DJ Earworm’s United State of Pop 2013

December 3, 2013

imageUmmmm. Happy New Year, guys?! Remember DJ Earworm used to release his annual tradition mashup a couple days before New Years? Seems he releases his mix earlier and earlier every year. It’s always fun to catch his mashup, though my fave United State of Pops were probably a couple of the earlier ones, sound wise and thematically. It’s still fun to catch all the tunes in the mix, especially the songs and/or artists that were featured on I Heart Moosiq over the past couple years that went on to much deserved and predicted huge success. You know… Lorde, Capital Cities, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, etc… Now, can someone do a World State of Pop 2013 or a UK State of Pop 2013?

A mashup of the 25 biggest hits during 2013 in the U.S.

Featuring:
Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc – Wake Me Up
Bruno Mars – When I Was Your Man
Capital Cities – Safe & Sound
Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky
Eminem feat. Rihanna – The Monster
Florida Georgia Line feat. Nelly – Cruise
Imagine Dragons – Radioactive
Imagine Dragons – Demons
Jay-Z feat. Justin Timberlake – Holy Grail
Justin Timberlake – Mirrors
Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z – Suit & Tie
Katy Perry – Roar
Lady Gaga – Applause
Lorde – Royals
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton – Can’t Hold Us
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz – Thrift Shop
Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball
Miley Cyrus – We Can’t Stop
OneRepublic – Counting Stars
P!nk feat. Nate Ruess – Just Give Me A Reason
Rihanna – Stay
Robin Thicke feat. Pharrell & T.I. – Blurred Lines
Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin – Don’t You Worry Child
Taylor Swift – I Knew You Were Trouble
Will.I.Am feat. Britney Spears – Scream And Shout

DJ Earworm Mashup – United State of Pop 2012 (Shine Brighter)

December 20, 2012

Here it is! I swear he releases it earlier and earlier every year. It used to be a day or two before NYE, no? I’ll probably add on some thoughts on this later. But for now…

A mashup of the 25 biggest hits during 2012 in the U.S.

Featuring:
Gotye and Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know
Fun. – Some Nights
Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe
Maroon 5 – One More Night
Fun. and Janelle Monáe – We Are Young
Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa – Payphone
Ellie Goulding – Lights
Rihanna – Diamonds
Bruno Mars – Locked Out Of Heaven
Ke$Ha – Die Young
Kelly Clarkson – Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)
Flo Rida – Good Feeling
Nicki Minaj – Starships
The Wanted – Glad You Came
Adele – Set Fire To The Rain
Lumineers – Ho Hey
One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful
Flo Rida and Sia – Wild Ones
Phillip Phillips – Home
Bruno Mars – It Will Rain
Katy Perry – Wide Awake
Alex Clare – Too Close
PSY – Gangnam Style
Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Flo Rida – Whistle

The most popular songs in the U.S., as determined by Billboard’s weekly Hot 100 charts.

EDIT: This one’s pretty good, folks. DJ Earworm did well. The last couple years I wasn’t as impressed, but the theme and lyrics work on this one is great. It’s not just party party dance dance like the last two years and goes back to the early ones before that. Remember, the point of his mashups isn’t just fun mashing, but to create a video/lyrics masterpiece. He lost a bit of that the last two end of year mixes. This Shine Brighter thing is pretty cool, bud.

DJ EARWORM 2011

December 27, 2011

I knew it was about time to check for DJ Earworm’s end of year mix!

Here it is, DJ Earworm’s epic mashup, United State of Pop 2011 (World Go Boom). I love how he always mixes the videos too. So, what do you think? Better than United State of Pop 2010 (which I thought was okay)? How about 2009 (which I thought was absolutely incredible)?

Remember, this is 100% an American perspective only. Enjoy!

Tracklist in alphabetical order based on artist names:

Adele – Rolling In The Deep
Adele – Someone Like You
Black Eyed Peas – Just Can’t Get Enough
Bruno Mars – Grenade
Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song
Britney Spears – Till The World Ends
Cee Lo Green – F* You
Enrique Iglesias – Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)
Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks
Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor
Jeremih feat. 50 cent – Down On Me
Katy Perry – Firework
Katy Perry – E.T.
Katy Perry – Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)
Lady Gaga – Born This Way
LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem
LMFAO – Sexy and I Know It
Lupe Fiasco – The Show Goes On
Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger
Nicki Minaj – Super Bass
OneRepublic – Good Life
Pink – Raise Your Glass
Pitbull – Give Me Everything
Rihanna – S&M
Rihanna – We Found Love

UPDATE: After a few listens, I believe 2009’s was still the best. While very fun and a great showcase, the 2011 mashup seems far less cohesive and far more messy. Outside of this mashup, I think it bespeaks something very good about the year in music in the US though… I believe the top pop songs of 2011 are actually much harder to all mashup together into a mix due to the variety of sounds and genres that were being put forth and embraced. It’s been a great year for music, no doubt.
