I was thrilled last week to find out that guitar pop darlings Sunflower Bean will be playing my favorite San Francisco indie club night, Popscene, come March 2nd. In fact, I was so excited that I already picked up my ticket for the show, even though it’s still so far from now. The band, arguably the Brooklyn scene’s favorite indie darlings this past year, have returned with a new single on Mom + Pop Records. I Was A Fool is more of their disarming and charming form of crunchy glistening lo-fi pop and sun-bleached indie rock. It all feels like a dreamy nostalgic blast from the past. Swiss producer Black Space is at it again. On his latest jam, he brings his blissful melodic house flavors to Tegan and Sara’s I Was A Fool, one of several personal favorites of mine off last year’s Heartthrob. The remix is the perfect cool tropical treat to nurse this nasty hangover I have after a crazy fun time last night catching fantastic shows by Royksopp and Robyn, then Autograf. Black Space even adds some extra vocals to the rendition, giving it even more balmy, summery vibe.

Om nom nom nom… That’s what came to mind the moment I hit play on French producer Monsieur Adi’s new remix of Tegan and Sara’s super catchy Heartthrob track I Was A Fool. The original is already such an infectious, endearing song that encapsulates heartbreak so perfectly. Monsieur Adi creates a more electric atmosphere and the next thing I know, I’m head bopping and dancing in my chair. Well played, sir, well played.

Those lyric videos are really getting complex and official video like. In particular, this brand new lyric video for Tegan and Sara’s great track I Was A Fool seems much more a music video than just a lyric video. I Was A Fool is off the twins’ stand out album Heartthrobs, which did not disappoint the many fans who waited a very long time for the album. I Was A Fool is only one of so many great songs off the release. It’s certainly one to listen to if you’ve gone through a recent breakup. It’s also one of many on the album that harken back to a retro new wave synthy pop ballad feel that I really dig.

I’m eagerly counting down the days till Tegan and Sara’s new album Heartthrob drops on January 29. Closer is probably one of the catchiest tracks in the indie machine these days. But wait! What’s this? They’ve placed another Heartthrob track up for us to stream, and it’s GREAT. I Was A Fool is the polar opposite of Closer. It’s a plush, beautiful, downtempo, and dreamy track. I love it.
