Parisian producer Androma takes us on a spiritual pilgrimage of euphoria with his new original, Jacy. World music can be so uplifting in itself already, but with the addition of deep tropical house radiance, Jacy has me flying high on cloud nine. My soul feels cleansed, hopeful, optimistic, thanks to the beauty of Jacy. Download the track for free, here.

OFFICIAL VID: The Very Best – Hear Me

November 18, 2014

I’ve always been quite fond of The Very Best, a duo based out of London formed by producer Radioclit and Malawi singer Esau Mwamwaya. In fact, I’m rather fond of African influenced music in general. There’s something so beautiful and enchanting about the melodies, the instruments, and the rhythms. The Very Best dropped a new video and song today, named Hear Me, and it’s one of the most exquisite things I’ve heard all day. Hear Me features Chris Baio of Vampire Weekend on bass. And it’s all very magical, launching me far, far away from this little office room and this decrepit desk. The Very Best will have a new album out next spring, recorded in Malawi.

OFFICIAL VID: Beirut – The Rip Tide

June 22, 2012

We begin today with an incredible band and the title track off an incredible album. The Rip Tide is as gorgeous as can be from the indie folk band Beirut, lush with all sorts of wonderful instruments (which include, of course, ever delightful horns). The lovely video befits the song with its nautical scenery. I’ve always been partial to the ocean and boats. This video and song just carries me away like these waves.

OFFICIAL VID: The Very Best – Yoshua Alikuti

April 27, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I expected not to enjoy it too much, since the video is supposed to be a play on the video for Lil Wayne’s A Milli. I wasn’t sure what that meant, so I figured the song might be something similar too. Instead, The Very Best’s Yoshua Alikuti is a wonderful world music track filled with African flavor and with amazing footage of Nairobi. I’m totally digging it and loving the chance to see the local footage. I still have Africa on the top of my must visit travel locations. Someday, someday.

OFFICIAL VID: Beirut – Vagabond

February 23, 2012

Beirut’s dreamy Vagabond now has a music video directed by Sunset Television. The outstanding song is off of the even more outstanding 2011 album The Rip Tide. There’s something so romantic about Beirut’s music… the strings, the horns… Just can’t help falling in love with it.

Here’s what Sunset Television had to say about the video:

‘Vagabond’ tells the story of a group of soldiers and sailors flirting with nurses and hard-living local girls at a dance. It was shot at the beautiful Warsaw dancehall in Greenpoint and inspired by the look of Milos Forman movies from the 60′s. There were a couple of live chickens on set who were surprisingly easy to work with and natural onscreen. They also tended to shit the moment the camera was on them. With all the smoking, drinking, and advanced pregnancy, the video will probably be banned from MTV, so we hope lots of people enjoy it on the Internet.

Bad Girls

January 30, 2012

M.I.A.’s Bad Girls has been floating around for awhile now, but now there’s an official audio release since the single drops tomorrow, January 31. A fourth album is set to be released this summer, and I would think this single will be on the cut. Lately, there’s also been a lot of buzz about a collaboration with Madonna and a possible appearance with her during the Super Bowl halftime show this weekend.

Nobel Peace Prize Concert 2011

December 13, 2011

Just stumbled upon some great video of the elegant Nobel Peace Prize Concert 2011, where several talented artists performed. I’m glad Ellie Goulding was one of those artists. She really should not be opening for Katy Perry on tour in the US… she should be headlining her own tour. Here’s her beautiful, well known cover of Your Song and a more demure, more stringy, and less electric arrangement of Starry Eyed. You go, girl!

She’s good, eh? Here’s a few more choice videos from other great, classy performers of the evening…

Hmm, yup, the older Evanescence songs are still THE best. What a beautiful performance by Ms. Amy Lee.

Did not share all available videos as that would take awhile, but at the end, it seems all the artists came back on stage and performed the following together. As you’ll see there were a lot of performers from all kinds of cultural backgrounds. Must have been a really awesome show to see live! World peace, folks… world peace.

OFFICIAL VID: Beirut – Santa Fe

beirut

Here’s the new video for Santa Fe off their latest album. The video is an homage to Zach Condon’s hometown. I always love the brass in Beirut’s music. =)
