Do you guys remember McCoy’s track from about 5 months ago where I thought it was Jay Z and Pharell? Well he’s back at it again with another track ‘Loosely Based on Women’. The upbeat production is laced with content about a ‘situationship’ and eventually gives way to an introspective look at why things haven’t become serious with his “friend”.

If I didn’t look I would have thought this was a Jay Z and Pharell track. Hailing from Uptown NY comes McCoy with his first single “GoodGirls”. McCoy’s ode to the classic girl from next girl will definitely be a dance hit in hip hop clubs. It’s going to be hard for me to take this off repeat. This song will be on his upcoming EP ‘Loosely Based on Women’ which will be available early 2016.

Covers seem to be the flavor of the month(s) these days, with the volume of tweaked, flipped, and rehashed covers of all sorts of songs by today’s rising talent growing at an accelerating rate with each passing day. Not that I’m complaining, of course. Take, for example, today’s ace new cover of the day, a electrifying rendition of Kane West and Jay-Z hit N**as in Paris by Miami’s Mark Johns. Lush and swank, In Paris it will envelope you in a warm pool of future bass and trap euphoria. Australia’s Sable is the culprit behind the entrancing, spacious production.

It’s been less than a week since I’ve shared Mountain Of Youth’s sexy, resplendent Thinkin’ Bout Love, which blended Jay-Z, The Night VI, and Frank Ocean together into one luscious treat, but the San Francisco Bay musician is back again, this time with a fantastic, grooving original named Tropical Fire. As the name foretells, the song is a summer vibe infused, upbeat gem, filled with soul and chillwave-y deep house flavors. I was just chatting with him over the ‘net the other day, and was delighted to learn that he’s practically my neighbor here in the bay. A neighbor that makes opulent, laid back house music like this track? That’s something to boast about! Revisit sultry, jazzy Thinkin’ Bout Love below.

I think San Francisco Bay musician Mountain Of Youth put it best, when he self described his gorgeous new tune Thinkin’ Bout Love as a “wet cocktail of chocolate noir vocals and luxury jazz stratospheres”. I don’t think I could have put it any better when attempting to describe this luscious cross of Frank Ocean, The Night VI, and Jay-Z. It’s a sparkling, perfect for late night gem that puts together some sounds I wouldn’t have thought would blend so well together. It’s swirling, smoky magic. If I had a fog machine at home, I’d turn it on right now while losing myself in this atmospheric, resplendent jam. If you’re unfamiliar with Mountain of Youth, make sure you check out his beautiful, gentle, but upbeat remix of Layla’s Smokestacks below, too.

Happy Friday, everyone! I need to run out the door earlier than usual today, but I have some great tunes for you, and I mean GREAT, like this brand new Disclosure remix. The UK duo re-worked Pharrell’s Jay-Z featuring Frontin’, and it’s as house sumptuous as we’d all expect from the red hot electronic act. Can’t go wrong with Disclosure! Ever! Friday dance party starts NOW!

Daft Punk feat. Jay-Z – Computerized

March 11, 2014

Of course, one of the biggest piece of music news to come out of today is this collaboration between the great helmeted duo Daft Punk and the one and only Jay-Z. There were rumors of a collaboration for some time now, but anything Daft Punk related must always be taken with a grain of salt and much careful apprehension. I mean, these are the dudes who play the trash fence at Burning Man every year, right? For every piece of Daft Punk music out there, or coming out, or barely out, we get a ton more fakes, loops, and questionable proclamations. I did some vetting and research throughout the day, and from everything I’ve gleaned off the internet, Computerized is indeed real. Supposedly, the track was created for Random Access Memories, but never made it on. Then again, there’s a very Tron Legacy soundtrack feel to this tune, so there are those who believe the song was recorded during the Tron days. After all, Jay-Z refers to his BLACKBERRY. In anycase, it’s real, but it’s moment of inception is much in question. Jay-Z and Daft Punk. Boom.
