It’s a grandiose landscape that welcomes our ears from the very first bars of Honest, the latest spectacular tune from Brooklyn’s Xan Young. You could say I’ve grown accustomed to his bold soundscapes and resonant electropop this past year, yet I find myself absolutely floored by Honest’s majestic torrent of booming beats and spongy intoxicating synths just the same, not to speak of Xan Young’s buttery soulful crooning, too. Xan Young’s visionary composition fuses trap like vibrancy with funk tinged R&B and soul in a resoundingly creative manner. Make sure you check out Xan Young’s growing repertoire on Soundcloud if you’ve missed our prior features.

Xan Young manages to forge a deep rapport with listeners from the very beginning on Change. With a silken voice, he sings about the improbability of digging himself out of a mess, and his despair is so palpable that we can only empathize with him as our own memories of past heartaches bubble to the surface. The Brooklyn musician’s pulsating, glistening combination of R&B, soul, and electropop is glossy smooth yet it closes out with such arched, curvaceous vibrancy. If anyone can dig us out of a despondent hole, it’s Xan Young and his lavish new gem.

It’s been a year since we first introduced IHM followers to Brooklyn’s Xan Young, and his latest song, Tomorrow, leaves me as excited about this emerging artist as I was after that first encounter. Tomorrow’s glitchy propulsive soundscape feels Phantogram like, but it’s paired up with a melting smooth array of R&B, soul, pop, and electronic elements. Sweet swooning vocals add to Tomorrow’s lush vibrant allure. Tomorrow leaves me eager for what adventures await in the future, especially when soundtracked by Xan Young.

Brooklyner Xan Young takes my breath away all over again with the indie electro artist’s new song, Fade Away, a propulsive burst of crisp and crunchy synths, alongside buttery cooing and debonair drum work. The richly mesmerizing song simmers coolly, its funk and dramatics evoking both SOHN and Ben Khan. It’s yet another ace tune from the talented emerging act.

I promptly shared this one with you the moment I heard it several months back, but today’s new video prompts me to hop on with another share of Xan Young’s Passion. Passion is the Brooklyn act’s debut single, and its dazzling texture and butter vocals quickly captured my Ben Khan and Caribou loving heart. Minimalist wobbles, bold percussion, and bluesy electro funk make Passion a flushed thriller. Xan Young is a project created by Matt Young, whom some might recognize from Body Language. The video matches the song in sparse tenseness. Passion comes from Xan Young’s debut EP, out now on Astro Nautico. Purchase the two track release on iTunes.

You know I’m a sucker for hauntingly textured soundscapes, and new Brooklyn artist Xan Young has a masterful, adept grip on crafting exactly that sort of riveting, stirring atmosphere, as demonstrated on the newcomer’s aptly named debut, Passion. The song is a seductively sultry electronic soul jam. Minimalist but bold drum work pairs with a Ben Khan meets Caribou like swooning, bluesy funk tinged electronic soundscape, while Xan Young’s velvety vocals cut through the air with gloriously swooning heat. The terrific new act will be releasing his debut record, The Floor, in August via Astro Nautico. I can’t wait to hear more.
