Brooke Candy, whom I oft associate with fellow pop phenom Charli XCX due to their fabulous collaborations together in the past, takes no prisoners with her latest unbridled song, WAR. The edgy and imaginative LA-based singer songwriter heralds in a new pop-punk direction on the politically charged song which fuses elements of thrash and hardcore with

gritty sharp hooks and a bloodthirsty rejection of the status quo. The vehemence of WAR’s raucous grunge pop rivals that of Sleigh Bells’ strident offerings, paired with the jarring edginess of M.I.A.’s hip hop. “‘WAR’ speaks to what is happening on planet earth – how the political and cultural landscapes are so unfair,” says Brooke on the track. “It’s an anthem to wake people up and seek aggressive change in the world; to protest and shake things up.” We love how much Brooke Candy shakes us up with WAR, which can be found on iTunes, here.

MUTEMATH are well on their way to releasing their fifth studio album Play Dead after having given us one of my favorite 2015 albums, Vitals, as well as an immense remix album named Changes last year. The ever experimenting and unpredictable Big Easy rockers take us on a vociferous ode to chaos and pandemonium with new album taster War. Crashing cymbals and a tightly wound mixture of progressive rock, spacey psychedelia, and bluesy electro rock takes us on a dynamic joyride. Paul Meany’s buttery voice is a gripping contrast to the song’s grittiness. War is a poignant depiction of the struggles happening in today’s America. Though its been a fan favorite during the band’s sets, its release as an official single can’t be timed better. You can find out more about how to pre-order Play Dead ahead of its September 8th release date, here.

I’ve been addicted to Yoodoo Park and his brother’s project GRMLN for quite some time. They always take me back to prior decades with their scuzzy rock and fuzzy power pop. War is yet another glorious throwback jam. This time around, GRMLN gives us a jaunty jam with a bit of crunchy Brit pop flare that even evokes The Strokes. The Southern California based duo will be releasing a new EP entitled Discovery this Friday, and punchy buoyant War is a superb preview that kindles much excitement for the release. Discovery can be pre-ordered now from Bandcamp.

If you recall, Chrome Sparks was once a duo, at least, they were a few years ago, when I first caught them live at Mezzanine in San Francisco. Chrome Sparks is now a solo act. So, what happened to the other guy, you ask? Jesse Brickel, a classically trained percussionist, has been quite busy with his own solo project, named Young Yeller. War is one of his stand out tracks off a self-titled debut album, filled with spacious, echoing pensiveness and intricate, woozy synthpop production. Today, Young Yeller released a video for another track off his LP, the brighter and more dreamy 1st Love, a song filled with such saccharine yearning. Stream the track below, or watch the new video.

In a trifecta of awesomeness, duo Jack Beats released another tune, War, off his coming album OWSLA. This time, the track features Diplo and Example! That’s a sweet mix. Example always somewhat remind me of Pendulum. Diplo’s production, Jack Beats’ music, Example on vocals…. yep, a great combo!

OFFICIAL VID: Tyler, The Creator & Domo Genesis – Sam Is Dead

June 29, 2012

Directed by Tyler under his Wolf Haley alias, the video for Sam Is Dead off the OF Vol 2 mixtape starts like it’s right out of a Kubrickian war film or Apocalypse Now. Many of their fellow members of OFWGKTA participate in the film. The syrupy, slow hip hop track is hypnotizing. It’s definitely brilliant, but not always my cup of tea. Either way, mad propz for the song AND the video.

This is awesome and oh soooooooo noisy and dirty. I had to find an mp3 to share with you guys. The song is Brodermordet by War, a Danish punk band whose members include Iceage frontman Elias Bender Rønnenfelt. The lo-fi track is a B-side on a 7" double A-side. And it’s some good, innovative stuff.
