach rockers ever more. Their new album Hold My Home comes out soon on October 21, and Hot Coals is their latest preview of the release. Like their other songs, it’s a driving, bluesy, post punk flavored tune. It may have only been a year and a half since last album Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, but I’m already so excited for a new CWK album. Listen to previously featured First, below, also off the new album, and likely one of their best ever.
