Another week, another fabulous new tune from Yumi Zouma to satiate our hunger for the New Zealand dream pop band’s sophomore album Willowbank. This time around, they’ve dropped off a far more electronic cut named Half Hour. It’s a bit like School Of Seven Bells gone minimalist with a touch of Au Revoir Simone, sleek and slender, cool and glassy. Half Hour comes with a music video featuring the four piece band posing in front of a simplistic wall. Willowbanks, which arrives on October 6th on Cascine, can be pre-ordered from iTunes, here, or on vinyl, here.

October 6th seems to be the biggest release date this fall, with tons of EPs and full lengths all arriving on that fateful day. Yumi Zouma’s sophomore album Willowbank is at the top of our most anticipated list, particularly after the New Zealand dream pop darlings keep revealing enthralling gems off the release. They return once again with Persephone, a wistful yet vibrant disco pop groover that evokes our love for bands like Mausi and Snakadaktal, but with a more gauzy dreamy, feathery light touch. I can’t help it. Every time a new Yumi Zouma song surfaces, I squeal with delight. The New Zealand dream pop and guitar pop darlings have been a favorite of ours for a long time, and we’re thrilled that they’re going to release a sophomore album named Willowbank come October 6th, just in time for my birthday. They’ll also be playing an intimate show at the Rickshaw Stop in October while on tour. Today, we get to swing around to the breezy charm of new album taste, Depths (Pt. 1), a bright and chipper, gauzy flushed number that kind of evokes Trails and Ways, with a light dusting of Hazel English. My heart skipped a beat earlier today when I saw that Yumi Zouma had announced a new set of shows that will bring the New Zealand dream pop darlings to intimate Rickshaw Stop in October. We’ve fallen in love, time and time again, with the band’s gossamer grooves and diaphanous pop over the past few years, and we were very much fond of Yumi Zouma’s debut album Yoncalla last year. True to new touring form, the band has returned with news of a sophomore album and its first single. Willowbank will be out on October 6th on Cascine. December is an aureate dose of dreamy sunshine and windswept nostalgia. I can’t help but picture a sunny winter’s day. The brilliant sun illuminates the bare branches of trees all around us as we take a cruise down a dusty road. Our beanies cling to our scalps and a warm contentment washes over us. Maybe you missed the news last month when we shared Yumi Zouma’s cover of Oasis’ She’s Electric and talked about their Oasis cover album arriving soon on Turntable Kitchen’s Sounds Delicious vinyl subscription series, but I sure hope you don’t overlook this brilliant new taste from the record. The New Zealand dream poppers give timeless classic Champagne Supernova a gorgeously gauzy synthpop makeover. Though we’re enveloped by its rich incandescence, the pellucid beauty found on Yumi Zouma’s exceptional cover houses an icy loneliness and a detached disphoria.
