All of the covers on Tegan and Sara’s new album are amazing. Plus, The Con X: Covers, a celebration of the Canadian twins’ beloved 2007 album The Con, features an endless array of star talent we adore. Let’s take our time to dive into this beautiful cover of Dark Come Soon by who else, but our favorite Canadian pop artist Grimes and her friend and fellow edgy pop talent, HANA. Dark Come Soon gets a wispy fragile, dark emotive metamorphosis on the lissome haunting cover. The Con X: Covers is available, here, and it also features tracks by MUNA, Shura, Mykki Blanco, PVRIS, Ryan Adams, Bleachers, CHVRCHES, and many, many more. All proceeds from The Con X: Covers benefit The Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for health, economic justice, and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.

There’s no denying the fact that Canadian twins Tegan and Sara have had a huge effect on many of our favorite artists today. To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of their quintessential album The Con, they’ll be dropping a release named The Con X: Covers featuring a long list of incredible artists covering its songs. Scottish electropop outfit CHVRCHES contributed a beautiful rendition of Call It Off, and the track has surfaced today. Their Call It Off drifts dreamily, offering us a rare glimpse of a more floaty, airy CHVRCHES. You can pre-order The Con X: Covers, here. All proceeds from the album will benefit the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for economic justice, health, and representation for LGBTQ girls & women. The Con X: Covers will also feature covers by the likes of MUNA, Shura, PVRIS, Ryan Adams, Bleachers, and many, many more. It arrives on October 20th.

In case you were hiding under a rock and missed the massive news recently, beloved Canadian twins and indie mainstays Tegan and Sara have been releasing some sensationally catchy new tunes from a new full length arriving this summer. They’ve followed up on prior gems Boyfriend and U-Turn with a more melancholic treat named 100x, for which they’ve revealed an epic music video. All these sad puppy dog eyes brilliantly add to the bittersweet sentiment of the tenderly aching song. As much as I love Boyfriend and U-Turn, my heart always gravitates towards the dark and the morose. 100x tugs at these heart strings, hard. New album Love You To Death drops June 3rd on Warner. Pre-orders are available from Tegan and Sara’s website or from iTunes.

Those delightful Canadian Quin twins, Tegan and Sara, seem to be featured left and right on so many awesome songs this past year. Add to that list this new hooking electronic tune, Make Things Right, from fellow Canadian production act Sultan + Shepard. I do believe this is the first original I’ve shared from the producers, though I’ve gleefully shared some killer remixes by them in the past. Make Things Right is an uplifting, feel good, and optimistic progressive house jam, everything you want in such a massive EDM anthem. And Tegan and Sara always makes things right. The banging tune will be out March 13th on Spinnin’.

Canadian twin sisters Tegan and Sara take a vacation to the tropics. Okay, not really, but Matoma pretty much paints that pretty picture with his lush official remix of the Quin twins’ I Can’t Take It. Whatever magical hokey pokey in those producer growing Norwegian waters has given him the ability to infuse music with melodic, summery bliss, and he carries out that wizardry on the new edit in spades.

I’ve shared some great originals from D.C. producer Royal in the last few months, but now we get to enjoy his remix skills on an official refix of Canadian twins Tegan and Sara’s So Jealous. It’s a booming chill trap edit with plenty of intoxicating, swelling synths. It’s not often we hear Tegan and Sara in such a shimmering, wonky, and skittering manner. It fits their vocals splendidly.

This song more than kind of rules, so now that there’s a video featuring footage of Night Terrors of 1927 and track guests Tegan and Sara, we’re going to watch and listen again. The Los Angeles band really crafted a catchy, anthemic hit in When You Were Mine, and enlisting Canadian twins Tegan and Sara for massive guest vocals? Genius! It nearly beats out Night Terrors’ Dust and Bones as my top favorite song from them. Almost. When You Were Mine is on Night Terrors of 1927’s Anything To Anyone EP, but it will also be on their new full length, Everything’s Coming Up Roses, when it comes out on January 20 via Atlantic Records.

Guess which two wonderful acts have collaborated on a song? None other than Canadian twins Tegan and Sara and Los Angeles’ Night Terrors of 1927, two acts I’m quite fond of, so I’m elated to share their new song When You Were Mine. I’ve been a fan of Night Terrors ever since I heard their song Dust and Bones. As for Tegan and Sara, well… need I say anything? It’s Tegan and Sara! The catchy alt pop song is on Night Terror of 1927’s new EP Anything to Anyone, out today.

SOAK covers Tegan and Sara’s Back In Your Head

June 9, 2014

Irish singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist SOAK, who first stormed onto my radar with her beautiful debut song Blud, has been touring supporting Canadian duo Tegan and Sara. From the very first time I heard Blud, I could tell there was something brilliant about SOAK and her folk pop style. She was the first artist signed to CHVRCHES’ Goodbye Records earlier this year, and for good reason at that. I compared her sound to Lykke Li, Cat Power, and even Tegan and Sara back when I featured Blud. To commemorate her tour with Tegan and Sara, Soak posted this amazing cover of the twins’ song Back In Your Head on YouTube. I searched high and low for a SoundCloud stream, and may have to reshare this when there is one. The cover sent shivers and chills up and down my spine the whole way through. Incredible.
