Brooke Candy, whom I oft associate with fellow pop phenom Charli XCX due to their fabulous collaborations together in the past, takes no prisoners with her latest unbridled song, WAR. The edgy and imaginative LA-based singer songwriter heralds in a new pop-punk direction on the politically charged song which fuses elements of thrash and hardcore with
gritty sharp hooks and a bloodthirsty rejection of the status quo. The vehemence of WAR’s raucous grunge pop rivals that of Sleigh Bells’ strident offerings, paired with the jarring edginess of M.I.A.’s hip hop. “‘WAR’ speaks to what is happening on planet earth – how the political and cultural landscapes are so unfair,” says Brooke on the track. “It’s an anthem to wake people up and seek aggressive change in the world; to protest and shake things up.” We love how much Brooke Candy shakes us up with WAR, which can be found on iTunes, here.
New Charli XCX video today for Cloud Aura featuring Brooke Candy. The song is off her excellent recent mixtape SUPER ULTRA which you can still download for free from her website. It’s a fun, catchy piece of grimy dark pop and hip hop. The whole mixtape is pretty good, but Cloud Aura, while good, doesn’t stand out as much as some of the other tracks, some of which sample some awesome tunes. Go check it out if you haven’t yet. I still like this though!

What a great day it is. All Hallow’s Eve brings all these goodies from some of our favorite dark pop gothy acts. There’s no darker, creepier, gothier day than today. UK goth pop songstress Charli XCX released a new song today as promised. It’s off her new Super Ultra mixtape which will be available on November 7th (via her website at charlixcxmusic.com). The new song Cloud Aura features Brooke Candy. It’s some distorted future pop featuring rap vocals from Ms. Candy. I can’t say it’s my all time favorite Charli XCX tune, but it’s still a very tasty treat and not a trick. I’m pretty sure it’ll grow on me way more with repeat listens. It already has by the end of the song. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the Super Ultra mixtape.
