Seeing the northern lights is high up on my personal bucket list. Though I have no plans to make my way northwards to gaze in wide eyed wonder at the phenomenon just yet, I’ll gladly take comfort and joy in this new song from Satin Jackets and the beautiful picture it paints with its nu-disco brushstrokes. The German dance duo has partnered up with UK songwriter/vocalist David Harks on Northern Lights to give us a sleek sashaying, funky prancing groover. Though it’s probably freezing up where we can see the northern lights, Satin Jackets and David Harks’ Northern Lights offers up plenty of warmth with its marimba impelled Balearic glow. If Empire Of The Sun went disco funk on us, it might sound like this smooth balm of a dance tune. You can snag the song, here.

David Harks ‘Obey’, inspired by the likes of The Knife and The 2 Bears, is a delicious tune. I love how bubbly and light it is, it’s like fizzling champagne tickling your person’s nose. This track has a glossy coproduction from Miguel of Royal Dust. I asked about the artwork since an inspiration is The 2 Bears, but the fact that it looks like a bear on acid is completely unintentional. Anyways, David remarks “Obey your calling in life, follow your heart and listen to your dreams”

It would seem that there’s an endless supply of soul pop singers out of the UK these days, but what David Hark gives us stands out from the pool of artists with its unique sound that blends modern production with some very retro sound. Illusion is the second, and in my opinion, the best so far, of four singles he’s releasing this summer. Both soothing and peppy, the soul pop track has a surprising and welcome dose of 60’s psychedelia. Revisit far synthier first single We below.

New on the map for me today is this UK artist by the name of David Harks. His latest single, We, is a gorgeous, weightless soul pop song with an irresistible chorus that’s deeply infectious and upbeat, yet so soothing and tender. In fact, there’s something about the vocals and the melody of the chorus that brings Miike Snow to mind, though far less dance oriented and synthy. Prior to We, David Harks was featured last year on Kitsuné Maison’s compilation album 15. They chose his song Sirens to showcase, a soulful, simmering pop number you can stream below, too.
