I’m sure by now, the vast majority of you have already checked out Avicii’s long awaited new EP,

AVĪCI, his first release in two long and silent years. In case you haven’t, you’re going to want to take a gander. I streamed the five track record straightaway last Friday morning to find it full of guest talent and fine treats.

AVĪCI features the likes of Rita Ora, AlunaGeorge, Sandro Cavazza, and Vargas & Lagola. It also features Billy Raffoul, the charismatic 22 year old Canadian singer songwriter we’ve been extolling to no end since he made his debut with Driver a few months ago. It’s surefire vindication that his star continues to rise when he’s featured on a massive Avicii track like uplifting You Be Love, which you can stream above. Avicii offers up a dashing combination of chill melodic house and melodious progressive house. Turns out, it’s the perfect vessel for Billy Raffoul’s gravelly and earnest vocals. Head to master producer Avicii’s YouTube channel, here, to hear all the other immense tracks off his new EP. You can also purchase and stream

AVĪCI, here.

Italian producer Alessandro Mazzola links up with Daniel Josefson on a slow burner of a future bass ballad named Gonna Love Ya. The moving chillstep song, a cover of Avicii’s anthem of the same name, is out now on digital label Bird Watching. The duo’s re-imagining of the song is a melting heart render. They take Gonna Love Ya in a tender, atmospheric direction, far removed from the original chugging electro tune. This one will leave you wanting to call your bae over so you can gaze deep into each others’ eyes in fervent affection. Download the track for free, here.

Emerging producer KING CHAIN first snagged my attention several months ago with a slamming future bass, breakbeats, and trap debut named Losing Soul. The US based, Taiwan native sweeps me off my feet again by offering up a seismic trap remix of Avicii hit For A Better Day (featuring ever spellbinding vocals by Edward Sharpe’s Alex Ebert). Who knew that Alex Ebert, slamming bass, and playful snares would go together so well? Download KING CHAIN’s whomping remix for free, here.

Autograf is back with a thrilling remix sure to light your night on fire. For their latest, the trio from Chicago apply their summery house sound to Avicii’s Waiting For Love. The official remix gives the song a rich and deep bounce as well as a tropical radiance that glistens with a disco flavored shimmer. The remix is one of Autograf’s smoother offerings, a blissfully uplifting track that makes waiting for love a euphoric, hopeful experience.

Mau Kilauea is responsible for one of my favorite tropical house tracks of the year, a flawless update on graduation song favorite, Baz Luhrmann’s Wear Sunscreen. The British producer (yes, not Hawaiian) is now responsible for one of my favorite remixes of much edited Avicii tune Silhouettes, too. The remix is, of course, summery and balmy, but it’s also incredibly serene and plush. Mau Kilauea creates an epic sound, beautiful, relaxing, and breathtaking. These silhouettes are well worthy of the most epic sunsets on the loveliest tropical islands. Excuse me, I’m just going to gaze into that artwork for a moment and pretend I’m in a place like that…

Enough with the previous trap features (as if I could ever have enough trap). Time for some dirty disco, courtesy of Australian producer Throttle, who gives us his neon bright, funky fresh house take on superstar crooner of the hour Sam Smith’s sappy ballad Stay With Me. Throttle also did a sick official remix of Avicii’s You Make Me earlier this year, a tasty disco tinged electro house extravaganza.

This one’s been really making the rounds for the past several days, but it’s simply too exhilarating not to fit in for an opulent share. Coldplay’s A Sky Full Of Stars is obviously one of the hits of summer, with its glorious, uplifting swells and Avicii’s massive electronic production. If you thought it couldn’t get anymore natural high inducing than it already had potential to be, Hardwell, of SHM of course, has remixed the tune. Yep, get ready for a bonafide feel good banger, coming your way.

Pop Danthology 2013 – Mashup of 68 songs

December 4, 2013

After all the dark, heavy stuff, it’s not a bad idea to finish up for the moment with yet another bright, mellifluous end of year mix that’s making the rounds on the internet today. Earlier, I presented DJ Earworm’s United State of Pop 2013. Now, check out Pop Danthology 2013, which is a far more comprehensive take on the year, though there’s less focus placed on cutting and piece mealing the lyrics and footage to create a working dialogue. It’s a good, fun mix that includes songs that weren’t on the United State of Pop mix. It’s an alternative method of approaching end of year anthology mashups. Enjoy it! Oh yea, head over here for a free mp3 download of the mashup and the whopping song list for the piece. With all thse early December releases, any great pop tunes that come out later this month are out of luck, though I’m glad to see Naughty Boy’s La La La feat. Sam Smith made it on this one despite only dropping a few weeks gao. Again, there is a nice handful of I Heart Moosiq darlings that we’ve been digging for the past year or two or more that have made it big and onto these mashups. Hooray! And hey look, it’s that Ylvis song.
