It looks to be a warm rest of the week here in the Bay. Not a cloud was in sight this morning on my way to work, and it was already a nice balmy 70 degrees at 9 A.M. Yet, it’s still not hot enough for me to feel like it’s summer just yet. We turn to Michael Brun for some island vibes as the producer gives OneRepublic’s Lift Me Up a luminous sort of “lift” with an irresistible remix. He practically takes us to his home of Haiti with the tropical dancehall treatment. Now, it feels like summer, even if just for a few brief minutes, thanks to this Kygo meets Mura Masa makeover that the gifted producer has given OneRepublic. His remix of Lift Me Up can be streamed on Spotify too, here.

Tim Myers has been a part of the music scene for quite some time now. In fact, he’s a founding member of ever popular band One Republic, co-writing songs and singing on their recordings. The singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has been very successful already in his years in the industry, but he currently pursuing his dream of a solo career. On January 27th, Tim releases his sophomore album The Year, a concept album with songs named after months, taking listeners through a relationship for the entire year. March’s track is a soaring folk tinged anthem named Hills To Climb, a glorious and magnificent tapestry of uplifting sound. Another cinematic, orchestral beauty off the album is April’s luminous It’s My Life, below.

Chill house remixes sure seem to be a big thing of the moment, and it’s obvious that talented producers can work wonders with folksy or alt rock and pop tunes. A few of my favorite producers that do amazing chill house remixes lately include Kygo and Thomas Jack, as well as oh so many others, but not to be forgotten is rising producer Lost Frequencies from Belgium. He first snagged my attention with his awesome remix of Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Snow, but his latest is another gem. Lost Frequencies remixed One Republic’s Counting Stars, and it’s a weightless delight. Revisit the RHCP remix after you enjoy Counting Stars.

Not long ago, I featured an up and coming Finnish producer by the name of Elaksi. I was immediately drawn to his atmospheric trap and bass music, since I’m keen on that sort of sound, if you hadn’t realized by now. Shining is his new track, and it’s another exhilarating future bass one with hypnotizing trap elements and some deliciously distorted sampling of OneRepublic.

DJ Earworm’s United State of Pop 2013

December 3, 2013

imageUmmmm. Happy New Year, guys?! Remember DJ Earworm used to release his annual tradition mashup a couple days before New Years? Seems he releases his mix earlier and earlier every year. It’s always fun to catch his mashup, though my fave United State of Pops were probably a couple of the earlier ones, sound wise and thematically. It’s still fun to catch all the tunes in the mix, especially the songs and/or artists that were featured on I Heart Moosiq over the past couple years that went on to much deserved and predicted huge success. You know… Lorde, Capital Cities, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, etc… Now, can someone do a World State of Pop 2013 or a UK State of Pop 2013?

A mashup of the 25 biggest hits during 2013 in the U.S.

Featuring:
Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc – Wake Me Up
Bruno Mars – When I Was Your Man
Capital Cities – Safe & Sound
Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky
Eminem feat. Rihanna – The Monster
Florida Georgia Line feat. Nelly – Cruise
Imagine Dragons – Radioactive
Imagine Dragons – Demons
Jay-Z feat. Justin Timberlake – Holy Grail
Justin Timberlake – Mirrors
Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z – Suit & Tie
Katy Perry – Roar
Lady Gaga – Applause
Lorde – Royals
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton – Can’t Hold Us
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz – Thrift Shop
Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball
Miley Cyrus – We Can’t Stop
OneRepublic – Counting Stars
P!nk feat. Nate Ruess – Just Give Me A Reason
Rihanna – Stay
Robin Thicke feat. Pharrell & T.I. – Blurred Lines
Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin – Don’t You Worry Child
Taylor Swift – I Knew You Were Trouble
Will.I.Am feat. Britney Spears – Scream And Shout

Today also marks a brand new single from ubiquitous pop sensation OneRepublic. The sultry tune is titled If I Lose Myself, and it’s always welcome to hear Ryan Tedder’s lovely voice. I like that it doesn’t sound like a gazillion other OneRepublic songs, which in my opinion, is sort of what happened to a lot of OneRepublic songs later on. Never fear, I still love them. This one has a bit of an electro influence with the upbeat synthpop sound. I’m sure the public will gobble it up, just as they always do with all of OneRepublic’s nowadays.
