The other day, I was wondering when we’d hear from Capital Cities again. The Los Angeles based duo will always have a special place in my heart. Their breakout single Safe and Sound will be an endearing favorite for the rest of my life, and I associate it with so many cherished memories of dancing with friends at countless Capital Cities shows in the past. Just as I was wondering if we’d ever hear from the pair again, they unleash their glam disco and synthpop on us again by unveiling new single My Name Is Mars. It’s as groovalicious and funkalicious as we’d expect from the duo, who’ve also enlisted Los Angeles based rapper Sacha for additional classic West Coast vibes on the track. As usually happens, new music comes with new appearances. Capital Cities will be performing at a slew of festivals this summer. Follow them on their website, here, for updates. Download/stream My Name Is Mars, here.

Though it will forever be hard to top the vivacious funk and pop found on Capital Cities’ pervasive hit Safe and Sound, the Southern California indie outfit sure served up some wonky swaggering, glamorous whirling fun on excellent single Vowels last year. Montreal production whiz Robotaki takes us back to its high spirited world with a hot new electro remix. He infuses it with extra plump synths and juicy luscious French house hops. Robotaki says that Vowels was one of his favorite records this past summer. Hotel Garuda introduced him to the song, and he’s been hooked ever since. New original from Robotaki is on its way. For now, let’s celebrate by downloading his Capital Cities remix, here.

Los Angeles dance pop and disco funk project Capital Cities surprised us a few days ago with a fresh new EP named Swimming Pool Summer, just in time for our seasonal shenanigans. The EP’s title track, which is now accompanied by a simplistic visualizer, is a sexy swaggering, slick grooving summer bop with plenty of frisky trumpets, feisty strings, and glossy synths. Swimming Pool Summer is exactly what we’ve been missing from Sebu Simonian and Ryan Merchant this year. You can preview Capital Cities’ Swimming Pool Summer EP on Soundcloud, here. Download from major retailers, here.

We’ve been extremely loyal fans of Capital Cities for the past half decade, and we watched with so much pride when the Los Angeles based dance pop and disco funk project exploded onto everyone’s radars with long championed single Safe And Sound, one of the best tunes ever to dance to with your best buddies live. Sebu Simonian and Ryan Merchant continue to give us excellent reason to stay devout fans as they surprise us with a seasonal EP named Swimming Pool Summer, from which comes this balmy swaying, saccharine glowing treat, Girl Friday, featuring legendary rapper Rick Ross. It even comes with an endearing animated lyric video. Swimming Pool Summer is out now via iTunes, here.

J Motor, an Australian artist, remixes Luke Millon’s Jungle Daze. There’s an 80′s style funkadelic vibe to the catchy song. Kind of reminds me of Capital Cities I love the artwork of an elephant.

The Capital Cities train has been an incredibly fun ride for my friends and me. We obsessed over the Southern California band and their lavish uplifting funk pop from even before the birth of I Heart Moosiq, hitting up their intimate early shows at Popscene and elsewhere time and time again, dancing and singing along to Safe And Sound like the world were going to explode and we really kept ourselves safe and sound by becoming one with the band. Watching these dance pop troubadours blow up and achieve great success has been a fulfilling experience. It’s been three years since Capital Cities’ debut album In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery, and the band’s members have dabbled in their own solo and side projects in these past years. There’s nothing like a reunion of Sebu and Ryan, however. The two are back to give us their first new song in far too long, a whimsical infectious tune named Vowels. The song squishes and ripples, trumpets and jams, another opulent twirler of a pop banger. This time, Capital Cities brings some extra glamorous disco heat. I don’t think the vowels of the alphabet have ever been sexier. So how about it, Capital Cities? Do we get to dance to you live again soon? Purchase Vowels from various outlets, here.

We’re No Heroes want you to ‘Stay Weird’ with their funky dance anthem. The group from Cardiff, UK released their EP “Shivers” in 2014 and I’m wondering how I just heard of them. Thank goodness for the music gods parting the soundcloud machine and gifting me with this treat. It instantly made me think of Capital Cities ‘Kangaroo Court’. Let’s dance and Stay Weird

Jumping on early today for a piece of exciting news I’ve been sitting on and fidgeting to share. Ryan Merchant, one part of a certain band many of you probably love named Capital Cities, has formed a new side project with Capital Cities’ epic trumpeter Spencer Ludwig. The songwriting collaboration, History, has revealed their very first song, a chic, swank tune, also named History. To add icing to the sweet lavish cake, RAC, or André Anjos, turns in some signature, sumptuous indie dance co-production. History is a slick and glossy synthpop tune. It’s laced with a flushed dose of snazzy funky freshness, the same kind the world has come to identify with Capital Cities. However, History also oozes over with extravagant seductive smoothness in addition to plenty of Spencer’s commanding, luxuriant horns. The debut song is a free download now, via SoundCloud. For those of you who are huge Capital Cities fans, like I am, don’t worry. Capital Cities will begin work on album number two soon, despite Sebu and Ryan/Spencer’s side releases.

As a long time staunch supporter of Capital Cities, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and chatting up Sebu (while staring at his epic beard) many times over. You could say he’s my favorite awesome and friendly member of Capital Cities. Surprises of surprises, Sebu has re-hashed Warren G and Nate Dogg’s classic song Regulate! And he has his own Soundcloud account to display the tune. Does this mean more Sebu solo work on the way? I wonder… The new rendition of Regulate is, as expected of a Capital Cities member, a far more electronic and disco funkified version. It’s quite the bouncy, cheerful dance treat.
