A thick swirl of scuzzy thumping rock envelopes us as Tancred enthralls us with her latest single, Something Else. While her ex-bandmates from Now, Now are in the midst of their new album release and touring for the record, Jess Abbott is preparing to release a new album of her own named Nightstand on June 1st. And she’s going to hit the road with The Joy Formidable this fall. 2018 is turning out to be super sweet, considering all the bands and artists we love that have returned with new albums. Something Else fluctuates between raw frenetic and sweetly delicate. Its a bit like Best Coast gone more vociferous and vehement, with some Slothrust and a bit of Snail Mail surfacing in its crunchy riffs and glistering shimmers. Pre-order new album Nightstand, here.

Veteran indie rockers Now, Now are in the midst of a triumphant revival as of late, with a new album arriving next month. Former Now, Now guitarist Jess Abbott, who releases solo music under the name Tancred, is on the way to a fabulous year herself. Come June 1st, she’ll be releasing her new album Nightstand, and she just closed out a tour with Julien Baker. Queen Of New York is her latest dulcet chugging indie rock taste from that record, a swift reminder of why we’ve been in love with her 90s inflected, power-pop imbued rock for so long. It’s a rousing burst of contagious strumming, knurled pouncing verve, and it follows on excellent last single Reviews, which you can stream via YouTube below, too. Pre-order Tancred’s new album Nightstand, here.

It’s always a pleasant surprise to find out that music I’m digging comes from right here in the Bay. That’s exactly what happened earlier today when I encountered Bed Case, the latest single from San Francisco based Tancred, otherwise known as musician and songwriter Jess Abbott. Bed Case is a crunchy scuzzer, its aggressive power pop and riff heavy grunge rock cohesively electrifying and addictive. It’s also the latest single revealed from Tancred’s forthcoming third full length, Out Of The Garden, out April 1st via Polyvinyl Records.
