If you follow new music closely like we do here at IHM, then you probably know that there’s a ground breaking hip hop and trap movement in China right now that’s been so monumental that even authorities have been cracking down on it, banning tattoos and hip hop culture from television. One of our favorites at the forefront of this movement is Higher Brothers, and it is truly our belief that some of the best new hip hop is coming out of Asia right now. The group of gifted emcees, who’ve often collaborated with other rising stars from the Asian and Asian-American scene in the past, are absolutely riveting when they’re delivering their hard punching trap rap. Even though I’m thoroughly fluent in Mandarin, you can imagine how hard it is to catch every word in a rapid-fire lyrical flow when it’s delivered with the scathing bite and electrifying barbs of a project that takes after the likes of Migos and other American trap artists. I can’t wait to catch Higher Brothers when I hit Austin for SXSW in March, and I’m loving the High Brothers remixes that are starting to surface. Raise those trap hands and get ready to get down to this fresh remix of Higher Brothers’ wildly infectious Made In China by trap and bass maestro Y2K. It’s wonderfully filthy and gritty, jarring and needling. I’m sure Higher Brothers really appreciates this wicked take on their track, it’s right up their alley. Y2K’s mind jogging remix is a free download, here.

One of Josh Pan’s latest phenomenal tracks is named Selfish, but really, there’s nothing selfish about it at all. Not only has the New Yorker generously graced us with a riveting spectacular, but he also shared the creative process with an impressive list of production talent, including Judge, Y2K, and Dylan Brady. The dusky brooding alt electronic track, which he’s also tagged as “ghostrock”, is a haunting yet electrifying affair. Moody beats, gossamer vocals, simmering guitars, and atmospheric synths wrap around each other in a dance of aching passion. It’s a gut punch of a song, an exploration of your own inadequacies and inner demons, both bitter and stirring. In Josh Pan’s case, agony leads to ecstasy. Selfish is available at iTunes, here.

Earlier this month, hotly tipped Los Angeles based artist HARLŒ linked up with Chicago’s Dreezy on a new version of her debut single All In My Feelings. The new hip hop emphatic rendition felt bolder and grittier than the dreamier, more celestial future R&B original. Turns out, this new version of All In My Feelings is the perfect specimen for some dexterous BAYNK tweaking. The New Zealand producer, one of our favorite rising electronic talents, gives All In My Feelings a luxuriant rippling, lustrous shimmering, and opulent quivering future treatment. This isn’t “all in my feelings”, it’s “all the feelings”. BAYNK’s remix is part of the All In My Feelings Remix EP, out now. The release also features an effervescent chill trap and flickering future bass remix by Y2K, which you can listen to below. Snag the remix EP on iTunes, here. Alternate stream of BAYNK’s wicked edit available via Soundcloud below.

Hudson Mohawke’s Chimes was one of the best songs of 2015, a magnificent and operatic instrumental trap masterpiece that the world heard many times over, thanks to a much deserved feature on a MacBook television advert. Normally, something as epic as Chimes is probably best left untouched in all its prestigious glory, but a new flip by Alexander Lewis and Y2K shows us exactly how amazing a well forged, brilliantly thought out edit can be. The producers link up to give Chimes a makeover that, ironically enough, is less “chime-y” but more orchestral regal, utilizing additional piano chords, strings, and more to make this an even more majestic and triumphant march, a resolute Blue Danube of  trap, if you will. Download Alexander Lewis and Y2K’s magnificent re-imagination of Chimes from Toneden.

As if producer Y2K and LA based hip hop artist lil aaron’s collaborative track DAMN isn’t already an envelope pushing, ground breaking future hip hop achievement in itself, we now get the added pleasure of enjoying a new re-imagination of the track by France’s Kulkid and Arizona’s Honest. The two production acts join forces to create a new impeccable “vision” of DAMN so infectious it’s more than ready to be a summer dance anthem. The atmospheric deep house remix trumpets and chops, jabs and bounces in a ZHU meets Maya Jane Cole like manner. Grab Honest and Kulkid’s official remix of DAMN for free, here.

I’m not sure if “future hip hop” has been coined just yet, but DAMN, a collaborative effort between producer Y2K and Los Angeles hip hop artist lil aaron certainly seems to necessitate the creation of such a fusion term. Together, they deliver a hip hop and R&B track that pits crisp beats and booming bass against slick strings and tender keys. DAMN is an intense and tumultuous song, as rousing as it is hypnotic. It leaves me ravenous for more songs from these two’s combined prowess, and I can only hope that they might be making more new music together.

I only encountered Arizona’s Y//2//K half a year ago, but I’m incredibly grateful I did, because the producer offers up some fresh tracks that stand out from the pack. On his latest tune, he enlisted his buddy ronaldreagen, a producer from Los Angeles, to craft an out of the box remix of Kanye West classic Love Lockdown. Sure, it’s a song that’s been remixed and covered by half the world, with one of my favorite live covers coming from Glass Animals, but this

deep, snapping

future house and future bass rendition shoots right to the top of that long list. The original is already a dramatic piece, I mean, come on, it’s Yeezus. But Y//2//K and ronaldreagen transforms it into a steely, jagged monster of an intense track. It’s a far cry from some of the atmospheric, chill trap music I encountered on Y//2//K’s Soundcloud previously, demonstrating the rising producer’s versatility. I would guess that most people would recognize the song this track samples right from the get go. I mean, who doesn’t love melting, beautiful Funeral, by Band Of Horses, right? Turns out there’s a new version of the tune in music town, and it’s a helluva haunting listen. Two young up and coming producers out of Arizona, one named Y//2//K and the other, Honest, teamed up to create this atmospheric, feathery rendition of the hit. It’s a chill trap experience with plenty of subtlety and enchantment. The impressive, gorgeous song had me delving further into Y//2//K’s repertoire, and I encountered his song White Wine, which features Mark Johns. Listen to the sparkling future bass and trap tune below.

Southern California R&B pop songstress LIZ is about to drop her new EP Just Like You come February 27 on Mad Decent. She first caught my attention on Ryan Hemsoworth’s tune Day N’ Nite, but she’s made quite a fantastic solo impression since then. Y2K is our first taster off the new EP, and it’s a dizzying, bubbly song with her soulful R&B vocals and some hypnotizing, hip hop flavored electronic production.
