Sun-kissed bliss and jangling surf nostalgia abound as Los Angeles (by way of Brazil) dream pop band Winter teams up with fellow Los Angeles outfit Trabants on a dreamy shimmering, warm glimmering new song named Just Stay. The stand alone single comes appropriately accompanied by enchanting vintage footage to add to its wistful charm. Samira Winter conceived Winter’s sound while in Boston. She’s now joined by Justine Brown, Chelsea Brown, and Anders LaSource as a full band. The quartet released their first full length, Supreme Blue Dream, back in 2015. Trabants is an instrumental surf band who likes to explore vintage recording techniques. The two bands seem to be a perfect fit for each other on Just Stay.

There’s less than two days left to December and 2016, but it’s still more than enough time to lose your heart to this beautiful new track Opus Orange has just offered up on Soundcloud. The Santa Monica folk band waxes tenderly melancholic on a beautifully stripped down rendition of timeless Counting Crows hit A Long December, a song I’ve loved since 1996. Opus Orange’s poignant acoustic cover is utterly appropriate for the woefully bizarre year we’ve had. It’s been a long December, but we’re about to make it to 2017. “Maybe this year will be better than the last”. Download this unexpected treat from Opus Orange’s bandcamp, here.

I’m loving this updated blast from the past that Vienna’s MÖWE offers up as a generous pre-Christmas present. The duo take us back to 2001 with their fresh rendition of Around The World, that insanely infectious ATC hit that I couldn’t help but adore back in the day. MÖWE’s Around The World features vocals by London native Lisa Pac. The original’s irresistible melody is joined by resplendent buzzing synths and rhapsodic drops. MÖWE’s crystal glimmering, snowy enchanting melodic bass is a sonorous holiday playlist must. You can download Around The World for free, here.

Winter is coming. Nuuxs, pronounced Nooks, warms us up with ‘Snowflakes’ tune where she promises to make us happy. There’s a contrast from those lyrics to the somber rifts and plenty of odes to Christmas tunes but ‘Snowflakes’ is a great winter wonderland tune that I can see Olaf grooving to.

Though this one’s not new, A Silent Film just made it available on Soundcloud again, likely timed to coincide with the current wintry time of year. Where Snowbirds Have Flown is far too pretty of a melting song from the Oxford alt rock band not to fit it in for a share this Christmas week. Its strings seem connected to my own heart, and its expansive, cinematic melancholy is ever affecting. We’re having a very stormy day here in the Bay, but despite my despise of cold climate, there’s a part of me that really wishes I could take a peaceful. cleansing walk over snow covered meadows tonight, while listening to this twinkling song. Buy this perfect Holiday lullaby on iTunes.

Drift away upon cloudy puffs of dream pop and shoegaze haze on Winter’s All The Things You Do. The Los Angeles based band recently unleashed a music video for the sweetly twinging single. If Phantogram went mega lo-fi nebulous and then fused with some Beach House, the result might sound something like this languid song, whose video is fittingly blurry and bleary. Winter is currently on a nationwide tour opening for Allison Weiss with Mal Blum and Kid In The Attic. All The Things You Do is out now on Burger Records and available on iTunes.

It may be October, but in the music world, that means all the holiday music is about to start picking up speed. I’m sure you heard about all the Sufjan Stevens holiday music stuff going on, but today, there’s a little holiday cheer from Rufus Wainwright and Sharon Van Etten, and what a gift it is. Baby It’s Cold Outside is as charming and wintery as can be when performed as a duet by these two musicians. It’s something I must remember to listen to when it really does get closer to the holidays. The song will be on a holiday standards album titled Holidays Rule off of Starbucks’ label (yea, the one that makes all those CDs you see when you go in for your expensive cup o’ joe). The tunes will be performed by the likes of fun., The Shins, Paul McCartney, The Civil Wars, Calexico,  Fruit Bats, The Head & The Heart, Andrew Bird, and many others. Indeed, holidays RULE, if for nothing else, then for the holiday music it brings to us. This is beautiful. But I’m not ready for winter yet. Not at all. Hohoho, Merry Un-Christmas!
