A few weeks ago, we got to listen to the first CEO track in quite some time. WHOREHOUSE was quite the experimental and intricate mix of electronic sounds. My Liquor is the accompanying track to WHOREHOUSE. In fact, it’s a cover/remix. The Swedish artist created his own woozy take of Kanye’s Hold My Liquor. It’s mind-bendingly trippy and far out there. I wonder what Yeezy thinks about this brilliant take on his song.

For those that feel like Yeezy’s Bound 2 is good but almost brilliant, this is the remix that might cross that line for you. Cookin’ Soul is a production duo from Spain, and they’ve remixed Kanye West’s Bound 2 for us. The timing seems more in sync, the beats drop harder, the song seems bolder. The original is infectiously good too, no doubt about that. As for the video… well, I’m not really feeling it, bro. But hey, good for you and Kim.

Super Cool Covers

September 10, 2013

Greetings on a busy day, but hello, here I am! Let’s begin with a covers post, because there’s a handful of super cool ones that popped up on the internetz. New Zealand star Lorde did an impressive cover of Yeezy’s Hold My Liquor live. Watch the decent quality live clip below. Next, popular UK band Bastille covered the love it or hate it Miley Cyrus song We Can’t Stop. Their version is totally different from the original and a very interesting rendition with beautiful strings and Dan’s amazing voice. They also mix in snippets of some surprise tunes. It’s not just a cover. You’ll see what I mean, wink wink. Finally, check out psych rock outfit Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s cover of Dirty Projectors’ Swing Low Magellan. It’s gorgeous.

Angel Haze “got bored” and laid some freestyle flow over Yeezy’s New Slaves. Pshh. I wish I were this creative and lyrically talented when I’m bored. It’s a sick, fierce track from the buzzing New York rapper that covers a myriad of topics. As if Yeezy’s song couldn’t be more dramatic and intense.

What the FREAK? What do you get when you mix my beloved psych rockers Portugal. the Man with some hip hop legends? Portugal, The Man & Friends! Producer Terry Urban took samples off of Portugal. the Man’s great recent album Evil Friends and mixed it up with the likes of Biggie, Hov, Yeezy, and Cole. Stream the full five track mashup album above. Pretty dang cool.

There sure are a lot of mashups surfacing with the release of Yeezus, and ya gotta admit, some of them work pretty well. This might be one of my favorites to see the light of day so far! Washington, D.C. producer Nate Belasco mashed up Black Skinhead with psych rockers Tame Impala’s brilliant Elephant. And it works wonderfully, more so, in my opinion, than some of the Personal Yeezus (Depeche Mode) mashups that have come around. There was something glaringly obvious about matching Personal Jesus with Yeezy. This one, not so obvious. Well done!
