Today’s a very special day. Not only is it one of my favorite ghoulish holidays, Halloween, but a surprise new Gorillaz track has surfaced, too! Garage Palace features hip hop sensation Little Simz on guest vocals, and it comes with an awesome animated music video in which she fights zombies alongside the band. The track comes off of the deluxe vinyl release of Humanz, due out as a “Super Deluxe Vinyl Boxset” on November 3rd. Pre-order, here. Garage Palace is available, here.

Thom Alt-J remix of Phantogram’s Never Going Home (for The Walking Dead soundtrack)

July 24, 2014

I’m still finalizing today’s lineup of features, but again, taking a moment to share something wicked (literally). For fans of The Walking Dead, like me, this comes as no surprise, since you likely noticed this playing in the background while getting your fix of zombies last season (the fourth). They’ve released Songs of Survival Vol. 2, and with it, comes this really sick, ominous remix of Phantogram’s Never Going Home by Thom of Alt-J. Pure magic. Black magic.

OFFICIAL VID: HEALTH – Tears

November 1, 2012

There’s no shortage of creepy videos, particularly ones that feature kids and zombies.  This one, however, features both at the same time. Los Angeles indie experimental noise rockers HEALTH released a treat for Halloween in the form of Tears. The accompanying short film is by David Altobelli and Jeff Desom, and yes, get ready for toddler zombies. Frightened, yet? I was supposed to see HEALTH open for Crystal Castles last week, but they cancelled their support of the tour right beforehand. How disappointing. At least we have this scuzzy sinister new video! Tears is actually off of the Max Payne 3 video game soundtrack, which was created by HEALTH.

Zombie Hands

October 31, 2012

They re-release it every year, but here it is again, The Killers’ creepy Zombie Hands. It would be cool if they did a new song every year like they do for Christmas, but it’s still a wonderful piece to fit the spirit of the day. Plus, a ghoulish Brandon Flowers is kinda adorable, don’t ya think?

OFFICIAL VID: Sufjan Stevens – Mr. FROSTY MAN

October 25, 2012

Even Sufjan Stevens is jumping on the horror bandwagon these days. As some of you know, the genius musician has been previewing tunes off an upcoming Christmas box set titled Silver & Gold. Here’s his claymation video for Mr. FROSTY MAN. There’s nothing vanilla about it. He dives right into that popular zombie fray, but this time, even jolly ol’ Santa becomes a zombie. The song itself is a short, jangly, anti-folkish tune. I can’t say I’ve loved all the Christmas previews so far, but I can say they’ve been unique and entertaining. Silver and Gold: Songs for Christmas drops on November 13, right before the holiday season really kicks into gear with Thanksgiving just around the bend.

Looking forward to K.Flay

September 17, 2011

Gonna catch K.Flay live tonight at Popscene (San Francisco, Rickshaw Stop)! Excited. Also gonna catch Teddybears (DJ set) and maybe part of TIGERcat’s set depending what time I’m able to arrive. But most of all, I’m going for K.Flay! Shared some of the rising producer/rapper/singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist/____(fill in blank)’s work before, here’s some more of her work (first couple are collaborations with others). Yeaaaa buddy.

And here she with a very interesting cover of Zombies’ Time of the Season:

And still my fave so far:

I don’t watch True Blood though I know I should…

So I just found out about this awesome cover of the Zombie’s She’s Not There by Neko Case and Nick Cave which is on the upcoming True Blood soundtrack. And boy is this a great cover of a classic! So dark and gritty. Love it!
