Just as we expected when we first heard Billy Raffoul’s debut single Driver last year, this Canadian singer songwriter has been reigning in a heap of buzz with his gruff, endearing voice and his deeply emotive ballads. The fast rising musician just confirmed summer tour dates with NEEDTOBREATHE after having spent the past two years on the road sharing the stage with the likes of Kings of Leon, ZZ Ward, Mondo Cozmo, Judah & The Lion, and more. And he’s dropped a robust new alt strummer named I’m Not A Saint, a gravelly marching knockout with a whole lot of smoky wallop. Guess who he co-wrote I’m Not A Saint with? None other than pop sensation and songwriting genius Julia Michaels, who even lends some pristine backing vocals to the recording. Keep up with Billy Raffoul via his website, here

At first glance, you probably think this song named “Acoustic” is an acoustic rendering of a previously released song, as I initially did. Turns out, it’s a gorgeous new heartrender from Canadian singer songwriter and musician Billy Raffoul, who continues to melt us with his incredibly soulful and gravelly endearing voice on the intimate strummer. Acoustic is a song for those of you who miss early James Bay. It’s a Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, Foals, Jake Bugg) produced gem which also features collaborations with pop goddess of the hour Julia Michaels, as well as Justin Tranter. Acoustic’s video, which you can watch below, was directed by Frank Ockenfels, best known for his portraits of prominent celebrities like David Bowie, Angelina Jolie, Kurt Cobain, and Bill Muray, among others. Raffoul continues to work towards his forthcoming EP whilst on tour with ZZ Ward. Acoustic is available as a single, here.

Much buzzing Vermont based singer songwriter Noah Kahan just released his debut EP Hurt Somebody earlier today. I couldn’t wait to dive into it after swooning to the artist’s whiskey drenched vocals and heartfelt singles previously. I found myself glued to the five track EP as I swayed to his infectious indie rock and earthy pop on songs like Catastrophize, which again reminds me of a cross between James Bay’s pastoral charm and BANNERS’ melting sentimentality. The EP also features a new version of title track Hurt Somebody, with pop genius of the moment Julia Michaels on additional guest vocals. Stream the dulcet duet below. Noah Kahan’s Hurt Somebody EP is a must listen. You can stream/download the release, here.

Our favorite UK string luxuriant dance collective Clean Bandit united with songwriter-to-the-stars and fast rising pop superstar Julia Michaels on I Miss You last month. We haven’t been able to get enough of the heart melting, airy lithe song since. Re-visit the music video for I Miss You, here. Clean Bandit has since revealed some new renditions of the song, including a stunning acoustic version you can stream below, as well as a remix by Los Angeles duo BLVK JVCK. They gives the original a svelte graceful future trap makeover. Though just a sliver grittier than the original, BLVK JVCK’s beautiful remix stays true to the original’s weightless and sylphlike allure, rampant with tender sentiment. Grab their “ReVibe” from iTunes, here.

Ever since long time songwriter-to-the-stars Julia Michaels made her own debut with breakout hit singles, this Los Angeles based star in the making has begun popping up just about everywhere. Aside from her magnificent turn in the new remixed version of BloodPop® and Justin Bieber’s Friends, Julie Michaels has shown up on a much hyped collaboration with Clean Bandit, our favorite UK stringy orchestral dance purveyors. I Miss You is the perfect amalgamation of Julie Michaels’ fulgent vocals and Clean Bandit’s playful yet emotive, keys springy and string lithe production. And it comes with a great music video, too. Clean Bandit will be embarking on a massive 2018 North American tour, find out more, here.

We’re quite the BloodPop® fan, having fallen in love with the producer and musician’s bright and colorful music when he called himself Blood Diamonds. We’ll never tire of his work with Grimes, but he’s also worked wit hthe likes of Lady Gaga and Madonna in the past. We were pretty excited when he turned up with a collaboration with Justin Bieber named Friends, and now we’re even more enamored with friends due to this new version of the synth propulsive single that came to light last Friday. On additional vocals is pop sensation Julia Michaels, a seasoned and gifted songwriter to the stars herself whose been one of the biggest breakout artist this year. This absolutely rapturous new remix of Friends is available, here.

Julia Michaels’ meteoric rise since the arrival of that chart topping first single, Issues, has been nothing short of extraordinary. But then again, the charismatic Los Angeles artist’s rise was not unexpected, either. After all, Julia Michaels was writing smash hits for the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomax, Hailee Steinfeld, Gwen Stefany, Britney Spears, and more long before her solo career exploded with magnificent force. Last Friday, Julia Michaels’ released a mini-album named Nervous System, which you can stream in full, here. Alongside beloved singles like Issues and Uh Huh, Nervous System also includes this nimble pop gem, Just Do It. Its crisp snappiness and airy briskness recalls HAIM, but there’s also a playful effervescence to it that reminds me of Ryn Weaver. Julia Michael’s Nervous System mini-album is out on iTunes, here.

The meteoric rise of Julia Michaels ever since the Los Angeles singer songwriter released her debut single Issues should come as no big surprise. Issues is as infectious as pop tune as they come, plus the gifted artist is no stranger to crafting massive hits, having written for the likes of Justin Bieber, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Hailee Steinfeld, Selenz Gomez, and many more prior to focusing on her own solo career. She even performed Issues at the Billboard Music Awards just a few short weeks ago, which I gleefully made a point to catch in full during my quick fast forward through the ceremony while short on time. We’ve been waiting for Julia Michael’s sophomore single since we shared Issues earlier this year, and we’re elated to share Uh Huh with you on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Sassy sweet vocals, squishy strings, and an organic earthiness endow the song. Its acoustic charm is a far cry from Issues’ springy electro pop zest. It’s obvious Julia Michaels is a versatile star in the making. Uh Huh is available, here.

Los Angeles song maker Julia Michaels’ rise was certainly meteoric, considering she only had one single out prior to today. Issues blew up the scene with its infectious pop, which should come as no surprise if you knew that the singer songwriter has lent her skills to massive hits by the likes of Justin Bieber, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Hailee Steinfeld, Selena Gomez, and more. We’re more than glad she’s focused on her own career and we have her second single ready to share shortly, too. For now, let’s re-visit Issues by way of a lambent dance remix by melodic house producer Hibell. The crisp vivacious track necessitates an impromptu dance party, right here, right now. Grab it for free, here.
