When I think of Sweden, I tend to remember the amazing electro-pop or folk pop that its residents have given us in the past. Busu, a rising artist from Stockholm, quickly subverts our expectations with his forward-thinking alt hip hop and rock. Roiling guitars and gritty “mumble rap” vocals (which are so in right now) endow his new single ‘Hate bein sober’, a brilliant take on Chief Keef’s Hate Being Sober, featuring 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa. It’s a languid drawling track that perked our ears immediately and had us urgently rifling through his past releases with much giddy excitement. You can stream more of Busu’s music on Soundcloud, here, but we’re tacking on ‘Please stay out of my personal space’ produced by Dj Haydn & Teo Sweden below, too, for another prime example of this guy’s talent. You can also watch Busu’s video for ‘Hate bein sober’ below. More original music will be arriving soon.

A music buddy of mine keyed me into this hot stuff earlier today, and it’s the perfect music to add to your light night bedroom playlist. Australia’s Nicole Millar and Zuri Akoko have teamed up for a series of incredible covers, giving a sensual electronic spin to these hits that turn them entirely on their heels. Stream Nicole & Zuri’s version of 21 Questions above, a gossamer, opulent haunter miles away from the 50 Cent original. You might recognize Nicole Millar from her guest stint on Peking Duk hit High, while Zuri Akoko offered up an intricate remix of Oscar Key Sung’s Holograms last year. Apparently, the two make a divine pairing and are obviously ones to watch. Head over to Zuri’s Soundcloud to listen to the duo’s other covers, including renditions of Shlomo’s Bo Peep and Mya’s Like Wo.

New Jersey’s Keith Bender returns with a contemporary re-working of 50 Cent’s party anthem In Da Club. The producer takes the hip hop club banger and transforms it into deep house groover, with plenty of jagged future-esque pulses and massive bounces. Honestly, like many other people, I was a little tired of the original after it was played everywhere, every minute, every day for years. My faith is renewed in the tune, thanks to this bumping, pumping, mad romping edit by Bender.

Los Angeles producer SNBRN’s latest track is a remix of Pretty Ricky’s Grind With Me, a blissful deep house edit of the tune. His summery version of the song even utilizes some vocals from 50 Cent’s Hate It Or Love It to accentuate the track. As we’ve been hearing lately, deep house, nu-disco, or even tropical house remixes of hip hop have become quite the ear pleasing thing of late, resulting in smooth fabrications with deep, grooving bass.

I’ve got a couple more for you before I’m allowing myself to take off, including this sweet remix of 50 Cent classic 21 Questions by Los Angeles’ SNBRN, who gave us that dope Ace of Base remix over a week ago with KLATCH. It’s a super playful and fun mix that blends nu-disco, tech house, and tropical, altogether into one funky fresh jam. Oh, and there’s some great horns, too.

Musical talent sure runs young these days, ranging from amazing artists like Lorde to brilliant young producers, like this one. Andrew Luce is only 16, but his trap flips are super fresh and filthy sweet. Check out his delicious flip of The Weeknd’s remix of Beyonce’s Drunk In Love. SO SICK. One of my favorite remixes of the day, for sure! Also, check out his new remix of 50 Cent’s Candy Shop below. I was a little cautious when I first tuned in, since Candy Shop is WAY overplayed at every party and club everywhere this past decade, but Andrew Luce’s remix gave it new life for me.

Huh…. So… there’s another version!

July 28, 2012

Remember when I shared Alicia Keys’ new song New Day, her first in awhile? And how it seemed very catchy, though more of a top 40 radio club hit, not too mind blowingly spectacular, very decent? Well, APPARENTLY, 50 cent just released an alternative version. It’s still called New Day, but now it features Dr Dre and Alicia Keys. That’s a helluva trifecta! I guess this one will blow up much faster than the original Alicia solo single. I must say, this version seems less polished, more dirty, more complex. I like it more. As for Alicia Keys, I’m waiting for her next heartbreakingly beautiful slow R&B jam where she really exercises those amazing vocal chords to the fullest. What a singer. What an artist.

Please note, I can’t guarantee all these work later in the day as the suits at Coachella will probably put the smack down on these uploads/shares.
