Outsider is a new on Warner Music’s roster. One listen to the Irishman’s debut EP more than justifies the major label signing. His music is larger than life, bigger than big, widescreen and panoramic, cathartic and sweeping. Case in point, stand out EP track Míol Mór Mara, which carries the stadium ready, synth rolling magnificence of acts like Bleachers, The Killers, and the great Bruce Springsteen, with the earthy fervency of The War On Drugs. The song features lyricism in both English and Gaeilge. The Dublin singer also saturates the song with lavish orchestral strings and a punk-influenced rhythm. Míol Mór Mara means “sea whales”, or literally ‘giant beasts of the sea’. Outsider himself seems to be a big fish in the alt scene to pay heed to.

I don’t recall how I stumbled upon music by an unsigned singer songwriter from the Sunshine Coast of Australia, but heads up kids, she’s one to watch. Taylor Payne doles out plenty of that sunshine on bright and propulsive alt pop song Outsider, which despite its radiance, hides some underlying moodiness. Outsider is wonderfully catchy, an earworm of fine quality lead by deeply magnetic vocals. Taylor Payne, who counts Florence + The Machine, Bastille, and Coldplay as influences, has been playing music since the age of four and writing since the age of seven. Her new single Outsider will be out December 30th on iTunes via The A&R.
