Much buzzing Swedish indie duo Wy returned recently with yet another fine offering in the form of You + I, offering up one of their most punchiest yet still delicate pop ballads to date. Their guitar laden ethereal pop has evoked the likes of The xx and WET in the past, but this time around, their infectious new song also reminds me a little of Zola Jesus with its heavier beat. There’s a heart wrenching poignancy and anxious restlessness to You + I, all delivered with such fervent beauty and earnest charm. The pair say of You + I:

“It’s one of two love songs on the album. I usually have a hard time writing love songs, but I wanted to write about what it’s like being a couple when both of you struggle with social anxiety. It’s about being uncomfortable around every person except one, and being each others safety zone.” You + I is out now on Hybris/Better Call Rob. Find it on iTunes, here.

Prepare to dissolve into feathery synths, airy crisp vocals, and melancholic guitar strums as Swedish duo Wy return with a brilliant new single named What Would I Ever Do. The song is equal parts willowy enchanting and sorrowfully melting, like an extra poignant, more gossamer serving of WET blended with The xx’s organic guitar and Låpsley haunting loops. What Would I Ever Do arrives ahead of the pair’s debut album, expected to be released this fall. It also comes with a music video, which you can view below. The single is about “….letting go of trying to be something that you are not. Realising that you’ve tried to be so many people in your past and none of them felt like yourself, so you just said ‘fuck it’ and stopped trying so hard.”

Swedish duo Wy just released a debut EP, and I’m infinitely glad that the news has fallen upon my grateful ears. The EP’s title track is a sensationally sprawling and beautifully charged piece that hits just about every emotion in the spectrum. Nobody Else, though vastly atmospheric, is also brittle and delicate. In its cavernous belly lies touching vulnerability and sadness, but its astonishing wings are made of gilded feathers so brilliant they’ll take your very breath away. This gazey alt pop song is a grand sweeping opus. It lifts us from shadow into light, accomplishing exactly what Wy strived for when they put together this awe-inspiring song. We’re caught between dancing and crying at the same time by the cathartic song. You can stream Wy’s debut EP, Never Was, in full on Soundcloud. Prepare for the magnificent.
